Well typically you can expect some kind of Metallica mention from me...
Well, Metallica are back on the road again, and guess what....!?
They are now playing Dyers Eve live, which they had never done before due to it being "too hard". Which is why so many people bagged lars thinking he couldnt even play the song properly, but now theyre playing it, and everyone has shut the hell up :P
They are also playing Metal Militia, which they havent played since 1985, and Motorbreath, and I Disappear, and The Wait, and No Leaf Clover, and Holier Than Thou, and Jump in the Fire.....
Ahhh.... Good old Metallica :D
Anyway...
God Forbid, Children of Bodom and HammerFall have also been shaking my pants a fair bit lately. B)

Woody - April 26, 2004 11:39 AM (GMT)
There's nothing illegal about the program as far as I'm aware. If it is I'm sorry. :P
What's your username Gnome?
NismoR34 - April 26, 2004 01:12 PM (GMT)
It's quite ironic that you mentioned Soulseek, I've been meaning to download it this week...

Well, it's another filesharing program, so I thought it may be a bit iffy, but anyhoo. My nickname is Samoth666. Samoth was taken, so I added the most 'metal' number there is ;)
Lordage - April 27, 2004 06:21 AM (GMT)
Gnomey_g, when will you learn. Real Metal... Real Metal is MetallicA. :P
I have started listening to Cradle Of Filth a bit more of late too, 'Her Ghost In The Fog' is currently one of my fave metal songs.
Woody - April 27, 2004 09:43 AM (GMT)
I have all of the first 5 Metallica albums now.
Booyah!
Master of Puppets is easily my favourite, Orion and Welcome Home (Sanitarium) being the best songs. :D

B)
Gnomey_g - April 27, 2004 11:31 AM (GMT)
Has anyone heard much of the new In Flames album? From what I've heard from other people, it sucks ass  I heard one song from it on Full Metal Racket and it's vastly different from their older stuff. I didn't like it :(
tHe LiNk - April 27, 2004 04:55 PM (GMT)
Hey gnomey, did metal hammer have a review of killswitches new album? I've only heard a few songs so far, and at first i didn't like the new lighter style they took (even though they were never always "heavy"), but its growing on me! :D
Gnomey_g - April 27, 2004 05:18 PM (GMT)
Nah, Australia gets issues of Metal Hammer about 2 months after they're released in the UK :(
If you come across the issue I picked up with the CD, you should totally buy it, the CD is a compilation of songs by bands similar to Killswitch.
tHe LiNk - April 27, 2004 05:30 PM (GMT)
Sweet! Also, is anyone else having trouble with soulseek? I've checked their forums and it seems as if the servers have been down all day.

A lot of people like to brand In-Flames' latest stuff as Nu-Metal. Personally I just don't see it. Sure, there are clean vocals and some electronics on some tracks, but I don't see how that suddenly transforms a band into Nu-Metal.
In Flames' new stuff is different, it's not as good as their old stuff but I commend them for attempting to further their music rather than sticking with the same style and taking baby steps in terms of change.
Dude - April 28, 2004 07:33 AM (GMT)
Lately I have been listening to a lot of Tea Party. They aren't that heavy but I swear I could come to those guitar solo's. I suggest you all download The Majestic Song.
If you like that, I can name a lot of other songs for you to get.
Gnomey_g - April 28, 2004 08:13 AM (GMT)
Natrak, have you heard the whole 'In Flames are changing their name to N' Flamez now' thang? I found it kinda funny ;)

I've got it and think it's as good as thier previous work :o
The Coconut King - April 29, 2004 12:00 PM (GMT)
Metallica are good but Kirk Hammett desperately needs to spice up his solos & Hetfield looks like an out of work porno actor.
Good stuff:
Opeth
Yngwie Malmsteen
Cannibal Corpse
Majesty
Nightwish
Dio
Van Halen
System of a Down
Murderdolls
Dir en Grey
Metallica
Iron Maiden
Gnomey_g - April 29, 2004 01:20 PM (GMT)
Any Chimaira fans in the hizzouse? If not, check out the songs 'Pured Hatred' and 'Cleansation'. They're a totally gnarly 'NWOAHM' band. Very aggressive, thrashy metal :D
AmyRose - April 29, 2004 02:42 PM (GMT)
The new Machine Head is the greatest thing I've heard in a long time. Phil Demmel was a godsend to that band.
I also recommend his previous bands, namely Technocracy and Vio-Lence. I haven't gotten around to finding any Torque yet, so if anyone can find something for me, I'd be muchos appreciative!
Other metal I lurve right now:
Avenged Sevenfold... got CDs in the mail today! Woop! Got them sent to my dad's house though, so I'll have to treck over there for them. The pain.
Opeth. I don't think I need to say anything to assure you how great they are, Coco will do that for me.
40 Grit. These guys are relative unknowns but they were AMAZING. They broke up a few months ago and now will never tour here. *cries*. Their first album ("Heads") is a lot more heavy than their second, but their second (and last, ironically titled "Nothing To Remember") is beautiful from beginning to end. Chris Anderson, their guitarist, blossomed between recordings and the guitar work, while not the most technical, is almost drinkable. I love it, baby.
Switchblade. My friend Mat's death metal/thrash band from Sydney. These guys are fucking amazing. They are the tightest live act I've ever seen, they were even better than Skinlab. I saw their first gig (I was one of, like, 10 people, hehe) and they've just gotten better and better. Mat is a powerhouse drummer, Sway's vocals are great and Andrew's guitaring just gets better and better. Ben's a great guy, but his bass gets drowned out in the mix a lot, so I can't really comment on him. They have an offical website address but I can't remember it, so just go to
http://www.geocities.com/piccorules to get to it. They have mp3s for download there.
I've been listening to more punk/alternative inspired stuff lately, but I want to get back into le metal scene. It's my true love. Besides my games, that is. :)
Bands I want to check out/hear more of:
Flesh Mechanic
Soilwork
The Haunted

