Title: Are there to many WWII games?
Qubert - April 19, 2007 10:24 AM (GMT)
There's too many WWII FPS's out there. If they'd expand upon the genre a bit like Company of Heroes, where strategy offers the same excitement as "running and gunning", then the timeline still has enough room for more games. Where's the love for the WWI games? How about the American Revolution? The Crusades?
How about a WWII game told from the other side. Allow a player to be the bad guy. That would go over well. ;)

It's strange, you barely ever hear about WWI games, I guess it's because they had weaponry that lacks coolness. Not that wars are cool of course... >_>

There's probably games already like that, just not in our country :P *looks at Germans*
I want to see a war game involving caveman and dinosaurs, surely they would've had a war between eachother like "Hey dino-breath, quit hogging my cave"

 How do you come up with that crap, I love it. Wright another comic damn it! :P
I'm sick to death of WWII games but most of them are still fantastic games and I end up loving them anyway. WWI would be schmick, mustard gas FTW!

I don't think World War One offers a great deal of interesting gameplay guys, even from a strategy side of things, it would be pretty boring. There were no great naval battles, infantry just got sent over the top to get slaughtered and aeroplanes had only just been introduced but only to shoot down other aeroplanes
The collossal scale of World War II however naturally lends itself to many different types of gameplay settings and styles, which is fair enough I guess.

World War one.
Tiny ammo clips.
Constant reloading.
Inaccurate guns.
Nuff said. It would be no fun.

I was thinking about a WWI game the other day. Ninja's right: it would be limiting. The whole 'over-the-top' thing would get rid of any strategy, but you know, gun innaccuracy would do no harm. Most games help you to be laser-point precise, but the fact is, if someone fired an automatic shotgun like CJ does in San Andreas, you'd end up with a bloody stump for a shoulder.
If the whole game was based on the Battle of the Somme, well then, that could be interesting. Imagine the atmosphere. Mmm.
I was thinking about a Battlefield game the other day that could feature battles from all walks of history. I think that'd be awesome: imagine Agincourt, D-Day, the American Revolution, the Irish 1916 rising, and perhaps some future 2020-esque conflicts all in one game :D. Each player would have to adopt new strategies constantly. One minute he's a longbowman, the next a machinegunner and then a mech-engineer.
Industry, I'm coming! :P

This topic comes as Call of Duty 4 is announced to be subtitled "Modern Warfare".
WW2 is coming to a close, i think.

We obviously have a greater influence on the gaming industry than we thought :P

Of course Infinity Ward just read this thread and decided "ZOMG! All the gamers are getting bored of WWII!, If BF2 can do it, so can we :)"

Of course! Is there any other explanation? :P

Cool! But my guess is that CoD4 will be in a) some fictional Arabic state or b) some fictional ex-Soviet state or c) will actually be WWII again, but just with prototype weaponry. :P

Call Of Duty series turned into some sort of "Battlefield 2 franchise"? Judging by the trailer, its gonna be more cooler then the Battlefield 2 series, IMO.
