A spokesperson from Sony has confirmed that there is indeed a 80GB PS3. It will be the only version availabe at the South Korean launch on June 16, Sony will not be selling the 20GB (now discontinued) and the 60GB PS3's in Korea. The bad news is that the 80GB PS3 will not be available in PAL territores.
Why its not getting released outside of Korea is a mystery. Maybe its cos Sony see Korean gamers as hardcore therefore needing the 'best' only. I mean, these guys are truly hardcore, they literally die during exhaustive gaming sessions! Maybe if more Aussie gamers died during hardcore marathon gaming sessions we might see it on our shores? :P Get cracking!
Who cares anyway, a few people have already pointed out to PS3 gamers the fact that the PS3 supports external HDD plugged into its USB ports.

Yeah well its still news eh? Thats why I posted it. :P I really do think its pretty useless. Maybe if it didn't support external HDDs then it would pass as an ok excuse to make this vesion but not in this case.
