Title: G.R.A.W 2
Description: Jet Fighters!

NismoR34 - February 20, 2007 04:12 PM (GMT)
Last thread from me tonight.

The original GRAW kicked my arse, on more than one occasion too. It was my first tactical shooting game and it blew me away. It was hard but not too hard, it looked fantastic, played brilliantly and yeah I loved it. So naturally as soon as this new game was announced my anticipation for it went sky-high. Once the videos and screenshots started coming through, I just knew that I had to have this game when it releases and my god I can't wait.

I mean come on, it features Jet Fighters now! Jet Fighters!

Okay sure, you can't fly them yourself or whatever but it will still be damn cool seeing them fly overhead and bomb a target while you're hiding behind cover and (probably) taking care of other enemies within the intense firefight. Oh god how that will be sweet!

Moving on though, the other new additions seem to be pretty sweet too. The Mule for example, should prove to be an interesting addition. Be it for the supplies on the go that it can give you or the temporary cover in the more open space environments. Obviously having the Cross-Com 2.0 will also be interesting, seeing the viewpoints from your fellow Ghosts, the Jet fighters or whatever - all of it will be pretty sweet.

The demo that was released on the marketplace recently was unfortunately quite short, but if such a short demo can whet my appetite for this game in such a quick way well then I really can't wait to get my hands on the final product.

Bring it on!

Machiavelli - February 21, 2007 02:36 AM (GMT)
Absolutely agree. Simply a must purchase for me as well, the original had me hypnotized for a good six months at least.

Multiplayer Demo next week

This site is reasonably credible, I doubt it is speculation.

DJ-Civic - February 22, 2007 04:36 PM (GMT)
I can't believe the most exciting thing for you is Jet Fighters...
I doubt you'll have them ALL the time so it'll be one of those cool things you see on some levels.

Personally I find the new freedom of being able to see through the 'eyes' of your UAV/MULE/Squad for more precise supression of the enemy or being able to pinpoint where they are.

I can't wait for it either and like the original, I'll probably play it like 6 times on Hard. Tried that yet Nismo? :P

NismoR34 - February 22, 2007 05:37 PM (GMT)
Oh shut up.

I do plan on doing so, is that good enough? :P

And I'm excited about the Jet Fighters because it comes across as 'perfectly' implemented, well, if those videos of them in action are anything to go by anyway. It's obvious that they'll only be available to you at certain times within the game, but that's good enough for me. Even without the Jet Fighters though, this game is shaping up to be really awesome and as I said I can't wait to get my hands on it. Multiplayer demo on the way eh? Good news I guess, although I suck at GRAW multiplayer so I don't think I'll be downloading it...

DJ-Civic - February 23, 2007 02:42 PM (GMT)
Go on... I'll teach you how to play it... ;)

NismoR34 - February 23, 2007 05:49 PM (GMT)
Pfft, yeah right!

Teach me by killing me right? I mean, look how fucking long it took me to get that damn achievement from you, you bastard! :P

DJ-Civic - February 27, 2007 04:41 PM (GMT)

Nismo: "Where are you?
Civ: "Near the billboard..."
Nismo: "Which billboard? There's heaps of bi[BAM!]"

:P

In other news, the GRAW2 multiplayer demo is now up on XBL! W00t! :D According to IGN it's one heck of a demo!

NismoR34 - February 27, 2007 05:03 PM (GMT)
^I hate you for that, you bastard. :P

Not sure if I will get this demo or not like I've already said. IGN's high-praise of it makes me want to get the demo to try it out, but then again I wouldn't know what to expect from it either as I haven't really played multiplayer GRAW before. Apart from the co-op stuff with Civ, and the 'let's show how n00bish Nismo is' sessions too. <_<

As for the game itself, I didn't realise it comes out in like a week or two. That snuck up fast! Too bad I won't be able to get it on launch then, unless of course mum decides that she doesn't need to borrow money from me.

DJ-Civic - February 28, 2007 03:33 PM (GMT)
I don't care where I get it and how much - launch day I'm there. ;)

NismoR34 - February 28, 2007 04:57 PM (GMT)
Go and win a second copy again so we can repeat what happened last time. ;)

DZ - February 28, 2007 09:47 PM (GMT)
WTF?? There were jet fighters in Ghost Recon 2 on PS2. I remember on stage where I called in a jet to bomb a tank that was in my route, twas fun. Why are you so excited? Its been done already. :P Unless yiu NEVER PLAYED the early GR games... hmm?

Machiavelli - March 1, 2007 05:41 AM (GMT)
DZ, we already know Nismo is a Ghost Recon n00b. :P

Achievement List Revealed

Good to see they have done away with the "Top Of The Leaderboard" achievements. They were simply unachievable in GRAW.

Exactly! So let me get excited over a trivial part of the game and leave me be! :P

There's still some really hard achievements in there though, it seems. Like those 'do a certain thing with 5 other Gamertags in the room' ones. That seems like they've added the challenge for the sake of adding a challenge, rather than to actually be an achievement in itself. If that makes sense.

