Title: When did you get your first Playstation?

Drake - December 7, 2006 04:18 AM (GMT)
I want to say I got mine in Christmas of 1997... I remember renting a Playstation and FFVII because I bought into the hype (I did thoroughly enjoy it, too, so that's not a knock). But when I asked my mum she just laughed at me because they were expensive as back then, I ended up getting it the next christmas after a price drop. I convinced my parents with "IT DOUBLES AS A CD PLAYER"!

_MetalliX_ - December 7, 2006 05:34 AM (GMT)
I don't know when I got mine, aaaaaaaagggggggeeeessss ago now. But like with all my consoles it was a Christmas present. My cousin got his the same Christmas and I remember watching him finish Metal Gear Solid one afternoon from start to finish.

Umm...soon after the pricedrop to $400. I don't think I had any games to go with it though after the initial purchase, I think I just had that demo disc with Xtreme Games that had bikeriding and some kind of bobsled skateboarding thing as well as Reloaded & Jumping Flash. They were only demos but they were the best damn demos ever! Tons of replay value.

I'm pretty sure my first game purchase was Ridge Racer Revolution followed closely by Resident Evil. Ahh, that takes me back... *daydreams*

Unfortunately I ended up selling it BEFORE FFVII&VIII, luckily it came out on PC eventually

Like most people I also can't remember the year I got the console but it was definitely ages ago.

I ended up selling my SNES (thankfully to a friend so that is how I was able to eventually get my SNES back) so I could get the money for the console. First games were Gran Turismo and Colin McRae Rally as I knew that I wanted both of them after playing them on friends' consoles. Loooonng time ago now.

December 1996...or was it 1997? I got Crash Bandicoot, Tekken II (which I asked my dad to take back to the shop because I was too young...yes, I was strange child) and Rage Racer. God, that was a bloody cool game. Raaaaaaaaaaaaaage racccerrrrrrrr!

BrotherEstapol - December 7, 2006 11:20 PM (GMT)
Oh I never got one...if I wasn't so stubborn about getting an N64 I would have had PS1 since my Dad and Brother really wanted me to get one since we could get it modded and thus get realy cheap games.
But I got my N64(Jan 98), and I don't regret it one bit. B-)

Though my brother got a PS1 eventually(2000 I think), and I did play ALOT of Tony Hawk on that thing.

Oh I never got one....

Same for me, and I have played the Tony Hawk games a fair bit as well, through relatives PS1.

I got mine in like 2000 when they were just getting really cheap. Tony Hawk ruled the earth

NismoR34 - December 8, 2006 05:33 PM (GMT)
Put me down for another Tony Hawk fan back in the PSX days. Damn those were some good times.

Angra - December 11, 2006 01:49 PM (GMT)
My dadday got one for me. I was still REALLY young back then, but I played Final Fantasy 7 and Spyro the Dragon. I remember when I would stay at my dad's apartment, he'd ask me to bring the PlayStation and I'd end up watching him play a deep sea bass fishing game. I love my dad

...

OHGODOWNED.

Couldn't resist. Anyway, on topic, my dad actually found the Playstation 1! Hoorah! He called me on Christmas and said he got two PS3's, one from his wife and one from his mother-in-law. He goes, "Oh, but you said they suck, right? I'll just put the other one on Ebay." I started to freak out, and he goes, "I'm kidding, I didn't get any."

THANKS, DAD.

I've played on a Playstation, but never actually had one of my own :( I WANT A PLAYSTATION.

sarunas007 - July 24, 2007 07:12 PM (GMT)
Well i still got a Playstation, enjoy playing some of the classics of PS on it :)

Asguarde - August 5, 2007 11:47 AM (GMT)
I don't remember. I got it for Christmas from my uncle one year, though my older brother already had one.

BRJC - August 17, 2007 01:23 PM (GMT)
I don't remember what year, but i got one from my uncle, and it lasted about 6 months. never bought a console since, up until May this year, it was a Wii.

Stevorooni - August 17, 2007 01:58 PM (GMT)
I didn't get the first Playstation until the PSOne came out.

I had bought an N64 for that generation but my brother had a Playstation which I used. When the PSOne came out later I decided to grab one so I could have my own playstation.

PSOne? Came out after the Playstation?

Please explain what the difference is to me, because I don't know.

The original Playstation, was shortened to PSX

Then a few years later they redesigned it into a better package, called the PSOne. (Which I bought for around $200 I think)

A couple of generations later, the original Playstation in general is referred to just as PSOne to save confusion

That redesign looks freakin awesome though, much better than the original. I still use the controller as a 2nd controller on my PS2 because I never bothered buying a 2nd proper PS2 controller :P

Asguarde - August 17, 2007 11:32 PM (GMT)
You call that a better design?
I like the original better.

NismoR34 - August 21, 2007 07:05 PM (GMT)
Nah I prefer the newer design too, it's just a more appealing design when setup in your gaming setup.

Trust me, I know. ;)

You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but by saying "nah", you make it seem as if your opinion is right and mine is wrong. <_<

FreakTrigger - August 21, 2007 11:53 PM (GMT)
The newer one was quite noticably smaller, but that boxy charm of the original was endless - I like the geometric shape.

Machiavelli - August 22, 2007 06:47 AM (GMT)
I prefer the original design as well, the new design is too cutesy for me.

Regarding the original question, Christmas '95 if I remember correctly. I was twelve at the time and I knew begging my parents wouldn't be enough this time (it worked like a charm with my Snes). So I started caddying for this old golf dude every weekend at a local course, in the end I saved roughly $600. This left around $250 to be payed when you include a couple of games, my parents where pretty impressed with what I had done and happily chipped in the rest. :)
