Title: Upcoming Game-Movies
Description: mixed emotions
Decman - November 3, 2006 01:59 PM (GMT)
Here are a few of our favourite (well, not all of them) games that are being converted into films. Make it stop! Some of them are going to be abominations, but Splinter Cell, Halo and Hitman may well be very cool. Memo to self: crappy German director Uwe Boll, is taking over the planet.
American McGee's Alice
ETA - 2007, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as Alice.
Carmen Sandiego
No official information. Rumoured to be released in 2007-2008.
Castlevania
Directed by Paul S.W. Anderson, the director of the older MK films and also Alien vs. Predator. Production started mid-2006.
Clock Tower
Directed by Jorge Olguín. Based on the events of Clock Tower 3. Production began recently.
Far Cry
Directed by...Uwe Boll, that great...German director. No ETA. Boll famously challenged journalists who bad-mouthed his BloodRayne film to a boxing match. Shame to see a great franchise in the toilet bowl already.
Fear Effect
Rumoured to be either directed by Uwe Boll or Chinese director, Stanley Tong. ETA, 2008.
Gears of War
ETA, 2009. More details in the portal!
Halo
Check this forum's Halo thread. ;) Production postponed this month. ETA, 2008. Directed by Neill Blomkamp, with executive producer, Peter Jackson.
Hitman
ETA, 2007. No announced director, but starring Vin Diesel as Agent 47.
Hunter: The Reckoning
ETA, 2007. Not much in the way of details. Our German friend, Uwe Boll planned on being the director, but that's all changed.
Max Payne
ETA, 2007. Max rumoured to be either Erwin Zagura or Dean Winters. One of the writers includes Shawn Ryan, responsible for The Shield and The Unit TV series.
Mortal Kombat: Devastation
ETA, 2007-2008. No official details, but Chris Lambert (Raiden) is rumoured to be featuring again.
Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time
ETA, 2007. Walt Disney...no it's not animated, fear not. The film is being written by Jordan Mechner, who designed the video game, and Jeffrey Nachmanoff.
Resident Evil: Extinction
ETA, 2007. It's got Ashanti in it...w00t. <_<
Splinter Cell
ETA, 2008-2010. Tom Clancy is on the team as well as a script-writer responsible for The Manchurian Candidate and The Sum Of All Fears. No cast or director announced.
Spy Hunter: Nowhere To Run
ETA, unknown. Starring The Rock. Whoopee.
Street Fighter
ETA, 2007-2008, to co-incide with SF's 20th anniversary. The film is rumoured to be based more on the actual game than anything else, with a strong emphasis on character Chun-Li...hold on to your butts...Holly Valance being Chun-Li...
Tekken
Directed by Charles Stone III. ETA, unknown. This man brought you that advert everyone loves to hate:"WAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZUP!!!" Oh yes.

That took a while :P. Share your thoughts ladies and gents!

Wasn't Carmen Sandiago a cartoon before the games?

I'm not sure, they were before my time. But I'm pretty sure they were around the same time...?

Are you being sarcastic? :P
American McGee's Alice, Halo, Splinter Cell, Max Payne & Prince of Persia have the potential to be cool. If Max Payne was picked up by Frank Miller and turned into something similar to Sin City, I'd be sold.
Everything else sounds pretty crap
Neo.Sanity - November 4, 2006 12:32 PM (GMT)
Uwe Boll...With a name like that you would've thought he would have picked a different screen name.
Never heard of him. Is he another one of these people who are constantly at war with videogamers everywhere?

You can't actually be serious. *explodes*
Vin Diesel as Agent 47 = Win.
Hitman, Max Payne, Halo, Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia have the potential to be good. Most of the rest are pretty much screwed due to their directors and/or actors.

Slashy, I'd see Boll hung. :D Uwe Boll is a fanatic for turning games into films. Unfortunately, he's a shit director, so us gamers are pretty screwed. He directed BloodRayne and Alone In The Dark which were total box-office flops. Apparently, Uwe Boll wanted to direct a Metal Gear Solid film, but Hideo replied something along the lines of 'no fucking way'! Good man Kojima-san!
And yes, Holly Valance as Chun Li. Shoot me.

