Title: Red vs Blue Discussion Thread
Description: Funniest Online Sitcom?

Film Guru - May 12, 2004 05:07 AM (GMT)
Well, I'm kind of assuming those of you that have never seen even a snippet of Red vs Blue are in the minority. If you are one of those people, here's a run down of what it is.

Red vs Blue is an online series using the filming technique known as "Machinima". In other words, the entire show takes place inside the game we all know as Halo. Hard to explain unless you've seen it, but trust me, if you haven't, see it now! Catch is, you gotta watch from the start, or it won't make much sense, but all the downloading and viewing times are more than worth it.

They are currently up to Episode 33: An Audience Of Dumb, and this time they've out done themselves. Not only is it hilarious, but now it probably puts the show in the same league as well respect sci-fi shows on TV, let alone online series. Amazingly enough, they've done an incredible job of creating their own totally original storyline into the game engine. The story is compelling (and super-complex), without undermining the humour! A hard task to be sure.

After seeing "An Audience Of Dumb", I thought this was worthy of it's own discussion thread. Red vs Blue fans unite! :D

Fuck yeh, this show rocks. :) It's comic genius I reckons :P

And it's free :o

josh - May 12, 2004 09:08 AM (GMT)
Hahah I didn't find out about it until like two weeks ago, and i've only seen the first few eps, so I've gotta wait for the archives to loop back around 'til then to catch up hahah... well i guess it's my fault....

Or I could just buy the DVD.

BrotherEstapol - May 12, 2004 09:16 AM (GMT)
I started watching this around Ep15 and damn it's funny! :P

If you haven't seen it before, do yourself a favour and download them NOW!!

You don't even have to be a Halo fan to enjoy it either. :D

I'll second that Estapol, no fan of Halo here, but love Red v Blue. I'm just ashamed that I only got the first few eps before I came down, now I have to wait for them to loop around when I get back home so I can save them all.

/backslash - May 12, 2004 01:29 PM (GMT)
i've got all 33 episodes sitting on my hdd
this series is easily the best series in terms of online
i don't think there is even another sitcom that comes as close as this in terms of 'actual video footage'

just wait till Halo 2 comes out... :D

They'll be able to do so much more :D

At the moment, the series is great, I've got most of them on the HD, bar the last few. Very funny stuff.

James Thrawn - May 13, 2004 02:04 AM (GMT)
I've got all of them except one of the Public Service Announcments. They're alll great.

"I would've called it a walrus" "Dammit Griff I told you to stop making up animals!"

Manny M - May 13, 2004 02:25 AM (GMT)
I started watching Red vs. Blue when it first came out, but stopped when they went into their second season, primarily because I had just forgotten about them, now it's "too late" to get back into it all.

Almighty Beanchild - May 13, 2004 03:59 AM (GMT)
"Sarge, you dug your way out? I tied you up and poured concrete over the grave. Yknow...in case you turned into a zombie."
"Yeah, but you made one fatal mistake. You left me my spoon. That dirt was like a rich butterscotch brownie to me."

"Come in reds, come in reds"
"What in buttery goodness...who is this?"

"Sarge, I'd start running. Now"
"Ahhhhhhhh fudgepops."

"Quiet Griff, or I'll have Simmonds cut your throat while your sleeping"
"Oh, I'd do it to."
"I know you would Simmonds...good man."

Sarge is by far one of the two best characters in RvB.

Caboose is the other one, and Tuckers pretty good too.

"Are you sure she's a girl and not a guy? Or like half guy...half shark?"

"I knew she was a girl. She didn't like me. Girls...never....like me."
"Caboose, I don't think anyone likes you?"
"I like me. :("

So yeah....random quotage rocks! Please forgive any errors.
And yeah, this show is fantastic :P

Film Guru - May 13, 2004 05:11 AM (GMT)
Yeah, it's full of awesome moments. Two of my favourites are these (one of them being in the latest episode):

"I'm a pacifist."
"You're a thing that babies suck on?"
"No dude, that's a pedophile."
"Tucker, I think he means a pacifier..."
"Oh yeah...right...man, I was totally thinking about something else..."

