Title: Xbox IGN says Halo franchise > Mario franchise

Still, great games those Marios. Don't get me wrong. It is among the best franhises ever, it it's not the best. But there are a lot of people that would take three Halo titles over 100 Mario titles. For this reason, you have to at least throw Halo on the list, if not in the top 10 of best gaming franchises. |

The article is basically a whinge from the Xbox editor because Halo didnt make their "top game franchise" list :rolleyes: immature really.
Obviously if you're going to make a "top franchise list" in gaming history the games that are going to make the cut are going to be ones that have been around for a while, have re-invented genres and continue to be the prime examples of excellent videogames, Halo is such a new franchise of course it wont make the cut.
Whats the point of these "top gaming lists" anyway, they dont mean anything.

5. The quality of that article is poor.
While I think Halo is pretty damn awesome, I hardly think that it 're-invented' the genre. The same goes for GoldenEye. I can safely say that I have enjoyed the Mario games more than the Halo series.

Considering Mario spearheaded the 3D platformer (although Jumping Flash was the first) in such a way that it is mimicked (although never truly beaten IMO) by hundreds of other products... i think Mario is a greater franchise than Halo.
Halo was great, yes, but it can be surmised with "Quake, with vehicles, open spaces, and you can only carry two weapons"
But the argument about mario not having a "story", and the abstract content of mushrooms and the like is pure drivel. Mario and Halo are two different beasts. Although... i have an opinion as to which franchise is going to date the quickest out of those two...
The excerpt above reeks of red-neck, mainstream, close-minded, "but it don't got no blood n guts ah h'yuck", instant gratification toolery.
