Title: Bully
Description: First thoughts on the game
Angra - October 24, 2006 02:03 PM (GMT)
So I just bought Bully last night, and let me just say first: I love it. Seriously, Rockstar did an amazing job with this game. The first thing that struck me was actually the character animations and the voice acting. The animations are superb and the voice acting is just out of this world. Jimmy's friend Gary definetly does the best job.
The missions are really unique and funny. Right now I'm on an escort mission, and I have to take one of the nerdy kids to his locker to get library books, while protecting him from bullies. Halfway there, the kid goes, "I HAVE TO GOOOO" and you need to get him to a bathroom before he wets himself. I nearly died laughing. And your classes are a lot of fun too. The minigames are challenging without being frustrating, and fun to play ((when I failed one of the English minigames, the teacher said, "Don't worry James, failure is just a natural consequence of trying")).
Now, my gripes. I feel like they don't give you nearly enough time in the day to do missions - time passes way too fast. Also, I feel like there are WAY too many prefects ((basically, student hall monitors)). But these are small compared to the overall game.
Also, JACK THOMPSON, YOU ARE A FUCKING IDIOT, SIR. Probably the worst thing I have done in this game is one of the following:
1. Knocked a kid off a wall with a brick
2. Kicked several prefects in the nuts
3. Gone into the cheerleader's locker room by mistake
or the oh-so-evil
4. Pulled the "stop hitting yourself" move on someone.
Good job fighting the REAL source of crime across America, Jack.
Seriously, that's as bad as it gets. What a fucking dumbass.

For some reason I keep thinking you're from Australia and was going to ask how much you paid for it. But knowing the US prices due to me doing the occasional NTSC imports, it's only $65 (or less) whereas we have to pay $100 (but Kmart is selling the game at an introductory price of $79 for those interested or $75 for people like me with staff discounts)
I heard that one of the problems with the game was that it takes a few hours before you become more attached to the game as the introduction works out as a tutorial, showing you how to do stuff, holding your hand when all you really want to do is start getting to the gritty stuff and learn the things either via the manual or in your own time. But that was only the major gripe reviewers have had with the game, aside from that I've heard it's ace and would love to get it if I wasn't already overloaded with new games crying for attention atm (GTA:Liberty City Stories on the PS2 has only had a couple of hours play and there's an RPG called Xenosaga II which I really want to finish, plus about 4 DS games to beat on top of that)
I've really got to restrain myself. Rest assured if I get enough xmas money (not that I really need xmas money to purchase it as I'm already working) I'll be picking this up in an instant. For now however I can wait. Shame none of my friends have no interest in buying this otherwise I could at least get the jist of it in the meantime. IGN's Video review is decent but it's over too quickly (I'd need an hour of material, not 7 minutes)
Have you managed to score yourself an after-school job yet to purchase clothing/food? Like a paperboy, burger person or a lawnmower person? Or do have to earn reputation first or something?

:lol: LMAO, I'd love to see that in action. But who knows, it could get violent. Isn't it an 18+ (an M or AO? I don't know how your funny rating system works!)? It seems that you might not have experienced the bloodiest.

Over here is rated T or 13+ i believe

Okay, well, the mission I am on now is a panty raid ((yes, you heard me)). I've also smacked a kid with a fire extinguisher. Life is good.
I have not seen ANY blood yet. Seriously.

I'm pretty sure there is no blood in the game at all, it's more like "cartoon violence" from the sounds of it.

I have been thinking about it on and off now for a good fortnight or so and I just can't decide whether I want this game or not. It looks like it will be quite fun and it also looks like it may bring back some childish memories and humour, which isn't a bad thing. It looks fun to play and it's a Rockstar game, so it will be quality.
But, I just don't know. Will I play it all that much if I were to get it? I still have quite a few untouched or barely touched games to play so I wonder if this game would become one of them too. I hate it when I can't decide about a game.

I think you'll play Bully. The missions are very memorable and a lot of fun, and you'll want to keep playing to see what else you have to do.
ANGRA APPROVED!

Bought it today, but I also have some games that need playing first. :(
ElPresidente - November 6, 2006 12:26 AM (GMT)
I have to be honest. While I enjoyed Bully it isn't Rockstars best and more than anything shows that post-Saints Row, Rockstar REALLY need to have a good strong look at their mission design. Saints Row had great variety to the missions where as Bully, like the GTAs, lacks this level of inventiveness. I found Bully's missions, while fun, to be ultimately forgettable.
Returning it today now I've completed the story.

What the hell is with returning before 7 days, I mean do they ever completely sell an average game, why not take it back theroetically you could only buy one game in a lifetime. Surely there is a limit on it???

i know some press was given to the game recently stemmed from some homosexuality thingo. It was written on news.com.au, i think.
Damn conservative media...
