Title: Franchise Showdown, Week 10:
Machiavelli - January 6, 2007 05:46 AM (GMT)
Both are masterpieces in racing. However, typically, I'm not a biggest racing fan. I've simply always preferred Project Gotham Racing over the sim-heavy Gran Turismo.
borgster101 - January 6, 2007 07:17 AM (GMT)
*awaits Nismo's, lengthy detailed responce* :P
I'm not a fan of the genre and havent played either of the two games in any significant depth to vote this week.
D43M0N - January 6, 2007 09:50 AM (GMT)
PGR was always more...fun than GT.
/backslash - January 6, 2007 10:07 AM (GMT)
GT for me (ony because I owned GT3) but I was never too addicted to either franchises.
sarunas007 - January 6, 2007 12:08 PM (GMT)
I love GT , i got all of them :P
quartz_donkey - January 6, 2007 12:57 PM (GMT)
I say where is Rock and Roll Racing easierly the best racing game ever, so good it didn't need sequels. I say this weeks match up is a farce.
BrotherEstapol - January 6, 2007 12:57 PM (GMT)
I drive a real car. B-)
In other words; NO VOTES FOR YOU!! :hitler:

Estapol's "real" car

:P
I also found DJ Civic's real car too:

I want DJ Civic's car!

Please... previously Elder Scrolls (an RPG) was compared against Final Fantasy (Not an RPG) :P
Anyway I love both but PGR is simply more accessible and more entertaining.
Of course when I feel all simmy I turn to GT.

I thought you would've turned to GTR...
Haven't really much of either series to really state my opinion, even if GT3 was boring to me and PGR was pretty nice on first play through of each game.
Robert - January 7, 2007 05:52 AM (GMT)
PGR all the way, I love pick up and play style racers

Shit yeah! Our cars are awesome! Although Estapol's leaves a trail of....well, shit after it. :P Man I don't remember my rear spoiler being that high tho...
As for the poll, I chose GT because its closer to real life and I enjoy my car in both the real world and in the game. PGR is a lot of fun too and I turn to that when I want an arcade-slide-all-over-place fix.
EDIT: There is a real car with a spoiler almost that big;
NismoR34 - January 8, 2007 05:54 PM (GMT)
Man I love that Escudo.
First and foremost, wouldn't it have been better to compare Gran Turismo to Forza? Granted the two franchises within this 'battle' are both relatively old and have had many installments, but still in terms of playability they are both incomparable.
Anyway, my pick is Gran Turismo. Anyone see that coming? Of course you did, it was a result so predictable that it hit you faster than a speeding train ever could. Or something. Yeah.
Anyway, Gran Turismo is my choice because it nailed a lot of what I wanted from racing games and did so straight from the first game in the series. Being the massive Motorsport freak that I am in real life, having the ability to drive real cars on tracks that actually seemed real (and that's not even mentioning the fact that we did get real tracks to drive on with GT 2 onwards...) was a dream come true to me. It allowed me to essentially mimic a lot of the stuff that I loved about real racing and it also allowed me to experiment a lot as well. Which in turn gave me a different perspective when it came to seeing different things that was happening in real racing.
Project Gotham Racing nails the pick up and play element though, it's easy enough to jump in a car and race around the cities and have a ball. It's got depth to it if you desire to utilise it, it's challenging and very balanced and yeah, it's great fun hooning around the cities busting out that power slide combo for Kudos or whatever. But realistic racing will still win for me, always. I'm someone who can do 50-100 laps on a track and not even notice the time go by (while most would get bored), so yeah real racing (or track based driving) will always win for me and as Gran Turismo features that, it wins for this poll.
Put Forza into the mix though and that's a whole new story...
Was that long enough Borg? :P

I would have expected a bit more actually :P , perhaps if Forza went into the mix, you'd have an essay on your thoughts but still be unable to choose
NismoR34 - January 9, 2007 04:28 PM (GMT)
Oh I would be able to choose, but yeah I would have had more fun if the poll was Forza versus Gran Turismo, or even all three against each other.
Oooh, imagine the fun I could have with that one... ;)
Angra - January 9, 2007 08:16 PM (GMT)
I remember growing up playing Gran Turismo against my dad, so I'm voting for this one.
dave_cool31 - January 11, 2007 05:48 AM (GMT)
I voted Gran Turismo. I agree with Nismo and was thinking it straight away when I saw the poll; it should really be Forza vs. Gran Turismo. PGR and GT are really quite different, but I chose the sim over the arcade racer.
If it was Forza vs. Gran Turismo, there would have been a bit more contest... Although I like the PGR games and I'm still playing PGR 3, I would rather play a sim, and a more immersive game at that, imo. Forza 2's very high on my list of anticipated games, moreso than the next Gran Turismo game, but that's mostly because I'm not getting a PS3...
NismoR34 - January 13, 2007 04:32 PM (GMT)
I on the other hand will be getting a PS3 at some stage and yet I'm still with you, I am looking forward to Forza 2 moreso than I am the next Gran Turismo.
Does that say something? I don't think so, I just think I am feeling that way because let's face it, Gran Turismo 5 is still a long way off yet.
