Title: Manhunt 2 Announced for Wii
borgster101 - February 7, 2007 02:22 AM (GMT)
February 7th 2007 - Rockstar games has today announced Manhunt 2, the sequel to the ultra violent (and banned game in Australia) Manhunt. What is perhaps of most significance is that Rockstar has announced that the game will be released on the PS2, PSP and Wii. This marks the first game from Rockstar for the Wii and for Nintendo home consoles in general.
Previously Rockstar had stated that they didn’t release versions of its popular Grand Theft Auto series on Nintendo's GameCube because they believed the console was targeted to a younger demographic. However with the Wii being a system that appeals to a much broader audience (that includes mature audiences) as well as the console having a very successful launch, it appears that developers have realised an opportunity to make money from Nintendo consoles, which was perhaps not present before. Furthermore games that contain such adult content like Manhunt are typically not offered by Nintendo or its in house developers, thus the support of Rockstar on the Wii brings with it a more broad variety of software which is important in a game consoles long term success.
Manhunt 2 will be available this summer in the United States. An Australian release is not known, and given that the first game was banned, it is likely that the sequel will not be released locally without censorship to satisfy the MA15+ rating.

LOL I remember people saying the same thing when Eternal Darkness was released for the GCN
Nintendo will never be seen to have a "mature" image as long as they have Mario splattered all over the place.
But Manhunt 2 is a step in the right direction, now make an exclusive GTA Wii game Rockstar!

The Reisdent Evil games were a step in the mature direction, any Rockstar game is a step in the immature direction. But hey, that market is fairly big, as proved by the sales of GTA, so it's still good for Nintendo.

Yeah true
It all came from Nintendos earlier days where they censored the SNES version of Mortal Kombat, and even though Nintendo is not the same company anymore that image remains.
Though its all about variety in software in removing a "kiddy image" since all consoles have kids games, the thing about a game like Manhunt is that its such an extreme title (getting banned and all) so its always going to have a stronger impact in the mainstream compared to something like Resident Evil.

I agree with you 100%, unfortunately there are a lot of people that care about image, which is stupid.
But anyway, this game looks good, I saw the teaser trailer, looks very distributing.

I wasn't too much of a fan of the original Manhunt (despite having an 'interest' in things with a sadistic nature), but regardless of that this news is good I think. Although their console choices are a bit on the surprising side, and no I don't just mean it being on the Wii either.
I'm aware of the PS2 still being a platform worth developing for, but even so why the lack of 360 and PS3 releases? Just seems a bit odd that's all, although in a way it might also be a good thing because let's face it. Those of us who are multiconsole gamers and intend on getting this game will get it for the Wii because theoretically, it should look the best on that console. Not to mention the different controls the game will have.
Once again, an interesting (and surprising) piece of news happens within the gaming world.

I think the lack of PS3 and 360 versions at the moment are because of higher development costs and low userbase of PS3 systems. The PS2 has a huge userbase still so it makes sense to still bring the game to that platform, basically its more profitable this way. 360 does have a higher userbase of course, but perhaps Rockstar are content with releasing more cheaper software for now, like Table Tennis to ensure profitability.
As for the Wii version, well the console has similar low development costs, and there seems to be a trend of PS2/Wii multi format games as well as 360/PS3 ones at the moment, also the Wii userbase is increasing rapidly. Also Reggie was in talks with Rockstar to bring GTA to the Wii, and it looks like from that we got Manhunt 2, which when you think about it would suit the Wii controls quite well.
Finally Rockstar have GTA 4 coming to 360 and PS3 and so this may be a means of the company expanding its portfolio to a greater variety of platforms. They might want the "HD debut" to be GTA (their biggest franchise), and Manhunt 2 is coming out mid this year which would be before GTA4.

I played manhunt 1 and loved it, but I only had two problems. 1) Not enough different weapons to exucute people. I mean please think of more exucution weapons. Also let us exucute someone with a firearm i.e a gun, stapler gun and so fourth. 2) More different enimies. I must have seen the same guy like 5 times. Besides those 2 problems it was a great game.

This will probably be banned here, or it will featured modified content. That is why I'm going to import it from Europe. :dance3:
