Title: God of War
Chancewithinadoubt - March 20, 2007 03:59 AM (GMT)
Awesome game! Awesome fights! Just lots of gore... but I <3.
Personally I like the greek mythology thoguh the entire game... thats what draws me too it... and some of the fighting you dont see in other games (snap someones back in 2 often?)
It's very unique I think... But then.. I don't get out much.
Qubert - March 20, 2007 04:13 AM (GMT)
Loved the orginal but I hated it sometimes too because some of the puzzles are just there, no real clues on how to get past certain things. You get use to it later on though I suppose. The sequel should be even better...hopefully anyway. :)
Chancewithinadoubt - March 20, 2007 04:48 PM (GMT)
Oo it most definatly is in my opinion (#2). A bit more gruesom and the puzzles are more interesting... Although I can't figure most of them out.. Lol. Have to get my boyfriend. :fight:

Ironic that this thread is here actually since I have recently been considering picking myself up a copy and seeing what the game is like. I was always interested in the Greek Mythology aspect of it, but didn't think the actual gameplay was my type of thing. Now though, I am beginning to think the opposite so yeah, definitely interested in at least trying God of War now. And hell, if I like it then that's in a way perfect timing since the sequel is due in the near future. :)

There's enough kittens on the internet as it is :P
Drake - March 29, 2007 04:29 AM (GMT)
No kitten talk in a God of War thread! *serious* Hey for anyone that has started to play it, is Kratos' brother going to be in this one?

Wasn't that the same with the 1st game as well?
That part was awesome.
Pitty we played the game AFTER we met the developers and they'd gone back to the US. :(
Drake - April 5, 2007 04:17 AM (GMT)
Good Game gave God of War 2 a really good review, like 9/10 and 8.5/10 chickens. It's gonna be awesome. D
Zero_Darkness - April 18, 2007 03:56 AM (GMT)
It is the best game ever. both of them, but I liked the first more

I can't wait to get this, i'm going to try and beat it on titan mode on my first attempt. :D

I've recently replayed GoW1 cos I'll be getting GoW2 soon. Eurogamer gave the sequel 9/10!! Best game on PS2? And its really unbeleiveable how good the graphics look compared to other games on XBox which are supposedly meant to kick PS2's arse. :P I'm very impressed with Sony.
Anastasios912 - May 3, 2007 10:45 PM (GMT)
Man I wish that game would come out for 360 :-(
But i know it will never be...
Oh well, I do have a PSP so I can play that one when it comes out.

Similar to franchises like Devil May Cry, Rygar, and Castlevania, the game draws its inspiration from ancient Greek mythology and boasts a heavy emphasis on exploration and battle strategy. Broken into three to four acts, the game also has a strong focus on story-telling and boast tons of magic spells and abilities. Described as "Clash of the Titans meets Heavy Metal", God of War equips its hero with a pair of sword-like chain weapons that can grab enemies, perform multi-hit combos, and pull off a variety of different aerial attacks. Slight platforming elements and an energy collection system similar to that of Onimusha have been incorporated as well, and players are even able to use certain elements of their fallen enemies as a weapon (re: Medusa's head, for instance, can be used to turn enemies to stone after you've defeated her).
I love the gameplay, i played The first God of War and actually i copmpleted it in one and a half days ( I even mised a school day .
Now that God Of War II came out its EVEN better.
Completed it twice so far ( ofcourse second time is easier/faster because you know what to do )
Brilliant game, so if anyone thinks of buying it, i rekomend it :)

Last Post was in may, and i read in another topic people dont like bringing old topics back up.
Im new need to get a hang of things ;)
borgster101 - July 24, 2007 08:23 AM (GMT)
Typically we don't like bumps of old topics when the said bump doesn't actually contribute anything, things like "this game is cool" add nothing and are annoying.
But your post would have been a worthy bump, therefore I've merged the threads

I like the way you think :cheese:
Merging is the way to go :)
Drake - July 24, 2007 10:10 AM (GMT)
There are Christian google ads appearing because this topic is named god of war.
What do you think will happen in god of war 3? I reckon Vergil will appear and lay waste to all gods and titans, including Kratos. :D
sarunas007 - July 24, 2007 10:16 AM (GMT)
Well i reckon God Of War 3 will be the last in the series, and the storyline of the series will end in a trilogy.

