Title: Best Internet Provider?

Qubert - April 13, 2007 02:57 AM (GMT)
I'm looking to change plans very soon, in your opinion what is the best value for money? Obviously taking speed, limits and price into account.

Internode, they've got some of the best plans and quality products available in Australia.

iiNet are also good, only if you're on their DSLAM hardware though. Their recent plans are disappointing in regards to value for money for Telstra hardware, so I'll be off to Node myself.

Fantastic, I just had a brief look at internode and there plans seem really, really good. Thanks for the quick reply mate. By the way, what exactly is DSLAM hardware? :/

It's the ports that are used to connect people to the Internet, and are stored in a telephone exchange. The majority of people are on a Telstra DSLAM, with ISPs having to pay extra on those compared to Internode / iiNet / Optus DSLAMs, although they are fairly costly to install and there is limited space in most exchanges sadly.

Plus if the ISP doesn't have their own DSLAM, you may not be able to get faster speeds(like ADSL 2+) since Telstra are lazy pricks.

I'd recommend also checking out TPG, if I wasn't locked into a contract at the moment I would try to move to them in a heartbeat. With them I could have ADSL2+ with 40GB download limit for the same price I'm currently paying for 1500k with 20+20GB limit.

I'm stuck with Optusnet...sure it's now ADSL 2+, but at $60 a month, we've only got a 7gb limit!!! :(

All things equal, TPGs price and usage beats iinet bar none. I would move to them

I've got Optus Cable, and we're paying $70 for 12/24GB.

I'm currently with AAPT, 1500/256, with 15GB limit, pretty good :)

QFT

I've been using Internode for a year or so now and they're hard to fault. They have game servers which don't count towards your cap for a fair few games, file servers for gaming content (patches, display drivers, preview videos etc) which also don't count towards your cap, and their customer service that I've experienced is great.
Prices for plan are the best I've found also.

check out Internode games network, this whole site and everything on it counts nil towards your cap.
There's also a list of non-counting stuff on their website (Eg. ABC website, about 30 or so internet radio stations including ChroniX Aggression :D )

Yeah I'm with internode and I've got no complaints.

I'm on their 24000/1000 adsl2+ plan but my exchange is still being upgraded so it's only 1500/256 at the moment, but it's cheaper to go ADSL2+ than on the 1.5mb plan.

You also get free content from the ABC website which is fantastic and unlike with iinet, when you get capped, free content still comes in at the normal speed.

Not sure why you would have free content being shaped... never had that problem...

Also _MetalliX_ you're on an iiNet DSLAM exchange too, and should be on the 2+ plans, although at your distance from the exchange any 2+ speeds wont be too good.
