Title: Fight for your Right to Footbag
Description: Not just ripping off a bad song

Beast - October 11, 2006 03:24 PM (GMT)
"Defend Kallen Ford
A young footbag player in Boulder, Kallen Ford, was given a $250 ticket last week for playing "hacky sack" on Pearl Street Mall. Footbag is a type of juggling (obviously, foot juggling instead of hand juggling). Boulder has an explicit exclusion for juggling in the law regarding Pearl Street Mall. However, some idiot cop decided to write a ticket for "releasing projectiles" against this young player -- something obviously entirely wrong in this case. Read the coverage by clicking the link above and then call or write the Boulder Police Department and let them know that you won't stand for this type of injustice. Footbag in all its forms is a safe, athletic discipline, and deserves the same respect as juggling on Pearl Street and around the world." - from www.footbag.org

What you can do:

Send an email Mark R Beckner - Boulder Chief of Police
becknerm@bouldercolorado.gov

Tell him in a polite and reasonable manner that footbag or "hacky sack" should not be a crime and that you disagree with this judgement. I know most of the people on this forum don't actually care about footbag at all, but I'd really appreciate you doing this anyway - it only takes about 3 minutes to write a strongly worded email and if enough people do it it will have a great effect. Defending peoples civil liberties around the world does definitely have an effect on our civil liberties in Australia and even if you don't like playing footbag, if you like hanging out in public places or even listening to music at home, cases like this can lead to a loss of those rights.
