Title: Favourite Video Game Weapon!

Drake - June 4, 2007 01:06 PM (GMT)
whether it be a gun, sword, or magic, what stands out the most and makes you wish you could wield it? and also tell why its your favourite.

I love the big shoe from mario 3. There's nothing quite like a liesurly romp through a garden while stomping everything in your path. It's either that or Nightmare's Glam from SoulCaliber II or the Chakrams from Tales of Symphonia.

Decman - June 4, 2007 01:25 PM (GMT)
Here are a few of my favourites, in no particular order:

1. Lancer (Gears of War)...Chainsaw + assault rifle = win.

2. Flak Cannon (UT2004)...So much mess, so much fun.

3. M1 Garand (CoD, MoH, etc.)...Has the sexiest noise for clip-ejection ever. It exists too, extra kudos. BANG-BANG-PPING.

4. Energy Sword (Halo 2)...pfft, anything remotely lightsaber-y is cool.

Oh, the world of video-games. More will come to me when I have a think about it.

A few of these are going to sound cliched but:

1. Shotgun/Double-Shotgun from Doom 1/2. Not 3, it was piss-weak in 3.

2. Pistol from Halo. Great sound, power and pleasure.

3. M4A1/MP5/Desert Eagle/AK47 - Basically the key Counter-Strike weapons, depending on the situation.

Cerebral bore.

I'm still waiting for something else to top it...

I remember that! From Turok right? If I recall correctly, it sort of sounded like a wild-pig with a poker up its arse as it flew towards you.

Quake disruptor from Wipeout. Making peak-hour traffic a thing of the past. :)

Oh man, yeah. Except that you can't reload part-way through a clip, which sucks.

Another vote for the mighty Flack Cannon... wide area shotgun combined with an under barrel grenade launcher... what a great combination.

Can't wait for its UT2007 incarnation.

Machiavelli - June 5, 2007 06:39 AM (GMT)
Sephiroth's Masamune sword from Final Fantasy VII.

Quake Disruptor is an excellent call - I'd almost forgotten about that. The first time I saw it I went through a moment of stunned silence... though it was very deadly on the top speed in 2097 - you were actually capable of running into it yourself, ditto torpedoes.

Also, that Cerebral Bore whine...

That's the noise of psychologists bills, subconscious phobia's and taking ten minutes longer to fall asleep every night for the rest of your life. I spent a solid year of multiplayer screaming "God damn it, don't bore me, I'm a defenceless monkey!" in an increasing state of panic...

Resident-Seven - June 5, 2007 12:29 PM (GMT)
Fuck I love the Cerebral Bore, plants itself into your head, then sucks out the goo. I know I know, I'm broken in the head.

Cubeoid - June 5, 2007 02:05 PM (GMT)
1. Ivy's Valentine sword (Soul Calibur)

2. Flak Cannon (Unreal Tournament)

3. Double Barrel Shotgun (Doom)

4. Pistol (Halo) If this isn't back in Halo 3 someones going to get hurt

5. Gravity Gun (Turok Evolution)
I think this gravity gun derserves a special mention. It's so much fun picking up enemies and dropping them off cliffs or hitting them against other enemies or walls. Especially in such a poor game too. :P

It'd have to be the sheep launcher from Worms

Decman - June 5, 2007 02:57 PM (GMT)
 I totally forgot about Worms! The Banana-Bomb has to be my favourite weapon from the series. A mini-nuke/cluster-bomb in a banana...that's class.

Thinking back on older games it just occurred to me that we can probably just arrange a list of the best weapons in the following order:

1. Scorched Earth.

2. Everything Else.

Robert - June 6, 2007 03:21 AM (GMT)
Scorched Earth is a nice little time killer, but in today's market, it's not that fun for long. It's mostly a novelty. You can download Scorched Earth from many Vaporware sites, less than a one megabyte download. But don't pay money for this game.

I doubt anyones paid for it this decade :P

I still have a hard copy on floppy disk bought years and years ago - it's almost unplayable as it doesn't account for the speed of newer computers - hitting left rotates your current several thousand degree's :D

NismoR34 - June 6, 2007 06:55 PM (GMT)
Hmm, I'd love to have any variation of Squall's Gunblade from Final Fantasy VIII. It's just an awesome sword/gun combined weapon.

Gun wise though, my vote has to go to the Laptop Gun from Perfect Dark. Not only is it a great weapon to use to you know, shoot things with; it's also a good weapon because of its secondary function. Deploy it somewhere (on a wall or something) and when the enemy comes, it will start shooting the shit out of them.

You don't even have to be there for it to happen. Total awesomeness right there.

Notable mention goes to the various Gears of War weapons too. From the Lancer (chainsaw) to the Hammer of Dawn to the Sniper rifle and it's beautiful headshot popping goodness - the weapons in Gears are awesome.

Super Mario - June 6, 2007 10:06 PM (GMT)
Mk22 from the Metal Gear Solid series

Motleyluke - June 12, 2007 04:17 PM (GMT)
sonic wave guitar (Spongebob game)

Angra - June 12, 2007 10:00 PM (GMT)
The Land Shark gun from Armed and Dangerous. Nothing is more entertaining than watching a giant shark eat your enemies.

BrotherEstapol - June 13, 2007 11:43 AM (GMT)
Laptop Gun - Perfect Dark
Dual Magnums - Halo 2 (before they nerfed em)
Railgun - Quake 3

As for real-world weapons that have been in games...well that's a hard one.
As an all-rounder, I'd have to go for a G36 of some sort.
Those Germans can sure make assault rifles!

Robert - June 14, 2007 04:38 AM (GMT)
Oh man I forgot about the laptop gun, another reason why Rare are a bunch of genius's.
