Same. Except for FFVIII with that scene of Squall and Rinoa on the Ragnarok ship, I think the song 'Eyes on me' did it tbh :P
ElPresidente - December 21, 2006 01:39 AM (GMT)
Oh come on...
Go play Planescape: Torment you heathens! :P
That game definately wins out on emotional punch for me. I'm in tears every time I play it.
Dreamfall also caught me off guard emotionally. Another one I was openly crying about.
The whole scene in the dollshouse between Zoe and Faith at the end. OUCH! HEARTACHE! CRY!
Decman - December 21, 2006 12:00 PM (GMT)
Hey, don't 'oh come on' us Pres!
I suppose the only game that has had a profound emotional impact on me was, like D43MON, Fahrenheit. There's something very stirring about that game, very thought-provoking. But if you're looking for a game that has been tear-jerking for me, well, I haven't found one, but I'm sure that when I do, it'll be one of my favourites.
It's funny: films, music and even the odd book have made me get teary, but never a game.
NismoR34 - December 21, 2006 05:54 PM (GMT)
I haven't cried in any particular moment as far as I can remember, but some games have definitely given me some emotional thoughts and feelings. The aforementioned Fahrenheit, Final Fantasy VIII and Metal Gear to name but a few. Also ICO and Shadow of the Colossus have their emotional moments for sure.
Andy - December 21, 2006 10:10 PM (GMT)
Echo Shadow of the Colossus for the tragic component. The death of each Colossus can only be described as agony, rather than victory. And of course the bond with Agro.
The way he calls desperately for Agro when in battle with a colossus... it's moving.
But "emotional" can also mean stirring. I remember racing through the canals in Half Life 2, rounding each corner and dodging rockets like a man possessed... i kept getting more and more desperate for a moments reprieve. Can that be classified as "emotional"

Oh for sure. I remember taking down that first Colossus, the feeling I had as I watched it fall to the ground was definitely a mixed one. On one hand being the massive fan of beasts (in general) that I am, seeing it fall to the ground like that with the music playing and so on was an almost gut-wrenching feeling. I just took that thing down, it was my fault and now it's on the ground, lying there dead. Such a wonderful beast, down, just like that. I guess in a way you could say that I was feeling guilty as I took it down (and the future Colossi too) and as such it definitely made me sit there in awe for a few minutes.
On the other hand, I was also feeling happy. I just took down one of the Colossi, one of the beasts of this weird and wonderful world that I am supposed to find and take down. I just achieved the death of the first Colossi, progression has been made. So on and so forth. So yeah, I agree with you totally when you say that taking down the Colossi has an emotional sort of impact. It can't really be explained either, you fight the thing and then when you see it go down, then you know what it's like and how you're reacting to it. And Agro? Well what can I say about that fantastic horse? One of the best companions in a game so far, definitely. To see it at the end... In that situation too... One, which in a way, was ultimately unexpected and yet somehow predictable too. That hits you hard too.
Goddamn, talking about this game makes me want to play it again...
Shadow of the Colossus kicks arse.

I love the FF soundtracks. I think I have most, if not all of them.
OCRemix also has great FF tracks.
NismoR34 - December 26, 2006 03:26 PM (GMT)
^ I'll second that statement, there are definitely some sweet Final Fantasy remixes on the site. As for the official soundtracks? Yep, I own them too. :D
Angra - December 26, 2006 10:03 PM (GMT)
I have a few.
Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit) - When Tiffany dies and he's standing at her grave? Oh my god. Also, very early on, when you have to choose between running away from the cop or saving the kid from drowning? That was GOOD.
Metal Gear Solid - I cried when Meryl AND Sniper Wolf died. And don't even talk to me about the massive plot twists at the end. Ask Nags - he was getting texts every 5 minutes of me saying "WTF JUST HAPPENED DUDE"
Final Fantasy VII - I cried multiple times. Especially the infamous scene with Aeris. Oh my god. My tears, they flowed like waterfalls.
D43M0N - December 26, 2006 11:18 PM (GMT)
Meryl isn't meant to die ;)

Otacon's ending is more funny, but the Meryl ending is more 'official'.

I let the kid drown, he shouldn't have been playing around there in the first place :P 'Fahrenheit' (as we aussies call it) was overall a really decent game for me (never made the emotional impact towards myself but there was a great sense of being involved) and reminded me of those 'Choose your own Adventure' books.
It's only a matter of time before we have 'Choose your own storyline' at the cinemas...

Love the Futurama quotes! :D

futurama r0xorz my s0x0rz!
If I ever cried during a game I would take a long hard look at myself.

^ Why, exactly?
You won't be a loser if something (such as a game) emotionally affects you in any way, so what is the problem exactly?

I know, but that was the ending I saw. I bawled.
And God bless Futurama.

Wow, I don't know... I actually haven't beaten that many games the whole way through. Ocarina of Time was really touching when I completed it for the first time. I'm not sure if I cried or not.

That wasn't even a coherent sentence.
I thought of another, Shadow of the Colossus. So. emotional. The ending? I felt my eyes tearing up. My mom came downstairs and goes, "Honey, what's wrong?" and I just kind of whimpered something and pointed to the screen and she goes, "Oh."
She's come to expect that from me now
NismoR34 - January 19, 2007 05:05 PM (GMT)
You know, that was pretty much my reaction but the only difference being that I had no one to show. But hey, I still pointed to the screen in awe (and tears) anyway...
Elusid - January 25, 2007 06:23 AM (GMT)
Well as far as the most emotional scene I would say Yuna's dream in FFX-2 where she and Tidus get shot but as far as a whole game I would say with out a doubt Half Life 2 EP1
Drake - February 7, 2007 03:30 AM (GMT)
I found the tenth to be the most emotionally effective out of the final fantasy games
NismoR34 - February 8, 2007 04:56 PM (GMT)
FFVIII had the biggest emotional impact on me.
Edit: From a Final Fantasy game, I mean. It's not the overall biggest game to emotionally affect me.
sunao-kun16 - February 14, 2007 04:02 AM (GMT)
Final Fantasy VII for sure... when I finally finished I kept on staring blankly at the screen. Just that. And all I could do was. What do you mean it's the end? And what happened to this guy? Or the other one after that...?
So I was happy for the FFVII project with the movie and new games...
