Title: Martial Arts
Description: anyone do any?

Decman - September 30, 2006 10:40 PM (GMT)
Does anyone? I plan on learning ninjitsu, but there are only two dojos in Ireland that teach it and both are quite far off unfortunately. Aswell as that, none will take me until I'm 18, which isn't for another two years and a bit. Shame, but it's the only martial art I've ever considered doing. And a very dangerous one it is too. Very... I've considered aikido, tae kwon do and wu shu a few times, but I think it's ninjitsu for me.

Does anyone else here do a martial art, or have done?

Nope, but I always wanted to. In a way that doesn't involve me ending up in hospital.. My brother did it for a couple of years, got a few belts and received certificates in japanese writing which I thought was pretty cool

Unfortunately he never learned the 'Dragon Punch' or 'Hadouken' move from Street Fighter 2 :P

 Well, if I learn ninjitsu, I simply have to learn the 'Touch Of Death'.

Not really, but I am trained in how to use swords and stuff. Entertaining; especially when I'm cleaning toys with someone at work after the doors are down, and we start on the lightsabers; there's always a challenge :P

I took up karate for around three days and then quit, it was all about respect boo!!!

I currently study Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, and I recently travelled to Japan to train with Hatsumi Sensei. (there are photos of the inside of his dojo in a thread i created about my japan trip)

Ninjutsu is definitely an interesting art, and I've found it interesting applying the philosophies to life and seeing the results.

I'm yet to learn the touch of death :) but the moment i find out, i'll let you know!

EDIT

I think that's an irish dojo for ninjutsu (that's the correct spelling btw... not ninjitsu) :ph43r:

"No, that's not how you do it! Do it like this!"

はい! わかります せんさい! ありがと。

:P Thanks for the info man. Regarding the spelling of our esteemed martial art: yes, I have seen it spelt ninjutsu, but I also have seen it spelt ninjitsu (even on the martial art's websites). But thanks, I'll start saying it ninjutsu...as an がくせい の 日本ーじん, it does sound better. Thanks again for the info on the dojo, I'll look into it. :D

:ph43r: NINJA!

EDIT: I just did. Unfortunately, the nearest dojo is about...150km from me. :( Thanks anyway! But if I do become a student in Dublin, then I'll have a look there, of if I venture back to my home country, England. Or maybe the Land Of The Divines itself?

NO worries, mate. Sorry to hear you're out of reach of a dojo. Bujinkan dojos are in a lot of places though, so maybe we just gotta look deeper? :)

Good luck!

don't lie

Beast - October 11, 2006 05:06 PM (GMT)
You think I don't play freestyle footbag? Or you don't think it's better than martial arts?

On Monday I had about 15 girls standing around watching me and cheering me on. Don't see that happen in martial arts very often... ;)

Decman - October 11, 2006 07:35 PM (GMT)
Yeah, but the girls will be over any martial artist who can backflip off walls or knock someone out with a touch. Oh yeah, the ladies love that shiz.

Andy - October 13, 2006 03:45 AM (GMT)
Chicks dig scars. :P

Actually, footbag is probably better for chicks than martial arts, as it's something that everyone can have a go at.

Footbag does look cool when someone proficient is doing it too.

But i like my martial arts. it gives me a (possibly unfounded) smug sense of superiority.

I wanted to learn Krav Maga, but couldn't find anyone to go with and I didn't want to go by myself.

Decman - October 19, 2006 08:05 PM (GMT)
What's Krav Maga?

Nags - October 19, 2006 10:36 PM (GMT)
As a child i studied Shaolin Kempo

Stevorooni - October 20, 2006 12:29 AM (GMT)
I did Karate for a few months when I was around 12 years old but never really got into it. I did learn to count to 10 in Japanese though, but I've forgotten it now :P