No More Quick Time Kills This was something that Jaffe has used extensively in the past two games, and for all we know even invented. The past games were lauded for using these “mini-games” to create the experience of a truly cinematic kill. This was a great method in the past, but now it’s time to let it die. The fact is, that while those events were cool to watch, pressing X, O, X, Half-circle-joystick-motion has absolutely bollocks to do with the experience of stabbing dragging a Cyclops to the ground and stabbing him in the eye. Like I said, it was fine before, but now God of War needs to find some new territory with which to make our jaws drop. You won us over with a keen eye for cinematic gameplay, but now show us you’re not a one-trick pony.
Give The Reins Back To Jaffe Sorry Cory Balrog. God of War 2 was great, and I’m sure it was in large part due to you, but this is Jaffe country. God of War 2 just felt at all times, like it was trying so hard not to fail the original, and while it didn’t fail by any standards it also tread absolutely no new ground (re: the grappling hook was worthless and doesn’t warrant being discussed). Balrog’s timidity was something that harmed God of War 2, and let me tell you: no one in this industry has ever accused David Jaffe of being timid. The next installment has to truly be amazing to gamers or else the series risks becoming stagnant. It has to be amazing, but also new and exciting. Those of us in the gaming industry, alongside every other gamer, always expect a new and improved game when a series jumps to brand new hardware, and there’s nothing wrong with that. With new tools and hardware to exploit, developers should be expected to take the experience to the next level. I don’t believe that Cory Balrog is the one to do that.
Less Of A Focus On GraphicsThe last two God of War games have been extremely beautiful works of art, but I believe the time of necessity for a fantastic graphical showing has passed and is no longer necessary. Both pushed what was believed to be the limit of the PS2 at their time, but to be perfectly frank, graphics are little more than a marketing tool. Games are often made to look beautiful to cover up a lack of depth in game play so that they still sell well. God of War does not need this. The brand name alone will be enough to catapult this game into the platinum realm; so I would love to see the development team spend a lot more time and money working out the kinks in gameplay and making sure it’s as fun as possible rather than pushing the graphical envelope.
This is only the beginning, we’ve got plenty of ideas on how to help God of War survive well into the next generation and we plan on voicing every one of them. While today was a very macro approach and talking a lot about overarching ideas and generalities, in the future we’ll get down to the nitty gritty and discuss glorious detail.
Before presenting the next part in this series of God of War 3 improvements, we would like to know what you, the reader, feel should be added (or removed) from the next God of War installment. Feel free to voice your opinion below.

Interesting post and I like the thought you have put in but I can't agree.
Not that it has anything to do with anything but Jaffe was not involved in GoW2 nor did he invent QTEs... they have been around since Dragon's Lair.
Secondly I say keep them. It would be great if they could be linked more successfully with the action on screen but they are effectively the GoW trade mark and work a treat.
I also say keep Jaffe out. A) The guy is an over opinionated arsehole but more importantly B) GoW 2 is better than GoW.
While GoW and GoW 2 pushed the graphics envelope for the PS2 good graphics does not mean you have to trade in gameplay... this fact alone is evidenced by the quality of the GoW games in the first place.
Yes the game design should come first but graphics come from the art team and gameplay comes from the design team. A focus on one does not mean the other gets no attention.
Secondly who the fuck is Andrew? No offense but what on earth is this "This is only the beginning, we’ve got plenty of ideas on how to help God of War survive well into the next generation and we plan on voicing every one of them. While today was a very macro approach and talking a lot about overarching ideas and generalities, in the future we’ll get down to the nitty gritty and discuss glorious detail.

I write for the biggest selling PC games rag in the country and despite my constant displays of extreme arrogance (probably evidenced in this very paragraph :P) I'd never write something so presumptuous as the above.
P.S. This post probably comes across as harsh, I'm drunk and nigh on unable to edit. Please do not take it as a slap down, it is actually intended as discussion. Drunken discussion but discussion nonetheless.

Its cool... after all your just giving your opinion by, and this is actually debating, formal method of interactive and position representational argument, its a broader form of argument than logical argument.
Much Different from where i came from ( forums ) all their posts were too argumentative, im happy with debates bro :) Its all part of my evo experience...

I hope that God of War 3 will be better than or at least as great as the first two games. There are so many times where I had high expectations, but sometimes sequels never lived up to those expectations (Metal Gear Solid 2 and Devil May Cry 2). Both God of War games are amazing, so I hope that God of War 3 sets the bar to a whole new level. I am wiling to wait until 2010 as long as God of War 3 is worth it. It seems that Metal Gear Solid 4 and God of War 3 are the only 2 reasons to buy a PlayStation 3.
