Title: Gaming Showdown, Week 6:

Machiavelli - April 4, 2007 06:39 AM (GMT)
In my eyes VII is the champion of the Final Fantasy realm. A truly remarkable feat even today, compelling, unpredictable story, engaging characters, memorable musical score, intuitive gameplay. Although the graphical leap to the Playstation seemed like an achievement at the time, the primary reason I put this game on such a pedestal is the enduring impact of the, at times breathtaking storyline. Whether you are a student of gaming or an aficionado, it belongs on your shelf.

VII. Not even close. Incredible story, well-developed characters, fun to play.

IX was like a step BACKWARDS for the franchise, in my opinion.

OMG! I thought I was the only one who thought that! :o
Seriously, imo FFIX was crap, I mean c'mon the main character had a freaking tail! And where's the massive swords? The only thing I actually liked about FFIX was the ability to save on the world map, other than that I hated it. Then I hated it even more when Disc 2 kept freezing on an FMV, so I threw the game away in frustration - this was the NON-platinum version too

FFVII all the way, with FFVIII as my 2nd favourite of the series

NismoR34 - April 4, 2007 06:34 PM (GMT)
You people are nuts, FFIX was absolutely awesome. Yes, it wasn't on par with the two games before it but it was still an awesome game to experience. It was just so... different that it ended up being really awesome.

Anyway, my vote goes to Final Fantasy VIII. Still my pick as the game of the original Playstation's library; I've played through this game more times than Sony has said really stupid things in the recent year. ;)

I could go into detail as to why I prefer it, but I can't be arsed so I will say this instead: I think the reason why I ended up loving FFVIII so much was because it was an awesome love story. Combine that with an awesome soundtrack, some sweet characters and areas and the Gunblade and you have a fantastic game.

VII was also brilliant but unlike most I found that I didn't 'connect' with it as much as others perhaps did. Case in point, Aeris (Aerith) dying. That didn't really affect me at all. Actually, that's a lie. It did affect me eventually, but that was because I kept on dying against Jenova and then had to continually see the scene/hear the music. So yeah.

I voted IX cos its the only FF game I really played, I never played VII and VIII cos I'm not really into RPG's. I never went past Disc2 though cos like /, the game froze during an FMV where you're in that giant flying ship.

Drake - April 5, 2007 04:20 AM (GMT)
That used to be like THE spoiler back in the day. I never played it but I knew about aeris dying looong ago. I never played any FF so I can't vote. :(

borgster101 - April 5, 2007 04:22 AM (GMT)
Yeah I havent played them either, but I still know about this big event :P

FreakTrigger - April 5, 2007 05:05 AM (GMT)
For me it goes 7, 6, 9, 5, 8...

10 and onwards has been pretty guff.

BrotherEstapol - April 5, 2007 09:10 AM (GMT)
Final Whatasy?

DZ - April 5, 2007 09:33 AM (GMT)
Its never the final Fantasy.

Nags - April 5, 2007 11:51 AM (GMT)
FFX is what got me into the series, and i appreciated the music, story, graphics and game play so much more than any other Final Fantasy. Since this option is not available i will have to go with VII

That's the whole point smart guy! :P

Overall, I'd say FFIX is the best in the PSX series, and third overall, behind VI and IV. I'm a fan of old RPGs and fantasy environments so I was aways gonna pick IX. :)

And what are you going to do about it? :P

I don't know maybe I'll finish Twilight Princess for the second time.

OH SNAP! :P

BrotherEstapol - April 6, 2007 09:31 AM (GMT)
Then post some spoilers like how Midna and Zelda are actually the same person. :drevil:

NismoR34 - April 6, 2007 06:36 PM (GMT)
^ To be honest I couldn't care for spoilers anymore as I know that it is my own fault for not playing the game. If I didn't own it then yeah I'd care, but anyway. As for Midna and Zelda being the same person or whatever, that wouldn't surprise me because Sheik was Zelda and so was Tetra.

ZOMG, SPOILERS! :P

borgster101 - April 6, 2007 10:41 PM (GMT)
 This is funny, it's probably more fun for us if Nismo continues to not play TP :P

Machiavelli - April 7, 2007 02:45 AM (GMT)
A bunch of staff members completely derailing a thread, you may as well create a topic on cheap viagra pills while you're at it. :P

borgster101 - April 7, 2007 03:02 AM (GMT)

Hey, the door was open, so I walked through it :P

I played it before I was reading mags or able to go online, so it took me *completely* by surprise.
And she was one of my best characters :(

But VII gets my vote simply because even after playing to disc 3 and losing my file to a stupid brother who wanted to save something else, I still went back and played it through again.
VIII I liked, but the GF/Junction system was just too hard to use effectively, might be easier now if I went back though.
And couldn't play IX as much as I wanted to due to limited funds at the time.

Quatters - April 10, 2007 06:47 AM (GMT)
FFIX!!
It just had so much charm!
