Title: What's your fear?
Robert - April 16, 2007 12:28 PM (GMT)
Have you got a fear? I'm not a fan of dental procedures, I literally run from spiders and of course... growing old and eventually death.
_MetalliX_ - April 16, 2007 12:38 PM (GMT)
I'm not a fan of the beach. I'm not scared of it but basically I've just about died a few times so. Also not a fan of deep water. But I'm not scared of it, I mean I went out past the heads on a rubber dingy just last week, but if you told me to get in the water it wouldn't happen.
That's about it really, not afraid of bugs or anything like that, I use to keep spiders in a GameBoy game case after I caught them. I see snakes all the time and have never so much as flinched. I even slid out with a mate at 100km/h backwards on the wrong side of the road and was smiling.
I think I've been desensitized by gaming.

Let's see...
- Death
- Oldness
- Sleeping in case I die
- Certain Spiders
- Being in a speeding car.

So playing games like Resident Evil removes your fear of giant snakes, spiders and zombies? :P
- I've got a fear of heights, pretty sure that was passed down from my mum but I can handle heigher places better (ex. she gets scared crossing those overhead highway pedestrian bridges).
- I've also got a fear of going upstairs without anything to grip onto, especially when I'm carrying something at the same time. The worst moments was my previous job where I had to carry registers upstairs on single slated steps (so there's a chance of getting my foot caught underneath and landing head first). Walking downstairs without rails I have no problem
- Not particularly fond of swimming. I hate swimming at depths taller than myself. I actually drowned in a pool once when I was about 5 and if my aunty didn't save me I would've died

I think its more along the lines of, "Looks like I'm about to die, its a good thing I can just go back to my last checkpoint."

Zoidberg: Mmm, delicious! Just like stale marshmallows! [The cherry appears in front of him.] Ooh, and a cherry!
[He eats it and carries on running, chasing Fry.]
Fry: Hey, watch out!
[Zoidberg eats him.]
Zoidberg: Uh-oh!
Leela: Oh, my God! He ate Fry! Fry is dead!
[Fry slides up behind them.]
Fry: It's OK. I had another guy!
[Everyone cheers.]

Actually, I've had that sort of thing after I played a bit of WoW. There's one class (hunters) who can see all nearby beasts as yellow dots on the minimap, and I'd been playing a fair bit of this class. Anyway, I saw a TV report about the coastguard searching for a shark that had gotten close to shore, and I thought "just use Track Beasts, you nubs!"

My biggest fear is rejection. If I get rejected, I simply can't handle it. I'm not talking about stuff like getting turned down for trying to buy a porn mag under-age: I mean emotional things.
I've got the usual stuff too. I can't stand going into water that's out of my depth, which is a real shame because I love swimming. That all stems back to near-death accidents when I was kid. I am petrified of slugs too. I have no idea why, but they just seriously weird me out. I have to take a detour around them. :P Large heights are a probelm also. I was like jelly on top of the Eiffel Tower, and if I'm leaning over a balcony or out of a window that's more than two stories high, I get the urge to throw myself over/out. Beats me!

Have a hug.
I'm not so much scared of spiders, I just don't like them, and if I see one it'll be dead pretty soon afterwards.
I'm not good with heights, but then I've been on the Space Probe (yes it's a ride, you dirty people) at Wonderland.
Stevorooni - April 16, 2007 11:03 PM (GMT)
I'm ok with heights as long as there's some sort of barrier between me and the large drop. So I'm fine on the top of buildings or the upper floors of the shopping complex because there's a fence. You just wouldn't catch me on the edge of a cliff or scaling a mountain.
Spiders freak me out if they just run out in front of me suddenly, but if they're up on a wall I have no beef. At work there's a few daddy long legs spiders around the place. They get rid of the flies. I call the big one Bitey.
Although I hate roaches and millipedes. I sometimes get them in my house (and the roaches are BIG ones) so I've got baits out everywhere which takes care of 95% of them
FreakTrigger - April 16, 2007 11:08 PM (GMT)
Cicada's.
I swear to god, I hate those blowflys of Satan.
Their discarded shells are awesome, but their glinty metallic spastic flight pattern freaks me out to no end.

