Title: The Official Pies and Doughnuts Thread
Description: *drools*
Inquisitor - December 15, 2006 05:06 AM (GMT)
Yo. I want to get one of them subscription things to Mannings Pies where they deliver pies wholsale to your door every week/month or something. How do I get it? Who do I contact? Is there a website or something, cause I can't find one. :(
In related news, discuss pies.
I used to eat 4in20, but a pieman down the road from me sells Mannings and they're absolutely beautiful.
dave_cool31 - December 15, 2006 05:54 AM (GMT)
such pie delivering services are even available? Why didn't I even know this? there's a bakery called Pie Karlo's not far from my place, they have fantastic pies with chunks of real meat in them! I wish I was eating one right now... And you can get a can of drink for an extra dollar!
You know what else I love - donuts - If this thread was devoted to both pies and donuts, it would be the king of all threads - in fact, can we get a mod or something to change the name if this thread to pies and donuts? ^ _ ^
uughughuuuugh!!
Inquisitor - December 15, 2006 06:44 AM (GMT)
Haha!
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can get boxes of (frozen) pies delivered I think. It's wholesale or something. Straight from the factory.
I went my mates place the other week, and they had mannings pies, like quite a few, but they had to bake em in the oven, so I assume they'd somehow got a hold of a box or something.
dave_cool31 - December 15, 2006 06:54 AM (GMT)
hmmm, that sounds pretty fantastic... Makes me realise how hungry I am... I really want pie followed by donuts, now.
As long as it's a good pie and not the rubbish type frozen pies that we have in the fridge... And I'd like some Choc Lindt iced donuts from Dreamy Donuts... Or anything from Krispy Kreme, but they aren't available in Brisbane, and Dreamy Donuts is the closest thing, especially the choc ones... So good, I wish I was eating one right now...
Seriously, can someone change the thread title to Pies and Donuts?
EDIT: hooray! Now sticky it! :P

I love this thread almost as much as I love both pies and donuts! :D
EDIT: Ok, because I love this thread so much and really want it to stay open, I'm going to try really hard to not get it closed... And here I go!
I'd really like to know some secret recipes - can I recruit some forum ninjas to find out the Krispy Kreme super secret glaze recipe?
For all who are interested, I've read that a basic glaze can be made from confectioner's sugar and water, but I doubt the super awesome glazes, like those of Dreamy Donuts and, I assume, Krispy Kreme, are made of such basic glazes... Also, icing is fantastic, especially when it's delicious Lindt chocolate :dance3:
Discuss.
Inquisitor - December 15, 2006 09:23 AM (GMT)
I've never even heard of Krispy Kreme.. :o
dave_cool31 - December 15, 2006 09:28 AM (GMT)
what? they're like the donut hero among some kind of tribe of subpar donut people... I've only had like one of them one time, but Dreamy Donuts were pretty close; they're like the hero's sidekick that's getting cats out of trees in a different part of the country while spreading deliciousness and making profit at the same time! (Go, Utility Belt!)
_MetalliX_ - December 15, 2006 10:10 AM (GMT)
Haha, you two may as well just talk to each other through MSN.
I'm not a big fan of pies, I'll almost always go for the sausage roll mostly because its easier to eat.
As for Donuts, and more specifically Krispy Kreme donuts, they have to be the biggest business suprise ever! Who would of thought a restaraunt devoted completely to donuts could be so successful especially after the latest healthy changes amongst fast food outlets.
As for the donuts -- yeh they are nice but I don't think they warrant the mass hysteria they are getting, or at least which they had in the past.
Inquisitor - December 15, 2006 10:26 AM (GMT)
WHAT! A DONUT RESTURANT?? omfg. I'm so there.
And M dog you disappoint me... sausage rolls are for girls.
dave_cool31 - December 15, 2006 11:19 AM (GMT)
What do you mean? "WHAT! A DONUT RESTURANT??" Haven't you even heard of places like Donut King and whatnot? There's many a shop that specialises in donuts, I have to insist that Dreamy Donuts is probably the best in Queensland, but Krispy Kremes would probably be the best in Australia, possibly in the world (I don't think they have any stores in Brisbane - only NSW, to the best of my knowledge...), dang it I haven't had donuts for ages...
EDIT: I'm wondering why this thread isn't 48 pages long by now - I mean, who doesn't love pies and donuts!?