"C'mon dude, seriously, have paid attention to our enemies for one second?"
"I beg your pardon?"
"First of all, that guy isn't yellow, he's orange. And since when is there a girl on the red team?!"
"My favourite thing is pretty dresses..."
"ARG! I got termites in me leg!"
"That is NOT a Southern accent!"
"ARG!"
"Do you have any tampons?"

HA HA!! Classic stuff! :D

Chrisł - May 13, 2004 06:11 AM (GMT)
Red vs Blue is definitely the greatest thing on the net at the moment, and beats anything on TV as well.

Sarge and Caboose are easily my favourite two characters. And Lopez has had some pretty good moments too. "I am Lopez, the heavy"

Indeed, the latest episode (33) is the best they've done so far! Although, honourable mention should go to the total insanity of episode 28.5.

Doc: "I'd just like to let everyone know - that Tucker and i love eachother very much! And we're getting married!!"
Lopez: "No Tucker! You promised your love to me!"
Everyone: "AHHHHHHHAHHHHHHHAHHHH"

Oh yes! You gotta award Episode 28.5 as pure genious due to it's insane randomness. Technically that's a PSA though. :P

And hey! You can't compare a brilliant 5-minutes-per-episode online series to one-hour-per-episode TV series. :P

MrRae - May 13, 2004 07:57 AM (GMT)
Yes you can. Of course you can. :P

Ghazrat - May 13, 2004 09:13 AM (GMT)
I think it was just done Guru. :P

Ah crap. :P

thebigm - May 14, 2004 09:57 AM (GMT)
I gotta start watching them, having all of them on my hdd and all, maybe I should wait till after exams though.

BrotherEstapol - May 14, 2004 02:14 PM (GMT)
My favouriote episode is number 10. ;)

Here's the some classic parts from it.

*SPOLIER WARNING*

QUOTE
Tucker: "We need men!"

Blue Command: "Dude. How long have you guys been down there?"

QUOTE
Tucker: "Freelancers aren't Red or Blue, the're just guns for hire who will fight you whoever has the most money."

Caboose: "Like a Mercenry!"

Tucker: "Right, or like your Mum, when the rents due."

QUOTE
Church: "...the guys were hangin around waiting for some action, bitching about the cold..."

*in the background*

Guy 1: "Maaan, it's fucking cold..."

Guy 2: "I hope we get some action..."

QUOTE
"...he was half-way arcoss the base he just started screaming bloody murder..."

Guy: "BLOODY MURDER! BLOODY MURDER!"
QUOTE
Church: "Jimmy was the last one to go...Tex went right up to him, pulled his skull right out of his head an beat him to death with it..."

Tucker: "Wait a second...how do you beat someone to death with their own skull, that doesn't seem phisically posible."

Church: "That's exactally what Jimming kept screaming!!"

Jimmy: "THIS DOESN'T SEEM PHISICALLY POSSIBLE!?!?"

Best. Episode. EVER! :D

Episode 33 is fantastic.

'Arrrgh! I have termites in me leg!'

'That is not a Southern accent!'

That has got to be one of the greatest quotes from the series.

My two favourite lines are from the PSA's:

*SPOILERS*

QUOTE
*gunfire*
Simmons: I need to leave, I need to go to a conference back on Earth.
Yellow Guy: In case you haven't noticed, we're in the middle of a war here.
Simmons: Its the Microsoft PDC conference, they only hold these things once every couple of years.
Yellow Guy: Donut, cease fire, we need to get Simmons out of here.
Donut: You think the Blues are going to stop fighting because Microsoft says so?
*gunfire from Blues stops*
Blue Guy 1: What was that?
Blue Guy 2: I think they said something about Microsoft...

QUOTE
*The word Bungie appears from a "projector" on Sarge's shoulder*
Guy 1: Bungle...
Guy 2: Thats an "i" you idiot!
Guy 1: Oh, right... Bingle
Guy 2: BUNGIE!