Haha, I use to catch them as a kid whenever I went camping, I once filled a plastic bag with them. But now I can't stand them, mostly because of the noise.
As for heights, I never really knew if I was scared of them or not until I went on my high school camp, and volunteered to absail the 20m wall and I actually enjoyed it, I even did that commando jump thing.
FreakTrigger - April 17, 2007 01:15 AM (GMT)
I'm a huge fan of abseiling and rock climbing - I did both for for almost a decade every spare second I had.
Quatters - April 17, 2007 03:43 AM (GMT)
I don't like spiders and that's about it.
They go squish now!
Drake - April 17, 2007 10:03 AM (GMT)
Edges and sharp corners, I have to put something over them...like old clothes or something. And small spaces, being trapped in a small space...me no like.
Decman - April 17, 2007 08:20 PM (GMT)
Hahah, you guys should all visit. No cicada here - noiseless nights, except for the distant romantic mooing of the nearby cows. :D Ahhh...No cockroaches either. Or snakes. St. Patrick killed them all. FACT.
Robert - April 18, 2007 04:11 AM (GMT)
I seen the biggest cockroach ever in a public toilet the other day, incredible size. I lifted the seat and at first I seriously thought it was a rock. I done the bolta even though I was busting.
Cubeoid - April 18, 2007 05:12 AM (GMT)
Bah, you should have showered it.
I hate spiders (well any that are big and black).

Actually, as much as cicada's freak me out, I'm surprisingly ok with spiders - I kept a Brazilian bird eating spider (a female named bruce, as they intrinsically lack femininity) for a few years.

While I do hate spiders, I have no issues with snakes or sharks or anything else that other people fear.
Just those dirty spiders.
NismoR34 - April 22, 2007 04:51 PM (GMT)
Resident Seven: The Space Probe wasn't high! :P (man I miss Wonderland)
Anyway I'm scared of heights although not as much as other people. I can handle rides like the aforementioned Space Probe, for example, not to mention bridges and things like that. Standing on rooftops though? Nope. Yep, ironic in a way but meh. I also have never been on a plane before so I am fully expecting to be shitting myself when it finally comes time to have that experience.
Every thing else that I used to be scared of, I now absolutely love. Storms, the dark - all of that shit is all totally awesome to me now. ESPECIALLY storms. :D
Super Mario - April 23, 2007 11:02 PM (GMT)
I think there's a saying in the bible, that says something like, "what you fear will come true".
So I'm trying to fear winning tattslotto.

ROFL!
I used to have a fear of sleeping away from home, which was usually anywhere without my parents. Gave me a horrid time growing up. Always had to come up with an excuse when friends asked me round for a sleepover. Had occasions where parents have had to come and get me at like midnight.
I still kind of have it now, like leading up to 'bed time' I'll get kinda weird, but as soon as I actually lay down I'm fine, which is when I used to freak out. For example, just had senior camp a few weeks ago. During the day I was like dreading night time, and a little bit at night I was also feeling bad, but as soon as I actually lay down to sleep I was perfectly fine. It's pretty much gone now.
Apart from that, no other fears I can think of... and technically don't have any, seeing as the one above is basically gone now.

Wow fear... I fear alot of things... Spiders, snakes, darkness, heights and being alone...
Mango_Juice - May 15, 2007 06:23 AM (GMT)

I fear things like spiders, zombies ((yes, zombies, they're creepy)), being alone, being... in crowds >.>, umm, waking up and everyone I love is dead...which actually goes along with being alone.
Umm, being a failure, yes I have plenty of issues as well.
:D Yei for issues!

A lovable bear just bumped my thread, now that's something to fear. :P
Angra - August 19, 2007 05:03 AM (GMT)
Heights are my worst phobia. It takes my friends about an hour and then them listening to me whimper in terror for the duration of the line for me to go on a ride where drops and/or heights are involved. I'll go on and I think they're great fun AFTER, but the absolute terror that grips me makes my hands sweat even thinking about it.
I don't scream, ever - no one has heard me scream, until the band and chorus went on a trip to Disney. I let out the loudest, most terrified screams I ever have - I screamed like I was getting murdered in so many horrible ways.
Even at the mall, when I'm on the second floor, I can't look over the edge of the balcony because I feel sick - I feel like I'm going to get pushed over or that something will grab me and pull me down.
Other fears:
-Needles
-Doctors/hospitals
-Mirrors in the dark
-The dark
-The color orange
-Clowns (Don't even fucking talk to me about clowns. I punched one in the face when I was thirteen, god damn it)
-Priests
-Spiders/snakes

Random Hero - August 26, 2007 09:28 AM (GMT)
Yes tell us, tell us NOW MUAHAHAHA *cough*
I think i'm starting to become afraid of heights more than ever before...walking home the other day I crossed a relatively high bridge and I was so nervous I started to feel sick and dizzy. And this bridge is sturdy as, like four lanes of traffic etc.
