December 14th, 2006 Nintendo Australia's head of PR Vispi Bhopti has announced that in its first four days of availablity Nintendo's Wii console has sold 32,901 units, making the Wii the biggest console launch in Australian history. The previous record holder was the Xbox 360, with 30,000 units sold.

Since the launch of the GameCube back in May 2002, each subsequent game console launched in Australia broke the previous record of launch sales, and it appears that the trend has continued with the Wii.

The Wii launch was clearly a great success in Australia (as well as around the world) and now its up to Nintendo to continue this momentum in the coming months after launch and beyond.

I don't know how accurate that data is. You can't use a figure for the Wii which is accurate to a single console, and then compare that to a figure for the Xbox which appears to be rounded to the nearest 10,000.

yeh I was wondering about the 360's rounding, but I don't doubt that Wii outsold it by at least a thousand units

This says that the 360 sold 30,421 in four days and that the Wii sold 32,901 in four days. Yay.

Regardless it appears the Wii has broken the record, which is in line with the trend in Australia.

Even so i still cant see the wii outselling a console console in the long run, i think there's alot of curiousity going on about the wii. For example my friend bought one to see what all the fuss is about and then returned it for a 360

well your friend, sir, is a buffoon! :P

Agreed. It doesn't even sound like he knew what he was buying either

"What's this thing? Some kind of tv remote? Howcome it's not changing my channels?! I WANT TO CHANGE CHANNELS! And why won't it play my 'Sex & the City' DVDS?! Stuff this, I'm taking it back"

---------------

I'd be interested to see how well the sales go for the Wii in the next 6 months

where are all these new people coming from? I have nothing to say related to the topic, but I'm just curious; I've seen about three new users today :ph43r: not that that's a bad thing...