I don't agree with you. Vin doesn't match 47's physique (the skin complexion and age) and he's also a prick. He's got this stupid look on his face when he's mad unlike 47's cold, pale stare. I love the Hitman games, I love Agent 47's hard character and his class. Diesel's a loser, not a hitman. I hope they find someone else, doesn't need to be a Hollywood hotshot. :( Stupid idiots! Stupid Vin Diesel!
Cubeoid - November 5, 2006 05:50 AM (GMT)
If Vin Diesel channels his performance from Pitch Black then he'd would make a great Agent 47 I reckon. However, yes pretty much every single movie he has been in since then has been shite and involved him doing shite acting. Maybe you're right...
Still, it could work well. <_<

John Malkovich for Agent 47... in my opinion. BUt Malkovich would have to turn down his trademark sharp iciness. But Malkovich probably wouldn't touch the role with a ten foot clown-pole.
Halo looks good, insofar that it has a director who revels in making things "epic". I think a franchise such as Halo needs the epic treatment.
Why we need another street fighter is anyone's guess. Why Holly Valance is Chun Li is another question mark. There are maybe dozens of Chinese actors who are familiar with the martial arts movie. In the famous words of Kitty Flanagan, "Holly Valance? Valance? Even her name is something you just throw on the bed..."
I think kojima wants to direct the MGS movie himself...
Decman - November 6, 2006 12:48 PM (GMT)
Hideo should, but I don't think he will somehow.
Angra - November 6, 2006 05:11 PM (GMT)
I'm PISSED that they cast Sarah Michelle fucking Gellar as Alice. I was completely psyched for that movie but I CANNOT see her doing a good job as that role. I really hope they don't fuck up any more with that game. It was brilliant.
NismoR34 - November 6, 2006 05:12 PM (GMT)
Shotgun David Hayter being Snake.
Decman - November 6, 2006 06:10 PM (GMT)
Don't kill me, but I think Liv Tyler would make a good Alice.
Andy - November 7, 2006 12:27 AM (GMT)
Alice
Christina Ricci?
Scarlet Johansson (but with dark hair)?
diddykong - November 7, 2006 02:22 AM (GMT)
Scarlet Johansson for the win! Out of that list castlevania is my most anticipated imagine it! :D
Decman - November 7, 2006 08:41 PM (GMT)
Yes. I can imagine it being some crappy horror-flick that no one will enjoy.
Decman - May 5, 2007 09:35 AM (GMT)
I'd thought I'd give this topic a hearty bump because of the recent annoucement of a Gears of War movie. I still want Halo.
Angra - May 5, 2007 02:10 PM (GMT)
Liv Tyler's too...awesome to be Alice. She's too big and intimidating. Scarlet Johansson with dark hair? YES PLEASE.
Random Hero - May 7, 2007 06:36 AM (GMT)
What story is the halo movie going to follow? is it going to follow the game first or the book? i just started reading the book and im only on pg 120 and i think they should make the book first. i just like how this starts off and tells the story first rather than have all the climactic scenes and then the origon.
and id like to see the part where 117 kills the three fellow trainees, and when they do the capture the flag mission against the soldiers in the old battle armor.
Decman - May 7, 2007 12:19 PM (GMT)
I'd say it'll be based on the game, as that'll have been played more than the book has been read. Even then, expect the director to take some sort of artistic license.

What about Jason Statham? I'd hi... I mean, watch it. ;)
Decman - May 7, 2007 06:03 PM (GMT)
LOL, R7, control yourself! :D
As for Vin Diesel, well it's obvious that the only reason Hollywood picked him for Agent 47 is because he's bald. :P
DZ - May 7, 2007 09:01 PM (GMT)
Statham is balding although I don't think he's a good Agent47.