But anyway, won't stop me from getting the game. On launch now too! Turns out mum doesn't need as much money as I thought she did so that means I have some spare cash again and it's going straight to this gem of a game. Bring it on! :dance3:

Drake - March 2, 2007 07:01 AM (GMT)
you think it's gonna be better than gears?

DZ - March 2, 2007 08:23 AM (GMT)
Yes, Gears is overated and has dull scenery compared to the lush and realistic warfare of GR. Plus its Tom Clancy!!! :D

I don't think anything with regards to how each title will compare to the other, purely because in my eyes they are incomparable and the enjoyment had from either title comes from different aspects of the respective games.

I'm sure you can compare environments since 1 game has you fighting evil monsters in the future with guns that have chainsaws attached, while the other is set in the not too distant future in Mexico fighting people. :P

Anyway, I've been playing the MP demo and its pretty good. Its basically the same as GRAW but with new weapons and all that. Not that its a bad thing - but some people won't like it. AI seems to be a bit thougher though which could be a pain when trying to 'perfect' the co-op missions to get the achivments, but I'm sure they'll be manageable.
Man I can't believe it'll be available on Thursday.

NismoR34 - March 5, 2007 04:28 PM (GMT)
We still need to try the MP demo together.

And well I can't believe it will be here this week either. I was going to get it on launch day too but turns out that a friend is selling Burnout Revenge and possibly some other 360 games cheap this week and I get first dibs, so looks like GRAW 2 will now be purchased with my next pay. Which is only next week anyway, so not far at all. :)

Cubeoid - March 6, 2007 01:07 AM (GMT)
Anyone here entering the competition for $10,000? I know I am even if I know I will suck badly and lose. Head over to IGN to check the details.

DJ-Civic - March 7, 2007 05:17 PM (GMT)
Yep I put my name in the barrel so I can have a go. I'd be happy with being in the top 20 for a limited edition faceplate. ;)

Anyhoo I got the game today so here's what I think so far;

The game sure does look nicer than the original. There were moments that had me in awe as the visuals really were amazing, like when you're on the chopper and its literally bucketing down! The water splashes off everything on screen and it looks plain cool. Then you shoot down enemies with your chopper-mounted mini-gun! Fun indeed! :D
The game does pretty much play the same as GRAW but it's not like its a bad thing. The new FCV(full camera view) is pretty cool, specially during combat as you can tell your squad where enemies are more precisely.
I managed to reach Nismo's most anticipated part - Jet Fighters!!!!!!!!!!!!111!1!!11~ :P Its brief like seen on that net video, but man was it cool! The explosion shook my room like no other game has done before. ;)
Then I jumped into some co-op campaign online, where I found some local aussie players, so no lag to be seen. Man, this time around these missions are damn hard! Enemies are smarter and they're harder to pinpoint, but if you use the UAV correctly you can keep tabs on where they are. Took me and 2 other guys about 1 hour to finish and perfect 1 mission. It was fun but nerve racking at times - specially when I was the only one alive with 6 guys after me.
Overall I think the game's great as its like an extension to GRAW, which I didn't want to end. ;) This might finally pull me away from Gears of War.

Machiavelli - March 8, 2007 05:07 AM (GMT)
Damn you Civic! Awesome impressions, I can't freakin' wait to play this game now. Alas, I have to hang around until March 12 and then shipping time from Play-Asia on top of that. :argh:

Cubeoid - March 8, 2007 06:48 AM (GMT)
I pretty much agree with Civiv there though I'm yet to try it online. I'll wait till later tonight or tomorrow, when I get a bit more practice at it. As it stands at the moment I have played too many third person action games recently (Gears, Crackdown and now this) and I keep getting my buttons and stuff mixed up. :P

But yeah, good shit. Me likies.

DJ-Civic - March 9, 2007 04:45 PM (GMT)
Ok managed to play a bit more today and I got up to a really cool part where.... well I don't want to spoil it as it's part of the story, so I'll just say that you can see Cpt. Mitchell's shaved head. ;)
Also got my hands on an Apache Helicopter to destroy some nasty tanks, and man was that fun - specially using the FCV.

So do you guys want to organise a co-op/multiplayer session(s) when we all have the game? Co-op would be sweet.

DZ - March 9, 2007 10:51 PM (GMT)
Its hard for me to beleive that GRAW is from the same team that made the sucky GR2 on PS2. The framerate in that game seriously affected gampelay. Also the crosshair movement was chunky making aiming difficult. Good to see GRAW has changed this... probably bcos of better hardware too. :P

That's probably cause they would have ported it from the PC version back in the day, and as everyone knows, the PS2 is no PC. B-)

DJ-Civic - March 10, 2007 04:58 PM (GMT)
Just add a 16MB stick of RAM and it is... :P

DZ - March 10, 2007 10:22 PM (GMT)
^LOL!!!11

Btw, I thought GR was initially a console title that later got released on PC...? Like Splinter Cell, no?

Edit: Ooops sorry, GR1 was a port to PS2 from PC. But GR2 was never released for PC so nyer! :P No port, and aparently it used the updated Havok physics engine... probably why it sucked on PS2?

