Title: Gaming Showdown, Week 2:

Majora's Mask complexity always turned me off a bit compared to Ocarina of Time, it's just not as accessible. It's an outstanding game nonetheless, as pretty much all Zelda games are synonymous with legendary. However, I really find OoT to be more of a "total package", it excels MM in almost every department. And let's not forget the final boss battle, it may well be one of the best conclusions to any video game ever.

Can't vote for either I'm afraid. I owned an N64 yet never had the privilage of playing these Zelda games. I think I sold my console before they were released or something

Sure I can get OoT on the VC channel but I still haven't completed Z:TP on the Wii.

CARTERlikesPants - March 6, 2007 03:46 AM (GMT)
I completely agree Machiavelli, Majora's was actually too hard for me when I was a little tyke, it was a little overconfusing at some points.

I stuck to the more classic storyline. I've been playing Oot since a bit after it's release on and off, doesn't really get old for some reason either.

Majora's Mask was a brilliant game. I loved the 'Groundhog Day' aspects, the giant scary moon glaring at you from above, that creepy skull kid etc.

It's the superior of the two and I'm sure I'll rebuy it on VC just so I can play it in slightly higher resolution.

Not to say the OOT is a bad game (I even rebought that too!), it was my first Zelda game after all (made me fall in love with the series).
I just felt that the idea behind MM was really original.

MM was my first Zelda game that I played in full and completed (such a glorious experience), whilst OoT I just recently finished and love it as a game too... but I think MM was the better game in the end, and the emotional impact was greater along with the NPC interaction.

The whole time limit thing in MM restricted the amount of fun I had. It's just annoying to gather up the stuff you lose...bombs, arrows, etc and then tackle a dungeon. Time limits hardly ever work in games. Ocarina of Time ends up as the better game here but A Link to the Past remains the definitive Zelda game.

I just enjoyed Majora's Mask alot more than I did OoT...can't really put my finger on the reason though. :/

Nags - March 6, 2007 01:25 PM (GMT)
Ocarina was the game that got me into games. MM was the games that showed me how to break the mold. Both are important, and both have a special place in my heart, but without ocarina, there would be no MM

NismoR34 - March 6, 2007 04:05 PM (GMT)
^ That's a fair point there Nags and one that should, by default make Ocarina of Time the general favourite here.

But I have to say, I too preferred Majora's Mask.

Ocarina of Time was brilliant and it was the game that introduced me to the Legend/s, it was and still is one of the best games ever to be made and you won't find me ever saying otherwise, but even so I definitely enjoyed Majora's Mask more.

I think Majora's main problem is that unlike Ocarina, it doesn't draw you into its world as deep as it potentially can on the first playthrough. It's only on the second or third runs through Majora's Mask that you realise just how deep the game is. And I'm not just referring to the emotionally connected characters and how they had their own lives to consider or whatever. Infact I don't know what exactly I am referring to; the aforementioned emotional bonds that the characters shared and expressed played a big part of it but there was just something else to Majora's that sets it apart. Something that remains mysterious yet draws you in like no other game can (or has), and yeah if you're a gamer who can be drawn in by this and can recognise the affects it is having on you well then I think you will also realise just how special Majora's Mask is.

If for some reason you aren't drawn into it, then obviously Ocarina of Time will be the better overall experience for you. Luckily for me, despite not being able to describe it well here I was drawn into the wonders of Termina and as such, Majora's Mask was the more enjoyable experience for me.

Ocarina of Time, it brought the series to 3D and was amazing the first time, Majora's Mask was great and improved on Ocarina in some areas, but not in others, and a lot of the game was borrowed from OOT. I've played through Ocarina several more times than I did Majora's Mask, so Ocarina gets my vote.

Though the latest Twilight Princess is better than both of them :D

The only thing that is better about Majora's Mask is the fact that you can't beat it without taking a single hit, with one hand tied behind your back. Not so with OoT but apart from that OoT wins by a long shot in my books.

Nah, Oot Forever, and ever.

I'd rebuy if they Re-did the graphics.

Ocarina of Time

Personally I find that to be THE Zelda game for me. TP came close but it didn't have that "wow" factor that OOT did when it came out. I guess because it was the first 3D Zelda.

borgster101 - March 9, 2007 10:20 PM (GMT)
A lot of people hold OOT up there as the best Zelda game, but I think its because it was the first 3D Zelda game, and as Civ said it has that wow factor. When you look at TP in comparison, its better in every way, graphics, story, sound, gameplay variety, characters, and the like.

But this is OOT v.s. Majora's Mask, and in that regard OOT wins ;)

Random Hero - March 12, 2007 12:10 PM (GMT)
Ocarina of Time was a large part of my childhood, it wins hands down imho. :D
