Title: Final Fantasy IV DS remake!

The Magic BoxRelease date: TBA
I'm quite excited about this as I was considering purchasing the GBA version. I think it's a great decision to revise IV as it stands as one of the best in the series, surpassing FF3's lacklustre storyline (from what I've been reading)
And with the recent remake of FF3 on the DS, it's safe to assume they're using the same graphics engine judging by the screenshots (with possible tweaking for added performance). Hopefully this will speed up the production and we'll get a local release sometime next year
A remake of V & VI seems inevitable..

Cool, I just got FFIII and I've been enjoying it so far, I'd rather get this DS remake than the GBA game :D
NismoR34 - May 12, 2007 07:48 PM (GMT)
NICE!
I'll hit that for sure. I've got to hit III first though...

Ugh, the graphics are terrible. Why couldn't this have been on a console? With graphics up to par or better than FFXIIII? It would have been so epic. Oh well. I have a feeling this delays my dream even further, but I can keep dreaming.

It's a friggin DS, geez! Don't be so harsh to judge everything "Oh, it doesn't have realistic anti-aliasing high definition graphics, this game must be crap"
And graphics up to par better than FFXIIII?! (FF14) Keep dreaming :P
borgster101 - May 14, 2007 12:01 PM (GMT)
Get used it Robert, the next major Dragon Quest game is on DS! :P

Wouldn't that be FFXIV?
Robert - May 14, 2007 03:06 PM (GMT)
I meant XIII! If you're going to remake such a classic game why do it on the ds?
NismoR34 - May 14, 2007 04:21 PM (GMT)
Because it's the biggest selling platform around the world at the moment and therefore could potentially see more sales.
Robert - May 14, 2007 04:51 PM (GMT)
I suppose I understand. On the DS: cheap to make, sells more. On the console: expensive to make, sells less. But it's FFIV damn it, it deserves the best there is, not handheld!
Anyone here have there first FF experience (III) on the DS? Because my friend did and boy do I feel sorry for him. He's missed out on sooo much.
borgster101 - May 14, 2007 11:17 PM (GMT)
Actually I have, FFIII is the first FF game I have played :P
Though I have played many other RPGs, and this just feels like a typical RPG ;)

I'd almost be more inclined to say that the typical RPG feels more like Final Fantasy, than Final Fantasy feels like a typical RPG :D

It's not the graphics that bother me, its...Cecil's armor.
I loved the character design back when this game came out, but the new Cecil just doesn't look at cool to me. I think it has something to do with how tight fitting his armor is. I still have high hopes for paladin Cecil.
A minor complaint though, I still think this game will be great and will buy it first day.

Whilst he may look like Superman in tights with spikes you can't deny the charm. Plus it's impossible to make a character look realistic apart from FMVs on the DS so chibi armour is go!
I just bought FF3 DS today for less than $50 :D God bless that huge big W. I'm liking it so far, but I really should finish FF6 first before I get suckered in. Unfortunately the audio's taken a huge hit on the crappy DS Lite speakers, I hate wearing headphones/earphones so I don't really have an option but to endure it
Random Hero - May 31, 2007 12:56 PM (GMT)
It looks like Cecil is wearing a lycra catsuit :P
borgster101 - May 31, 2007 11:19 PM (GMT)
It sounds so much better with headphones though!

Everything does on the DS - I use mine as a commuter each day, so on the odd occasion that I play without I have a shocked moment of:
"What the hell... THAT is what my DS sounds like?! Eeeurgh!"

The lite's max volume is like when you turn the original DS' volume 3/4's the way :(
sarunas007 - July 24, 2007 07:16 PM (GMT)
FF is one of the best selling series of games, and ofcourse everyone loves them !!!
I need to get stuck in into the new FF :)

Will 5 or 6 get a DS release? If all is well, SquareEnix should milk the remakes out of their cash cow more. *fingers crossed*
Asguarde - August 5, 2007 09:24 PM (GMT)
This is going to be the fourth time that this game has been released. You're going to be playing the same damn game with some tweaked graphics, and maybe an extra dungeon.
What Square Enix needs to do is to stop re-making all of their old good games and put more stock in making their new games better.

Considering a lot of people regard FFXII as the best Final Fantasy in a long time, I don't think SquareEnix have anything to worry about with regards to their new and upcoming games.
Plus, while remakes could be considering milking a franchise too much, it's a good opportunity for those of us (read: me) who haven't played the older games to finally do so.
Asguarde - August 8, 2007 11:35 AM (GMT)
As far as I'm concerned, Final Fantasy IV, which came out for the Gameboy Advance not too long ago, can give you a proper chance to play the classics.
/backslash - August 8, 2007 12:42 PM (GMT)
True but there's some people like me who love remakes on games I've never played. It just makes them more appealing to the younger audience too.
Maybe if I actually played these games when they first came out I wouldn't want remakes. The point is, old games tend to age badly
NismoR34 - August 8, 2007 05:42 PM (GMT)
The GBA version of it is a good point you make Asguarde and I did originally intend to get that (along with the others that were released on the GBA) but now that this announcement has been made, I'm more inclined to get the DS version instead. Either way, I don't care too much about which version I get as long as I get to (finally) experience the older game/s.
Drake - August 11, 2007 12:21 PM (GMT)
The GBA game was given a kiddie translation what about this one? Though the PSX was finally given it's proper translation in which anything goes, the GBA games were heavily censored, I am curious are we going to get the kiddie translation?

Considering the art style and considering the fact it's for Nintendo (I mean, come on), it seems highly likely that it will be rated Everyone.

You can now pre-order
Final Fantasy IV DS on Play-Asia for US$44.90 - releases in July. I'm curious as to how much america will charge. Anyway its fantastic news and I'll be looking forward to it :D Never got around to finishing FF3 though, got a tad boring after a while and it came to a point where I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing because I hadn't played it for so long
Qubert - April 23, 2008 03:18 AM (GMT)
Cool, can't wait for this.
Possible US Box art

8.0 Presentation The dual screen presentation is stronger this time around, complete with amazing CG, more attention to keeping both screens active, and better 2D/3D styles overall. 9.5 Graphics It was amazing in FF3, and it’s still amazing now. Hands-down some of the best 3D on DS, and easily some of the strongest art, character, and world designs. 9.0 Sound Right on par with the last DS remake, this time throwing in more voiceover work. The music from IV isn’t quite as memorable as other Final Fantasy games, but it’s still inspired. 8.5 Gameplay The auto-battle system, added Whyt summon, augment system, and mini-map rewards make this a stronger experience overall. Active battles can be tough, but that’s what it’s all about. 9.0 Lasting Appeal Between the added wireless Whyt gameplay, main quest, movie and music player, and new carry-over “plus quest” you’ll have plenty to do. It’s big. 8.7 Overall |
Its weird how im going to pay the same price for this game as i will for Crisis Core.
