Title: Namedropping?
zsa-zsa tofu - April 13, 2007 06:09 AM (GMT)
Have you ever namedropped someone? If so, did it make them very very sad?
For you people who don't know what that is, namedropping is when you post a message about someone and their name is the topic name. Like if I posted a thread that said "[Insert name here]!!" and then said that they suck or something (or whatever...), that's an example of a namedrop. :3
Resident-Seven - April 13, 2007 06:17 AM (GMT)
Ah, can't say I ever have.
Inquisitor - April 13, 2007 09:35 AM (GMT)
RESIDENT-SEVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
You suck.
...NOT!
Resident-Seven - April 13, 2007 11:19 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't have taken offence without the not. ;) I might have if you said I lick.
Oh god I'm terrible.
Ali G - April 13, 2007 11:44 AM (GMT)
...I don't quite understand.
And does it even matter?
Ninja Catfish - April 13, 2007 12:26 PM (GMT)
So you're asking if I've ever made a whole topic on a web forum just to express my disdain towards a certain person?
No I haven't, and would personally hope people don't. If you have a beef with someone, deal with it in private or not at all.
No need to go telling everyone how much you don't like someone.

I thought this thread would be about times when you've bragged about people you know. Like how whenever Rugby Union comes up in conversation I mention that Joe Roff is my cousin's cousin.

OH GOD NO, NOT THE CELEBRITY TOPIC AGAIN! *locks self in titanium vault*
Robert - April 13, 2007 01:36 PM (GMT)
^That's a way better idea for a topic, I always mention the fact that I met David Boon because of the whole booney craze going on over the last year or so. He was actually quite grumpy when I met him. :(

Yeah, Boonie used to live down the road from me. We see him around a bit, his kids play hockey too. Did I mention that Tassie is a small place?
Good tip for if you meet him: Call him David, not Boonie.

Wow, so have you ever seen Ricky Ponting down there? Apparently he plays golf at Royal Hobart rarely but he's an absolute gun at the sport. I think his Dad is still down in Tsssie, so he'd visit when he can I suppose.
Decman, get her to join this forum and make 1 post. We'll create a Harry Potter topic if we have to!

I love the celebrity thread. Did I mention I tailgated Steve Waugh the other day? In truth I was checking out his car (Audi Q7, which is supposedly a stationwagon but looks more like 4WD) and then I saw him looking back at me. It was one of those "I hope he hasn't recognised me, but I better get ready to wave" type looks. Well I didn't wave, very awkward. Anyway now that I know his car I see him everywhere. Also my cousin works with Mark Waugh.

Should I change this thread title to "the Celebrities you know thread" :P
Decman - April 14, 2007 11:42 AM (GMT)
The thread already exists doesn't it?
borgster101 - April 14, 2007 11:46 AM (GMT)
Yeah I'm sure we had a similar discussion before ... not sure where it is though :P

I name drop a bit, but not really intentionally. I used to work a great deal with a good friend of mine named Steve Goldberg, who is probably the most important organising person in footbag, and also happens to be the director of software engineering at google. He owns a $5,000,000 usd house, and also wrote the radar jamming software for stealth bombers when he was 17.
