Title: Aussie IGN?
Description: when did that happen?

dave_cool31 - October 25, 2006 02:08 AM (GMT)
I just went to ign.com and was redirected to au.ign.com - it seems they've started an australian division or something... So far the prices seem to be still in American, but I've not really checked much of it out yet - Cricket 07 is on the front page :P Anyway anyone know when this happened and details or any such?

Yeah it was announced a while back that since IGN was getting a lot of hits from Australians they decided to make an Aussie version of the site, which is really the same thing with .au at the front :P

Expect Australian related polls coming soon

yeh I heard something about it ages ago, but I didn't even know if they were going to - so stereotypical to have Cricket 07 on the front page :P

^ Patch or Bennet?

It was bound to happen due to Gamespot also having an Australian version of their site - those two will compete until gaming doesn't exist they will. Or something.

But anyway, yeah it's a good thing to have a local site now. Hopefully it translates into a little more content that is local to us, plus of course the main stuff that the main American site brings. I also really, really hope that they give us some local servers for their video content so that the vids download faster - that would be nice.

But yeah, now that both Gamespot and IGN have hit town I really hope sites like PALGN aren't forced to give up or whatever. That would seriously suck.

Good god, Mr Bennet Ring, how the mighty have fallen.
Honestly, what a load of shit. Maybe they'll host some files on Australian servers, though, which will provide an alternative to slow ass AusGamers and crappy "come on in, join the que!" GameArena.

I think there will still be a place for sites like PALGN, they are still a lot more localised than having the .au extension on an American site.

I don't like it. Makes me think I'm missing out on some news for the US market. :/

^ After using it for the past week I'm going to have to say that I agree. There is constant links to the Aussie board and the article about the Australian division now being up and well it just feels as if those links are replacing possible links to other (and probably more important) content.

But yeah, it is still early days yet so I guess we shall see.

You still get all the US content, so in a way we actually get more than the US guys :P .. kind of.

I honestly haven't even the difference, except for an Aussie flag.