You do not know how jealous I am of you at the moment. Care to Pm me details of the albums and stuff? Want to burn the Cds' for me? :P
Seriously, ever since Gnome gave me Eternal Rest, I've been hooked on Avenged Sevenfold. They shot up my list of all time favourite bands, and are currently tying with SOAD as my most favourite band ever! Every song Gnomey has given me, of theirs, has been awesome! :)

Gnome man, I gave 'Pure Hatred' a listen, and again, I like what I hear. I want that 'Cleansation' song now! :P Seriously, another band you might have gotten me into...
You're getting good at this. ;)
I've also been getting into Static X quite recently, and so far, I'm loving what I hear. "Kill Your Idols" is an awesome song, and I can't stop listening to it. The same goes for "Control It", "Destroy All" and "Shadow Zone". I also quite like "The Only" which was in NFSU. :) I definately need to hear more of their stuff, so if anyone here listens to Static X, care to give me a list of songs or anything that I need to know about them? :)
Spag - April 30, 2004 04:09 AM (GMT)
I love Static X, there'ye so basic and have no technical skills but they have mean riffs with some techno blending. Awesome stuff.
Soilwork are excellent Amy Rose, check out Spirits of the future sun, Millionflame and Distortion sleep
I also love SOAD and I would say they are the most univerally liked band amongst members of this forum.
Yngwie rocks (although he is on cocky, in love with himself bastard)

All in good time ;) I'll have to send you some Shadows Fall, God Forbid and Atreyu too, I think you'll dig them :D
I picked up Akercockes latest album Choronzon today, I've only listened to the first three tracks so far, very solid Black/Death Metal hybrid. Their vocalist is amazing, he can perform the most gutteral of growls, the most unholy Black Metal shrieks and can also do gnarly chanting kinda clean vocals. He has to be heard to be believed.
A few weeks back the new Machine Head album was easy to find, but now I can't find a copy wyhen I actually want it :(
EDIT: I fucked up the quote thang again. Damn Invision forums
The Coconut King - April 30, 2004 11:20 AM (GMT)
Yngwie deserves to love himself... anyone who practices Bach chops eight hours a day can do anything they want if you ask me :D
I've heard one Avenged Sevenfold song and if it's anything to go by, I really don't know what all the fuss is about. The music got kinda bland & the vocals were just plain awful. That singer sounds like he's trying to shit out his lungs or something.
Gnomey_g - April 30, 2004 11:32 AM (GMT)
Coco, that song you downloaded was from their first album, which is nothing compared to their second. Here's some of their better songs: Eternal Rest, Second Heartbeat, I Won't See You Tonight Part II, Chapter 4, Remenissions, And All Things Will End.
Tonight on Rage the following videos are on:
DEICIDE - Scars Of The Crucifix
MORBID ANGEL - Enshrined By Grace
ANTHRAX - What Doesn't Die

beany gave me 2 avenged sevenfold songs, and from what i've heard they sound very much like a speed metal band :P, but anyway, lately i've been listening to iron maiden quite a lot, and they're now my second favourite band, right after metallica :D

Aye dude, Metal Hammer described their new album as 'neo speed metal', although I know jack about speed metal, I'm guessing it's speedy though ;)
And Nismo, don't worry about it man ;)

Although, who are you exactly?
josh - May 3, 2004 06:52 AM (GMT)
Hey, I just saw the 'knots new video, for 'Duality'
I loved the song but wtf is with the video, it's just all these dudes trashin a house whilst slipknot play the song. Not a bad video, but what with all the mystique surrounding subliminial verses, just thought it would have been a bit avant garde or some shit.
Oh well, the two songs off the album i've heard (Duality and Pulse of the Maggots) are pretty cool and the album looks set to be awesome! I can KNOT wait!
oVerCaffeinated - May 3, 2004 07:00 AM (GMT)
Yer, what ever happened to Slipknot getting darker? Guess that went down the crapper :(
