Title: Burnout Dominator
NismoR34 - February 20, 2007 04:03 PM (GMT)
Yes, another thread from me tonight. This time about the upcoming Burnout Dominator for PS2.
It won't be out for at least another month, but already I am getting quite excited about this game. It has been quite some time since the last Burnout game and while this isn't being directly made by Criterion (they're focusing on Burnout 5 of course), I still think this game will be pretty sweet.
Some people's comments that I have seen think otherwise though, purely because EA is behind it. Now unlike most, I do indeed like some EA games so maybe I am wrong in saying this or whatever, but I don't see the problem with EA developing this title. It's not meant to be the proper sequel that Burnout 5 is for one, it's returning the game to its core element/s and Criterion would have their input into the game anyway, so I don't see it as necessarily a bad thing. Obviously time will tell, but for now I am still as excited for this title as I would be from any Burnout game made fully by Criterion. So there you go.
Anyway, what do the rest of you think about this game? Are you interested in it? Plans on getting it?
Prefer to wait until Burnout 5?
Discuss. :)

Whilst I have some intention of buying this on the PS2, something in the back of my head (possibly my brain or some leftover dandruff) tells me to buy this on the PS3 instead when I finally decide to hand over 1000 or so clams at some stage in the future. I really don't want to purchase the same game twice and playing it on a next-gen console with my HD tv would definately seal the deal for me.
I never finished Burnout Revenge on the PS2 and I think one of the main reasons for that was the frustration it caused with overloaded scenery, pixelation and cars popping up at random on occasions. I just don't think I can handle another Burnout game on an outdated console, with each sequel things get more complex yet whilst still enjoyable there's a whole lot more anger going on!

As it stands at the moment, Burnout Dominator won't be coming to the current gen platforms. Burnout 5 is for those.
Burnout Dominator at the moment is just a PS2 and PSP title, so unless you meant that you wanted to play this game on the PS3 (rather than buy it on PS3), then nevermind. But if you got confused and thought that this was also a current-gen game, then now you know that it isn't.
Does that change your mind a bit?

Never finished 3 let alone Revenge :D Probably won't be getting this for that reason. But who knows what spontaneity will dictate.

It doesn't change my mind, just confuses the hell out of me :P
So Burnout Dominator is just for the PS2 and PSP and Burnout 5 is for X360 & PS3? I swear Dominator was both for old and new consoles...

Can it get any better? Honestly, what more can criterion do? They have perfected the genre, nothing is better than Burnout revenge, period. The only thing I can think of is more levels, which can be easily made as downloadable content for revenge.

I might be tempted to get this for my PSP in the future, depending on how well it's made compared to the PS2 version. Otherwise I'll just wait for Burnout 5 on the 360.

Copy and paste. I'm still going through Revenge on the 360 again.

Oh it's obvious that Burnout 5 will be the Burnout game to put your gaming hours into, or whatever. It is the next proper Burnout game after all, but being the massive Burnout fan that I am I just can't pass up on this title either.
Plus it's a racing game, you all know what I'm like with racing games...
Robert - February 23, 2007 02:56 AM (GMT)
As if you would buy this on PS2 or Xbox
BrotherEstapol - February 23, 2007 02:03 PM (GMT)
Seconded!
I'm waiting for Burnout 5 on the 360 before I buy any new Burnout games.
DJ-Civic - February 23, 2007 02:39 PM (GMT)
How about you just buy a 2nd X360 game, Estapol? Surely you want to play something else other than Gears of War. :P

What else are you going to buy it on though?
The SNES?
Incase it isn't clear enough already, it is only a PS2 or PSP title people. Fair enough if you can wait until the next proper Burnout game on the current generation consoles and all, but if you aren't buying it because you think it is coming out on the 360 or PS3 instead you are kidding yourselves.
That said, you could probably play it on either console anyway thanks to backwards compatibility.
But meh, looks like I'm the only one getting this game.

Yeah, come on Estapol, Gears of War is great and all but there are other great 360 games out right now :)
BrotherEstapol - February 25, 2007 02:49 AM (GMT)
Well I say I've hardly given Gears a run for it's money yet...though unlike most games I buy these days, I have actuallly completed it at least once. :P
ultracrazy1 - February 25, 2007 09:10 PM (GMT)
omg where did I come from? (okami comp caught my eye =P)
I'm starting to consider getting this on PSP. Downloaded a stack of demos, and one of them was ridge racer 2. All of a sudden I realised that racing games can work with 2 buttons and a dpad and now I'm hoping that burnout dominator has similar controls.
I wouldn't get this on PS2. My next console racing game better be feature stacked and prettier than a Byrdo stick (wtf amirite?). I've heard they're really tweaking the controls so that it can be played with either a nub or dpad, and I'm trying to maintain a nub-free existance on the PSP.

At least hire out King Kong or something, so your gamerscre doesn't look so pitiful. :P
Any news on whether or not Criterion are including a night and day cycle or real-time weather effects in Dominator?

Pfft, online stats mean sweet fuck-all to me. BF2 helped me see the light on that one. ;)

At the moment I'd say no, or assume no at least. Being a PS2 title for one, there's probably no point in the EA team behind it putting the effort in for such inclusions. That and well the races are 'predetermined' (for lack of a better term) anyway so chances are the tracks will only be modelled the once with whatever 'weather' they choose at the time.
Burnout 5 though, being (apparently) in a free-roaming city might include weather effects and a day/night cycle, but who knows.
