I heard about this on Eurogamer and went over to Latino Rview to read the treatment. Its still unsure whether this is the real deal though. I'll paste the first paragraphs here but you should head over to the site and read the whole thing unless you don't wanna spoil it. So here it is, written by Stu Beattie...

SPOLIER WARNING!

Planet Sera. The Battle of Aspho Fields. The last battle of the Pendulum Wars.

We meet Sergeant MARCUS FENIX and Corporal DOM SANTIAGO riding pensively in the back of a Raven, one of hundreds ferrying in gears to assault the enemy headquarters. The Coalition of Ordered Governments could have simply burned the fortress to the ground with their orbital satellites, but a body count is needed for the big final COG victory and satburns have a way of disintegrating human flesh...

...this weighs on Dom's mind as enemy missiles start pounding the Ravens.

Several choppers go down in flames. Marcus keeps his eyes and his squad on the target. The Ravens touch down and the gears pile out into an insane hail of rocket and gunfire. Most Ravens never even back it back up. This is madness. Bodies are ripped apart. Wounded soldiers scream for their mothers. A grenade annihilates an embedded media crew. Nobody knows where he or she's supposed to be.

Interesting, IMDB have it slated for a 2009 release so I don't think we can expect it any time soon.

Also from that article turns out there is a Splinter Cell movie in the works also, which is slated for a 2010 release.

I guess its true, the game industry has finally overtaken the film industry.

It was bound to happen, what with games generating more money than huge blockbuster movies. It's awesome, hopefully we'll get bigger budget games soon.

It took over the film industry back when the PS2 was released! I remember an interview with Sony execs in an early OAPS2M issue that had a comparison with budget and revenue from the industries and PlayStation beat the crap out of films like Matrix! :P We're just even stronger this gen!

I don't mean financially wise, I was aware that the gaming industry had made more money for a while now, but when a movie ticket costs $10 and a video game costs $100 that is to be expected.

I meant the influence of gaming on society has finally overtaken the film industry, once the story went that popular movies would be turned into half-arsed games. But now its the other way around, hopefully without the 'half-arsed' part.

I'd say there are still a lot more movies being made into games, than games into movies.

How much is the games industry exactly, the film one is worth more than $9b in America alone. And how many games have made more than $400m, any?

You can't really consider them games, they are as much a marketing tool for the movie as a poster or an action figure.

Exactly, most movies now have a game to go with them, how many games come out with a movie to help advertise it? The movie industry is obviously influences the games industry more than the other way around.

The movie industry just has too much money to spend, thats all. And there are heaps of cool movies out there that never had a game. But of course we will be seeing more movies into games becos big companies like Sony own the licences to the big budget films like Spiey and 007.

They are not gonna make this movie.. the estimated cost was 250 mil.... the studio gave it a budget of 100 mil.. so its on hold, plus there is not much of a market for video game movies.. look at Halo nobody wants it even though it could potentially be a huge money maker. Too much risk.

Well I reckon if done right the GoW movie could be quite good, even if a little cheesy because of the locust "creatures" and people might compare them to Aliens, which was the case with Doom.

Splinter Cell could also be good but it needs the right actor. I know people have thrown George Cluney as a good choice, but I hate him so no. :P

Not Clooney, someone undiscovered but not too old. :P And God of War will be getting a movie too I heard, but that might be just as voilent as 300... but with topless women with grapes and stuffed goats.

Every guy hates him... because we all want to be him. :P

I gotta go with Jason Statham. He kinda resembles Fisher and is an excellent action movie star.

Topless women like the ones in 300?

EDIT: Ew, I don't want to be Clooney. I agree that Statham would be a better choice, he's way hotter. :P

GoW was movie material since it was released. I remember reading something along those lines back in January or something. And yes, Splinter Cell is planned. Don't you peeps remember the teaser trailer on the Chaos Theory disc? :o

I started a topic on game-movie conversions in Console Central a while back now. It's probably on page 5 or somthing.n

Whereas movies with little or no plot structure turn out balls (DoA), movies like Splinter Cell, GoW and Halo will probably be sheer class. :)

My idea for the Gears of War movie is that, with the strange disappearance of just about every single woman on the planet, Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago finally give in to their latent homosexuality and join in a civil union with one another. Then, they adopt the Berserker as their only daughter. What do you guys think?
