Title: Public Noticeboard
markymark - December 2, 2004 01:48 AM (GMT)
i know it's uncool to start threads plugging stuff but sometimes there are sites people might want to share that may be of genuine interest to the evo population. so in an attempt to make shameless plugging partially 'legal' and to keep it all clean, contained and easily avoided if so desired, may i present, the 'public noticeboard'.
if you know of, or have created a site that you think deserves some attention, post a url here for your fellow evolutionists consideration.
unsurprisingly, i'll get the ball rolling :D
BACTERIAbacteria is a brand new monthly anime art competition that has been kicked off by a bloke i met at devart. i don't know how many people are aware of the various monthly anime comps around the net, but if you have any amount of creativity, they can be a lot of fun.
the premise is simple. there is a set theme which you draw a pic too, you submit it, people vote on the best submission, and if you win, you choose the theme for the following month. the prize is especially attractive if you have some of your own characters/storylines that you want some exposure for because you can choose your own creations as the theme for everyone to draw.
so anyways, if any of the evo artists are interested, head over and sign up. as i said before, the site is brand new so you'll be getting in on the ground floor :D
_MetalliX_ - December 2, 2004 02:04 AM (GMT)
Wow, never before have I seen a site quite so beautiful as that one...
Well I am making about three sites at the moment, none of which are finished (some of which aren't even started), for a few businesses.
markymark - December 2, 2004 02:11 AM (GMT)
there’s no need for sarcasm young man! :P the guy is more of a programmer than a designer. i’m going to have a bash at some web design tonight...
_MetalliX_ - December 2, 2004 02:37 AM (GMT)
Oh ok, its just that an art site that looks like that doesnt exactly look very credible.
markymark - December 2, 2004 03:03 AM (GMT)
actually, none of the monthlies seem that well designed. the oldest and most popular one (that i know of) is
mag, and it looks absolutely crap. i guess you could argue that the site appearance is kept plain and simple so it doesn't detract from the art submissions... but the truth is probably that the people who make the sites have little to no skill in web design :D

I only posted in this thread so I could kick Markymark in the shins for breaking Evolution's honour code of spelling thread titles fully and correctly! Get to it, pilgram.

It's classic.
Sytadel - December 2, 2004 03:55 PM (GMT)
Stickied!
Good idea, I've been wanting to do this for a while. But I'm too lazy. Also; let's broaden it to say that this thread is pretty much for anything that is "cool, but merits no discussion." So you can post movies, newspaper articles, whatever.

Sytadel - December 4, 2004 03:14 PM (GMT)
Something cool on Ebaums. A funky beat created entirely in Windows' Sound Recorder, using 5 or so default sounds.
markymark - December 4, 2004 11:15 PM (GMT)
that is freekin genius! wish i could save it...
Manny M - December 7, 2004 11:34 PM (GMT)
Awesomeness. Although i'm shocked that you'd think it was cool Syt. After all, you do hate music with a beat ;)
Sytadel - December 10, 2004 10:23 AM (GMT)
I think the fact that something made in Sound Recorder can be classified as Techno shows exactly why I don't like Techno :P.
Also, all music has a beat. It's just that Techno has an obvious and repetitive beat that even people with no musical talent whatsoever can discern.
markymark - December 14, 2004 08:30 AM (GMT)
hey, the first comp entries are up at bacteria! check it out.
http://kungphu.com/bac/index.phpthe pickings are slim the first time around but hopefully it'll pick up.

"pwn": A typo-deliberate version of own, a slang term that means to dominate. This could also be spelled "0\/\/n3d" or "pwn3d," among other variations. Online video game bullies or "griefers" often use this term.
Oh man, talking about leetspeak in such frank terms is hilarious! :dance3:

Ever wanted to control a NASA satellite and look up close and at hi-res anywhere in America and around the world? Well this program is the next best thing. I managed to zoom right in on the Empire State Building and the London Ferris Wheel. The image is so close and clear that US Government facilities such as the Pentagon have to be blurred out. The program is called
KeyHole and its sponsored by Google. If you have a fast internet connection I'd recommend you give it a whirl.
aids - February 26, 2005 09:16 PM (GMT)
Yes, it used to be independent but Google did an EA and bought it. My connection is slow, I tried a couple of months ago.
[m]averick - February 27, 2005 09:21 AM (GMT)
Did you have to download it to use it? I did and I cancelled out cos I saw toolbar google somewhere in it and didn't want any crap clogging up my browser. Plus I'm downloading a fair bit so it was going heaps slow. 50kb/s. Terrible.
BrotherEstapol - February 27, 2005 10:11 AM (GMT)
Yeah, it's a 3d program that maps a heap of satillite pictures onto the globe. :)
You don't have to install the google tool bar either, it lets you choose. ;)
If you have a decent video card, and broadband, I suggest you get this program, as it's a bloody awesome! :D
My brother and I found our cousin's house in England!! :woot:
~DC - February 27, 2005 10:23 AM (GMT)
Anyway you can have it free longer than 7 days? :P
[DZ] - February 27, 2005 10:30 PM (GMT)
I can get it for 20 bucks. Its a pirated version, but meh!
~DC - February 28, 2005 06:47 AM (GMT)
But it only costs like $27 for the legit version anyway. :P
Pity it doesn't work on Macs... :(
borgster101 - February 28, 2005 10:47 PM (GMT)
 7 bucks, is 7 bucks I suppose.

I usually average around 35kb/s on Limewire, but if I'm downloading at anything less then 150kb/s from the web, then I am majorly cut. Once, at the start of my download, I was downloading at 905kb/s. It was only for like two seconds, but for those two magnificent seconds I felt like masturbating to the brillaince that is high speed ADSL
evO - March 1, 2005 09:22 AM (GMT)
I downloaded at 1.5mb/s once, i almost exploded in my pants. (even if it was only for 2 seconds)

Get yourself cable son. I downloaded a 2.5gig file at the constant speed of 2MB/sec. We've got a 100Mb fibre link coming into work, and I pulled a nice 8MB/sec off that. Now that's some insane speed.
Mykle - March 2, 2005 06:43 AM (GMT)
Yeah Cable truly does own in the speed stakes. I can get an average song in 25 seconds, even off limewire.

Too bad I can't get it. Oh well, ADSL is good enough.
_MetalliX_ - March 4, 2005 11:14 AM (GMT)
I'm have a 1024k connection, and I frequently download at 2mbit.
TrinityJayOne - March 4, 2005 01:25 PM (GMT)
Hot damn I'm getting that program! :woot:
Yesterday I downloaded a 700mb file in 15 mins. :cheese:
[DZ] - March 4, 2005 11:21 PM (GMT)
It takes me half an hour to download one track. Wow! :o 1m s0 l33+!!1!1!
