Title: Gaming Showdown, Week 8:

One of our members (DZ's second choice) asked for this week's showdown. If anyone else has a showdown request which hasn't been done, please feel free to drop the staff a PM anytime. :)

After a somewhat disappointing sequel, Jak 3 wound up being an epic finale to a wonderful series on the PlayStation 2. Great story, unbelievable pacing, never a dull moment. They say the third time is a charm, couldn't put it a better way really.

Never played any of the games so I just voted for 2 :P

I think I have to agree with Mach when it comes to Jak 3 being the best in the series. Pretty much for the same reason as him too, the game not only improved on Jak II's aspects for a better game but it ended the trilogy in an awesome way.

I love all three games though, for different reasons. I really enjoyed the first due to it just being a general fun platformer that in a way reminds me of games such as Banjo Kazooie and so on, not to mention it begun the humour 'run' that is the little Ottsel that could.

Then Jak II brought a different direction to the game that still ended up being enjoyable, but I enjoyed it mostly because it was a challenge (complete opposite to the first) and in a way still fail to see how people could dislike the game.

And then of course as mentioned above, Jak 3 came and ended the trilogy while also being essentially the ultimate game in the Jak series. It was challenging, yet not overly so like its predecessor was. It looked fantastic, it continued the story and ended it quite wonderfully and yeah, it was just a fantastic game.

Wonder if Naughty Dog will repeat the process and make a fantastic trilogy in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune?

Being Naughty Dog, I dare say they will do it with ease. :D

I really liked the first one. I played through the second one with a friend and we just got really bored. The third one was definitely an improvement, but I love the simple fun of the first one.

Also: pretty colors. That is all.

I agree, the Jak games had really colourful worlds that were really thrilling to explore. I loved the whole atmosphere in Jak&Daxter, the lush jungles and the music and sounds were really good quality and contributed very well to the world, again nice work by the guys at Mutato Muzika.
I loved all the games, the original is still the most special though because I remember being introduced to this whole new world created by the devs I admired (ND) and the graphics were so rich for the time, I was very impressed. But I voted for Jak3 just for the sheer size of the world (and how they managed to improve the graphics!!) and the awesome story and new characters, plus Jak talks unlike his mute self in the original which was disapointing (although Daxter more than made up for that!).
Jak2 was okay but probably my least fave cos it was dull and frustrating in some areas. I still recommend it though. Every PS2 owner should own this classic series.

Jak 2 is a great game, but a little lackluster when compared to Jak III.