Sausage rolls rule! Except for those spinach ones, bleaugh!
*looks for puking emoticon but can't find it*
As Metallix said I go for them because they're easier to eat and less messy. It's one of the few foods you can eat whilst walking at the same time
My mum makes the best meat pies ever but after copying her recipe and trying it for myself it came out nowhere near as good. You'd think that by using the same ingredients you'd get something that roughly tastes the same.
What's with the americanise spelling anyway people? Do-nuts?! It's doughnuts! It's pretty stupid changing the name in the first place anyway but I like to sound less american. I love don-doughnuts but after eating about 6 in one sitting I'd be left feeling pretty sick. At my workplace we used to sell a 6 pack of iced dougnuts for something like $2.50, anyway, our bakery would always make too many so towards the end of the day they'd reduce the price to $0.50. Surprisingly my 5% discount made it go down to $0.47 before rounding off to $0.45! Cheapest meal ever.
But since our workplace opened at 7.30am, the doughnuts were no longer warm (microwaves only makes me feel more sick) and some of the icing had melted. They expire the next day too so you're basically forced to finish them off before midnight. I even bought some 12 pack cinnamon doughnuts for the same price which currently stands as my biggest doughnut serve in 1 sitting ever.
The best part was that I even got to work in our bakery section for my traineeship! So in the morning I got to make everything and eat all the deformed ones with no holes in it, right next to me there was this huge barrel full of sugar and you could indulge yourself as much as you wanted to :D (As long as you continued working)

:woot: wow! sign me up, I want that job.
I want it! :ph43r:

I was even asked to become the manager of the bakery department (since one of our managers was doing both the deli & bakery) but surprisingly I said "No". I'm pretty sure I declined because of the 5am starts and constantly being contacted. The pay was only about an extra $50pw too

Oh.. I've got Donut King.. I thought by resturant he meant a proper restuarant specialising in donuts.. like where you sit down and get orders taken.. THAT would own. :D

Well the one in Canberra is more like say...an ice cream parlor, there's places to sit down and stuff(within the store...it's not in a food court or anything) but I don't think that they take orders like a resturant.
Then again, neither do Maccas or KFC. ;)
Actually, that's more like what it is! A small Maccas or KFC! :D
btw, I'm the one who edited the title.(twice now!!)
Resident-Seven - December 16, 2006 12:09 AM (GMT)
Krispy Kreme are ok, but I consider them to be more "sweet bread" than donuts.
Donut King on the other hand, oh god I love them so much, particularly the Pink/Strawberry, Yellow/Passionfruit and Aqua/Mint iced ones.
I don't eats pies anymore though, not since I found plastic in one. :vomit:
dave_cool31 - December 16, 2006 01:38 AM (GMT)
Plastic, eh? I reckon it must have been a cheap pie at least?
Bro Estapol gets a gold star! No, wait, two gold stars!
Inquisitor - December 16, 2006 01:41 AM (GMT)
Mmmmm... all this doughnut talk... I feel like a doughnut more than a Pie atm..
Can you get doughnuts wholesale delivered? >_>
dave_cool31 - December 16, 2006 01:45 AM (GMT)
I wonder... That would be fantastic to a degree which I cannot even begin to fathom.
I'm pretty sure, however, that most doughnut shops like Dreamy Donuts make their donuts at the place, or fry them there or whatever, so they're hot, fresh and delicious when you buy them, so I imagine that even if you could buy them wholesale, they'd probably not be as fresh as buying them from the doughnut stall place thing...
_MetalliX_ - December 16, 2006 01:57 AM (GMT)
They brought some Krispy Kreme donuts into work today, too make a long story short I feel very ill right now...
dave_cool31 - December 16, 2006 02:08 AM (GMT)
:whatthe: dammit. I wish I worked at a place that brought Krispy Kreme's and let me eat them 'til I felt sick...
So where's the rest of them doughnuts that you surely didn't eat? :shady:
Inquisitor - December 16, 2006 02:10 AM (GMT)
My friend used to work at Doughnut King, and she brought me left over doughnuts once, and they were so good! Free, too!
dave_cool31 - December 16, 2006 02:13 AM (GMT)
Oh man, that's even better than working at a place that gives you doughnuts - not working at all and having a friend (who's also a girl) who works at a place where she gets doughnuts and gives them to you. For free!
Inquisitor - December 16, 2006 02:21 AM (GMT)
Now replace 'doughnuts' with 'pies' and you're talking. >_>
I've got a friend coming up from Melbourne soon and I've asked her to bring some Krispy Kreme doughnuts up. :D
dave_cool31 - December 16, 2006 02:23 AM (GMT)
sweet - is that because I was all like "Krispy Kremes are awesome" and whatnot? And also, I think what you meant to say is "now replace 'doughnuts' with 'pies and doughnuts' and you're talking"
Inquisitor - December 16, 2006 02:34 AM (GMT)
Yeah it's cause you said that. And also, get this, she mentioned Krispy Kreme!! Like, we're talkin just then right, on msn, and I said something like my friend used to work at DK, then she goes OHH KRISPY KREME ARE SOOO GOOD!
This is like right after you said how good they were. And everyone else is saying it too.
dave_cool31 - December 16, 2006 02:36 AM (GMT)
can you email me some when she gives them to you? :whistling:
I haven't had them for ages (Really, I've only ever had like one, but it was like a year ago...)
Inquisitor - December 16, 2006 02:50 AM (GMT)
What makes them so good, though?
dave_cool31 - December 16, 2006 03:14 AM (GMT)
I can't remember - they just are - I think it was the general deliciousness

