Title: Poll of the Week
Machiavelli - May 14, 2007 05:22 AM (GMT)
Have you ever taken frustration out on your controller whilst gaming?
Thankfully I haven't as yet but boy have I come close. Usually profanity and just laughing help me get rid of the occasional frustration. If these outlets didn't work I'd probably go on a baby punching rampage. :P
StueyRowls - May 14, 2007 06:07 AM (GMT)
I have never thrown a controller, but I have dropped a couple by accident over the years. Never broken a controller though.
And like you Mach I tend to release my frustrations with profanities :P
borgster101 - May 14, 2007 06:11 AM (GMT)
No I've never taken out frustration on the controller. Though I did drop the Wiiremote a few times, but that was only because it was required in a microgame in WarioWare :P
Be sure to have your wrist strap on when playing that game!

I have thrown them in anger or frustration. Especially when its not my fault the game sucks or is badly made. I don't do it all the time, its rare. I usually curse a lot. And when I say throw I only mean like intentionaly dropping it hard on the floor beneath me, not slinging it across the room. :P I also hit the pad on the coffee table.
_MetalliX_ - May 14, 2007 06:50 AM (GMT)
I have never really been frustrated with my console ever that I can think of. My PC on the other hand, the number of times it froze at the most inopportune moment I almost put my fist through the monitor more than once.
FreakTrigger - May 14, 2007 07:04 AM (GMT)
When i was younger I used to come home from school to find that my brother had smashed a master system or atari controller right up the hallway, but I've always been pretty good for it myself :)
Quatters - May 14, 2007 07:09 AM (GMT)
Nope. When I get really frustrated I'll swear and punch walls, but I won't risk breaking m controller!
/backslash - May 14, 2007 08:00 AM (GMT)
I voted for 'Yes, in anger out of frustration' but that was throwing them on the ground with NES/Snes pads. I don't actually hurl them through the window or into someone's face unlike a couple of my friends. I haven't thrown anything since I purchased the Psone but those couple of incidents will remain forever

Yeah I hate violent gamers, bad losers always blaming poor sportsmanship or bad cheating AI, and loud mouths when playing with or watching someone play. Very annoying, I just wanna hurl the pad in their face and call them a loser.

I honestly have ruined so many things when I'm angry with video games. I want to slam my controller but now I throw a water bottle or break a pencil....or 10 pencils. Back in the old school gaming days when controllers had a wire, I would swing it around like a medieval flail.
Stevorooni - May 14, 2007 11:07 AM (GMT)
Yeah I have in anger.
I don't want to break the damn things though so I usually throw them low to the ground to lessen the impact or aim for somewhere soft like the couch! :P

Sort of like a 'skipping stone controller'?
"Wow, it bounced 9 times! I sure teached that controller a lesson he won't soon forget!"
BrotherEstapol - May 14, 2007 12:17 PM (GMT)
Worst I've had is hitting a table, and hitting a wall with a Wiimote while it was still in my hand.
Bout half the force went to my hand mind you...
Resident-Seven - May 14, 2007 01:03 PM (GMT)
I haven't thrown one in years thank god, only things like MegaDrive and SNES, they were a lot sturdier, I wouldn't be game to throw a 360 or Wii controller though.
I vent with profanities too, when a game really gets under my skin, fuck is every second word.
NismoR34 - May 14, 2007 04:16 PM (GMT)
When I was younger I remember throwing my N64 controllers a few times out of sheer frustration. There was probably only like 3 occasions where it happened but nevertheless it happened and it was because I got so pissed off with whatever game I was playing that I couldn't control myself. These days I don't throw my controllers at all but I still get mightily pissed off with games. Especially when playing online multiplayer - goddamn some annoying shit happens in Halo or Gears or whatever. Civ and I always end up going off into each other's ear at least once (read: 10 times or more) every night. ;)
I have accidentally dropped controllers though, due to either being tangled in their cords or because I knocked my hand while holding them or whatever. Oh and if I do want to throw my controller when really annoyed these days I'll throw it hard down on to my bed which is thankfully a soft landing. It's mostly swearing though for me.
Decman - May 14, 2007 08:07 PM (GMT)
Out of anger. ph43r m3. :P
Erm, actually, I've thrown the Wiimote around a bit (trust me, after Raving Rabbids, you'd do exactly the same) but not through a window or anything, just at the soft, cushiony bliss of my duvet.
I think I flung a PS2 controller across my room before...probably after Stuntman or FFX! Meh, they've got a protective casing for a reason.
Qubert - May 15, 2007 05:29 AM (GMT)
I don't get angry to the point where I break things, I'll walk away before that. If I'm mad at a game I'll mutter exclamations ("****ing retarded" comes up a lot) at the game and come up with all sorts of faults in the game that are responsible for my getting stuck.

TV remotes, regularly. I'm a sucker for getting angry at sports.
D43M0N - May 16, 2007 06:27 AM (GMT)
I'm angry. It's the main reason why I don't have a wireless mouse.
Nags - May 24, 2007 06:54 PM (GMT)
I have yet to throw a controller, but i can swing them around in rage sometimes.
Andy - May 25, 2007 03:29 AM (GMT)
I did once... playing Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness. I then wept openly. That "game" was terrible.
Seriously, though. I've dropped them accidentally a couple times.