BrotherEstapol - March 12, 2007 12:42 AM (GMT)
I must be thinking of Rainbow 6...I know it was orignally a PC-based title.

Damn these Tom Clancy games! :P

DZ - March 13, 2007 06:11 AM (GMT)
Clancy should be proud though with his name on quality titles such as R6, SC, and GRAW.

NismoR34 - March 15, 2007 05:46 PM (GMT)
^ I'm sure his bank account is proud. ;)

Anyway I've got the game now so impressions will be up soon. 'Specially if I make it to the Jet Fighters section. ;)

NismoR34 - March 19, 2007 06:05 PM (GMT)
Right, well double post again but that can be Civ's fault for not posting more on the game. Or something. :P

I finally got into this after being distracted by Burnout Revenge and so far I have finished Act 1.

Act 1 was easy, I have to say but that would be mostly because it is basically what we've all seen before. Both from the demo and the video footage too. So yeah it wasn't too hard at all but despite that, it was bloody good fun. It felt great playing GRAW 2 and not knowing what could come next, not knowing where to go or what the levels will be like. Playing the original GRAW over and over again is still awesome but yeah it is definitely nice to have a sense of the unknown again. Best thing so far for me though?

I got to use Jet Fighters. :D

Okay yes I may hype that particular aspect up or whatever (and let's face it, the first time you use them is rather brief) but damn if they haven't nailed it either. The sound, the speed in which it happens, the accuracy of it...

Just AWESOME! :D I can't wait to see what awaits me in Act 2 and 3, let alone what the Co-Op levels will be like.

DJ-Civic - March 21, 2007 05:33 PM (GMT)
You're slow man! I've finished it and now gonna try it on "Elevated Risk" which should be fun. ;)
Been playing a bit of multiplayer and its damn addictive! Just wish those co-op missions would be a bit more forgiving... :nooo:

_MetalliX_ - March 22, 2007 01:05 AM (GMT)
Don't know if I'll pick this up. To tell you the truth I wasn't too happy with GRAW, it just got so repetitive. The AI is utter crap, no where near the quality of the RS6 AI, which makes firefights frustrating because they will usually move from their cover and die, or stand out in the open when I get ambushed rather than run for cover.

And after using the Gears Of War cover system, and even the RS6 cover system, GRAW just paled in comparison. The controls in the game are all too complicated and there is just too much to think about when all I want to do is move my squad around and kill people. Instead they give me tanks which seem to be driven by a 6 year old, and a tactical map which is utterly useless.

I think from memory however they had changed over the cover system to RS6 style for GRAW 2.

DJ-Civic - March 23, 2007 06:52 PM (GMT)
Not really. The cover system in GRAW2 is the same as the original's. There is no "hold L trigger to cover" a la RS6. Personally I have no problem with it, but one thing I don't like is that it feels a little slow compared to RS6 and Gears cover systems.

NismoR34 - March 25, 2007 04:43 PM (GMT)
And since I don't make comparisons between games like that, I have nothing to say on the issue. :P

So I played the game some more and did what I believe is the majority of Act 2. Okay so I don't know that since well, I didn't actually finish Act 2 but yeah I was playing for quite a while so I assume I am close enough. For the record, I just returned to Juarez or however you spell it.

Anyway I can definitely say that so far, GRAW 2 is as enjoyable as GRAW 1 was for me. Now that I've been playing on some missions where I don't know what is coming, what I'll need to do and the like, it's been intense, it has been awesome and yeah I am loving it. Unfortunately there hasn't been any more Jet Fighter sequences yet but I'm sure they're coming. (and no that's not an invitation to spoil anything, Civ :P)

Also did the first Co-Op mission with Civ which was pretty cool. Wasn't too hard once we got going properly and we seem to work together reasonably well, so yeah it was good. Oh and Civ, how 'bout that water eh? :P

Machiavelli - March 26, 2007 05:03 AM (GMT)
It appears my copy was backordered for around two weeks, finally shipped out today. Once i'm done with the single player campaign i'll be free for some multiplayer, we should all hook up for some co-op sometime.

NismoR34 - March 26, 2007 04:08 PM (GMT)
^ Yeah I'll be up for that. :)

Anyway, finished off Act 2 this evening. Got to use the Jet Fighters again which was totally awesome although the section was too brief for my liking. But I was still in awe because when I first called it to attack a tank, it flew right above my viewpoint at the time (in the helicopter) and I saw it fire off the missiles right into the target (which I didn't see last time) and yeah, it was awesome. GODDAMN they nailed that.

Shutup Nismo.

DJ-Civic - April 2, 2007 05:18 PM (GMT)
Mach, you don't wanna play co-op with Nismo. I do all the work and he just hangs back till the end so he gets the achievements. :P
I had some 60 kills in 1 mission and he had 15.

DZ - April 2, 2007 08:34 PM (GMT)
I played GRAW2 on my phone and found it to be quite fun. :P You should try it.

Hey, we can carry his arse together. :P Unfortunately, it still hasn't arrived yet, it's really starting to cheese me off too. I'll have it either tommorow or friday, God willing. :P As I said, I want to run through the campaign and brush up on my skills first, then i'll definitely be up for some co-op action.