But some of the jokes are just rip-offs of the Simpsons...

fishonthecarpet - May 15, 2004 10:28 AM (GMT)
I used to love it...
but my love decreased around eps 28 (i think) when I reckoned it got a little... crap.
But when I have some time, i'll dl the new eps and catch up.

BrotherEstapol - May 15, 2004 10:58 AM (GMT)
Yeah, some the more recent ones(up till 33) have been pretty poor...but the 33 and the latest PSA are excent.

fishonthecarpet - May 16, 2004 03:14 AM (GMT)
Hmmm....
*downloads*

Woody - May 18, 2004 03:53 AM (GMT)
Make sure you've seen PSA #4, then go download this.

Authentic Sarge Office Assistant

Classic. :D

Looks like the RvB boys took a week off cause of E3. Bummer, cause I want the next episode now! The last one ended on such an awesome note. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!! :P

MrRae - May 18, 2004 05:55 AM (GMT)
Aye, me too FG, and I guess the rest of the world too :P

That's always the problem with catching in a series like this, I downloaded all the first 20 or so in a few days and watched them all then, and now I have to wait like a week per episode, it's painful :P

But hey, it's free

Film Guru - May 31, 2004 03:35 AM (GMT)
Well, the latest episode is out now, Episode 34: Aftermath, Before Biology.

It's a pretty funny episode (as usual), and clearly wasn't trying to match up to last episode's awesome climax. This episode is comfortably settling back into the usual comedic antics of Red vs Blue. We get to understand more of Doc's character, who is now very, very funny, and both sides get their amount of laughs.

"Time for some yoga!"

Shadow Knight - May 31, 2004 04:06 AM (GMT)
I can't find some episodes, help please. :D

All of season one, i guess.

MrRae - May 31, 2004 04:49 AM (GMT)
Just watch the redvsblue site as they do a rotate through all of season one on tuesdays (well wednesday for us). They put up 3 episodes and one public service announcement per tuesday :)

Film Guru - May 31, 2004 05:41 AM (GMT)
Yeah, Season 1 is a little tricky to get a hold of. Try downloading it off a program called Limewire if you can. You really do need to watch from the start if you can. :)

Shadow Knight - June 3, 2004 09:01 AM (GMT)
Alright, i downloaded and watched all of season one and the first 5 PSAs and it is the best thing on the web. :D *downloads Season 2*

Pauly - June 3, 2004 09:26 AM (GMT)
I've downloaded them all. I reckon they're hilarious although the lastest episode (34 Aftermath, Before Biology) was IMO stupid. But I see it more as a filler than trying to be funny.

Anyway I reckon Sarge is hilarious but the best character is without a doubt Caboose. I wanna buy a Caboose shirt :P

Comrade Natrak - June 3, 2004 10:02 AM (GMT)
Yeah 34 wasn't anything special, the Bovine anatomy chart was funny, that's really about it.

quartz_donkey - June 3, 2004 02:23 PM (GMT)
red vs blue season 1 Go nuts might not work for you but try and let me know.

Comrade Natrak - June 9, 2004 06:12 AM (GMT)
Now this is more like it! Episode 35 is great!

Donut: Ow! I think I broke something!...Symonds, I think I need your ovaries!

Symonds: I hate this army.

Pauly - June 9, 2004 11:29 AM (GMT)
Not a bad episode. I just hope Caboose doesn't change too much now that he's cured.

Comrade Natrak - June 9, 2004 12:51 PM (GMT)
Well it wasn't the AI that was causing him to be stupid, the AI just made him threaten people and make aggressive comments etc. So Caboose will be the same, just without the deep voice stuff :)

Film Guru - June 10, 2004 01:45 AM (GMT)
Good episode! Not much happened plot-wise, but the comedy more than made up for it. However, I did like the Lopez issue that has come up. I just wanna see some alien vehicle action dammit! :P
