Title: Xbox 360 Case Mods

_MetalliX_ - November 29, 2006 07:12 AM (GMT)
Well it seems (and they have been done since the 360 first came out) that modding the case of your Xbox 360 (similar to PC) is the newest craze amongst gamers. Would you consider doing this, or have you already done it?

Here are two of the latest to have hit the net:

Gears of War Case:

Pretty "meh" imo, what happens when you get bored of that particular game? It seems that rather than actually trying to mod something original which is what most people do with their PCs, others target a specific game and once you get sick of it you'll be digging yourself a bigger hole in your pocket.

I wouldn't consider touching my PS2 unless I could make it smaller (like getting rid of that stupid expansion slot!)

_MetalliX_ - November 29, 2006 07:26 AM (GMT)
Well it depends really, for example if I had a Halo case mod, I could assure you I would still like it to this day. :P

Hardly a new craze, you should see the amount of original xboxes that have been modded. ;)

I agree with slashy, in that moding your Xbox or any console to reflect a certain game is kind of pointless. I'd feel like I cant play any other game on the system :P

Friend: "Hey I just bought this X360 game but my console is being used by my brother at the moment, can I play it on yours?"
Modding person: "What are you, crazy?! Can't you see that I've modded my console specifically for Gears of War! No other game can be played on it! Not now, not ever!"

I'm really liking that Gears of War case, what price range are we talking here? If it weren't so time consuming I'd consider creating my own. The furthest I've gone is I buying a funky skin for my Xbox which looked average at best.

NismoR34 - November 29, 2006 05:09 PM (GMT)
Yeah despite it being pretty pointless the Gears of War mod is nicely done. Also like Mach above me, I also have a skin but for the Gamecube. It's a Resident Evil 4 skin and it looks reasonably cool. Skins are about as far as I'd go, I think.

I love the HL2 case. Very sleek imo. The GoW case also looks great, specially with the red LEDs.
If it doesn't void my warranty, I'll do it.

Just thought I'd point out this mod DZ posted way back in the xbox 360 thread. I'd definately go with this mod, its so cool with all the controllers illuminated and such. Its a great package.

Tempting.

Though many of you will think me stupid, or lame for buying one, but I've ordered a woodgrain faceplate for my 360. :P

Mad retro! :yammer:

DJ-Civic - December 2, 2006 04:11 PM (GMT)
Actually, your black case mod is lamer than the wood grain faceplate. :P
That would look interesting on mine as the grain effect is sorta similar to my TV unit.

NismoR34 - December 2, 2006 06:07 PM (GMT)
I want that blue one NOW.

How's the black look lame? It's totally teh sex! :P
Looks alot better than the 60gb PS3...who's idea was it to have that horrible silver panel on the front?
Cheapens the whole system's look if you ask me.

Neo.Sanity - December 3, 2006 03:30 AM (GMT)
Coincidently I was talking to someone about this a couple of days ago. On the feeability test is got a 3 (10 being it could surly be done), we'd need to remove the case, airbrush what we want on it. Then you need to treat the pain so it doesn't crack or peel under heat.
Then assemble it all and hope to God that it all works.

For something so pointless it really isn't worth it.

Only problem is, someone might mistake it for another kitchen appliance

Yeah I've seen those. Anyone know where I can order one? Wouldn't mind giving it a test run.

Here's one spiffy-looking case mod. I don't know how he did it, but it looks sweet.

Qubert - December 9, 2006 05:53 AM (GMT)
how do you buy these, i want that halo 3 one badly

_MetalliX_ - December 9, 2006 06:06 AM (GMT)
You can't as they are all custom jobs, but I could see a business in this.

I want to get the old school hot-rod flames in black on my Xbox 360 controller.

That'd be awesome and not impossible to do.