I heard from a customer complaint that she once found a cockroach in one of the 'Big Bens' pies. And when she contacted the company, they offered her more pies but she declined
-------------
So dave&inquisitor, how's that msn conversation going eh? :P
Inquisitor - December 16, 2006 06:19 AM (GMT)
Hahaahaha I'd take free pies any day!
Resident-Seven - December 16, 2006 11:04 PM (GMT)
Thankfully what I found in mine wasn't alive at some point. :D
I think the Krispy Kreme glazes have drugs in them. They don't have the best taste, but damn they are addictive.
dave_cool31 - December 17, 2006 12:07 PM (GMT)
During my lunch break (and preceding my lunch break) from work today I really felt like a doughnut, so I got one from Donut King (the only doughnut vendor available at the time) - yes, just one - I queried the doughnut vending lady as to the morality of buying doughnuts in singles and the extent to which it was some form of doughnut heresy - we agreed that it was not, but just to be safe I bought a doughnut in the shape of a dinosaur... You know... To protect me from like... Doughnut demons or something.
Anyway. A wholeheartedly enjoyable experience, really, and the dinosaur inspired me, too. Gave me ideas and what not - the power (and deliciousness) of doughnut dinosaurs (imagination? bah; all you need is some sweet doughnut dinosaur love for brain happenings! Admittedly, an imagination really helps).
Inquisitor - December 17, 2006 01:11 PM (GMT)
Best.Donut (sick of spelling it the proper way) Story.Ever.
dave_cool31 - December 17, 2006 01:33 PM (GMT)
I'm glad you enjoyed it - now I'd better not see you stealing my dinosaur-doughnut inspired idea which I haven't yet posted but will proceed to now...
So as I began to eat my doughnut, I noticed that it had a smartie (choc thing) for an eye, making it look startled. So I started idea-ising in my brain as to the possibility and repercussions of doughnuts actually being living creatures. That is to say, I was imagining it (the doughnut) being all like "argh, I'm being eaten but I can't do anything about it so I'll just look startled and be delicious!"
So anyways I'm still figuring with the logistics of this undoubtedly award winning story idea, but it would most assuredly have something to do with a secret doughnut habitat (possibly an island) on which doughnuts thrive, but are then taken, paralysed and advertised as delicious treats as part of a giant conspirancy of some sort. so if I see any kind of story about living doughnuts or any such, I'll be looking very angrily in whoever it was's direction. You've been warned.
EDIT: I love this thread
Inquisitor - December 17, 2006 02:32 PM (GMT)
omg. That is awesome! We should hand it over to Film Guru dog for his next animated series idea... omg. We're on a roll!
NOT ACTUALLY AN EDIT: I also love this thread.
dave_cool31 - December 17, 2006 11:34 PM (GMT)
thankyou, I thought it was pretty good, I haven't had a brilliant idea like that for a while... I don't seem to get many good ideas during the year, though, only usually when I'm on school holidays (actually, last year I did, but not in grade 11 cos I was all like "zargh, teh pressure!") but now I'm having ideas in teh brain which is fun.
I'm considering writing maybe a short story about that idea or something, I'll see how that pans out...

anyone remember the simpsons episode were the doughnuts ran out and they had a doughnut delivery guy protecting his van with a rusty chain
