Title: Franchise Showdown, Week 9:
Machiavelli - December 30, 2006 02:48 AM (GMT)
I justify my choice on this one based on pure entertainment value. If we are talking about sheer fun, about enjoyment, if what you want is to spend hours laughing, fighting, crying and sweating with your friends, I can’t remember any resembling game being better than Mario Kart. In particular 'Super Mario Kart' on the Super Nintendo, it will never get old.
D43M0N - December 30, 2006 02:52 AM (GMT)
How unfair is this going to be. Whoever votes for Crash shall die.
dave_cool31 - December 30, 2006 02:55 AM (GMT)
yessum - I was arguing with a friend about this yesterday, actually (I suggested the idea for the showdown even, cos of that argument) - he was telling me about how he used to play CTR and he thought it was awesome - he really doesn't like Nintendo, either - and I kept telling him that Mario Kart's better; it's the original even.
Especially Mario Kart DS - so awesome a game; but all the Mario Kart games are awesome

There is no contest here :P

It's all dave_cool fault for suggesting it.

Mario Kart for me as well.
Mario Kart has been consistantly fun over its time as a franchise, with perhaps one exception (I don't actually know as it is the only one I haven't played, I'm just going from what I've heard) and it's that reason alone that makes the franchise the best damn Kart racing one out there. Best game in the franchise belonged to Mario Kart Super Circuit for me personally, but then Mario Kart DS came along didn't it? ;)
Anyway, the original Crash Team Racing kicked arse. I loved that when I was younger and while it had nothing on Mario Kart, it was still pretty darn sweet. I'm not one for making comparisons (generally) so I think that helped me enjoy it more as well, but yeah it was sweet. The rest of the games though?
*shudder*
Squato - December 30, 2006 06:36 PM (GMT)
Well there is at least one person who voted for CTR....
D43M0N - December 30, 2006 09:19 PM (GMT)
Where is the bastard? OWN UP!
borgster101 - December 31, 2006 04:38 AM (GMT)

"Hello sir, we have quite the offer for you today. You can either have your own harem of beautiful women for the rest of your life or we can shove this rusty nail through your left nut."

Hmmm, you all know which game I voted for. Its Mario Kart. NOT! :P
Okay, I have the reputation of being a PS fanboy on these boards (and back in the ol' Hyper>> days) but honstly, I didn't vote CTR for that sole reason.
I have spent hundreds of hours playing 4P MK64 with friends and family. Its fun, very very fun. I loved the game, I love Wario. He kicks ass. But I didn't vote for it cos of one little thing... CTR kicks arse when it comes to powersliding. O.M.G.
CTR satisfies a lot when it comes to pulling off awesome powerslides, plus you get the cool X3 boosts. The courses are also very well designed and memorable like the Hot Air Skyway-powersliding heaven, and Oxide Station, Slide Coliseum, Polar Pass, and Dragon Mines, I love 'em all!
CTR rules!
thebigm - January 1, 2007 01:07 AM (GMT)
Hands down Mario Kart for me. Don't think I've actually played CTR though...
Qubert - January 1, 2007 01:15 AM (GMT)
Mario Kart. Nintendo know what they're doing
Nags - January 2, 2007 02:44 AM (GMT)
Mario Kart, That game was my childhood
D43M0N - January 2, 2007 03:01 AM (GMT)
Anyone who votes for CTR should die in a big, deep hole that is filled with nasty things and a particulary bad smell.
Drake - January 2, 2007 04:32 AM (GMT)
Wait...thats me...YOU GO TO HELL YOU GO HELL AND YOU DIE! :P :P
ElPresidente - January 2, 2007 05:30 AM (GMT)
Diddy Kong damnit!
Can't choose that? Oh well. Mario Kart it is. :D

I'll second that...Much more than a Mario Kart clone.
Angra - January 2, 2007 04:19 PM (GMT)
Diddy Kong Racing was awesome! I completely forgot about that game!
Stevorooni - January 2, 2007 11:01 PM (GMT)
Mario Kart... althought I've never played CTR
Mario Kart DS is the best version, followed by Mario Kart Super Circuit on GBA (which I can't find the cartridge for :( ).
Mario Kart Double Dash was ok but got a little nuts with the amount of times you get hit by items, I think they really made a mistake by allowing you to carry multiple sets.
As for the original, and the N64 version I don't have them. That is something I hope to fix with the wii virtual console :D
Oh and Diddy Kong Racing pwns all.
dave_cool31 - January 5, 2007 01:12 AM (GMT)
yeh, I forgot about Diddy Kong Racing, that game was awesome to the max, I hope it gets released on the virtual console, though I won't get my hopes up, what with most of the characters belonging to Microsoft now

I cant see it coming to the VC anytime soon, but oddly enough because of the DS remake not because of anything Microsoft related :P
Jackie - January 5, 2007 04:37 AM (GMT)
Mario Kart owns compared to Crash racing, that game should have never been made.
NismoR34 - January 5, 2007 05:18 PM (GMT)
Speaking of the DS re-release of DKR, is there a set date for that yet? It will be so awesome to return to that game after all these years.
Robert - January 6, 2007 02:29 AM (GMT)
I haven't heard anything. its going to be a must
Nags - January 9, 2007 04:10 AM (GMT)
I have hazy memories of that, Planes? Cars? Banjo...? You could play as Banjo right?
ElPresidente - January 9, 2007 04:17 AM (GMT)
Yes you could.
And Conker too for that matter.
NismoR34 - January 9, 2007 04:48 PM (GMT)
Planes, cars and hovercrafts were the vehicles in DKR, with Diddy Kong, Banjo, Conker and one of the Kremlings (forget his name) being some of the playable Rare characters from other games.
