Description: opinions

Here's the article
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6158816.html

Excerpts from the article:

The game will be set before the original Halo, when the UNSC Marine forces first encountered the Covenant. Gamers will lead the human and Spartan forces of the UNSC's Spirit of Fire as they engange in "all out war" with the Covenant. When asked if the alien forces would be playable, Ensemble would only say "Stay Tuned." The company also confirmed that the trailer was pre-rendered, based on concept art, and not running on the game's engine.

Though longtime PC specialists, Ensemble is building the game from the ground up for the Xbox 360, and promises the controls won't meet the dismal fate of other console RTSes.

Over at the Bungie.net site, the Halo-maker says that the game is "awesome" and already playable. The developer also reports that an HD version of the Halo Wars trailer will be hitting Xbox Live Marketplace soon.

What are your opinions on this? i could really go either way

It's kind of a confusing decision to create a Halo RTS, as Borg already mentioned Bungie scrapped the idea and instead created the game as a FPS and the rest is history. I've never liked the idea of an RTS on anything but a PC as well so I doubt I would be interested in this at all. Even more so is the fact that its not being created by Bungie themselves.

In a related note, there is yet another Halo game in the works. The only logical conclusion is "Halo: The Movie: The Game" which is kind of confusing but the only rational explanation considering the clue Bungie has given us:
QUOTE (Bungie)
...and the as-yet unrevealed Halo project to be made in partnership with Lord of the Rings and King Kong director, Peter Jackson. Both projects are for Xbox 360.

eep breath now. Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, who we’re also working with on the Halo movie, have formed Wingnut Interactive, a video game studio that will capitalize on Peter and Fran’s creative vision, while using the expertise, infrastructure and experience of Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie Studios to get the show on the road.

It’s a partnership we’ve been very excited about for a long time, and one that gives us great pleasure (and no small measure of relief) to announce.

Peter Jackson himself kind of sums up our feelings about the venture, saying, “"Working directly with the Bungie guys to help carve out and reimagine another piece of the Halo game universe is a dream come true. Combining the creative and technical talents of Bungie Studios with the fire and passion of Wingnut Interactive just seems like a great recipe for success and the perfect way to start a new kind of partnership in the video game world. I can't wait."

Wingnut Interactive will be working closely with us to create “another chapter in the Halo universe,” which is a phrase you’ll be hearing a lot and of course, we’re sworn to secrecy.

This raises as many questions as it answers – will it be a sequel? A prequel? A side-story? We won’t squeal, but we can tell you it will be a blend of gameplay and storytelling quite unlike anything the games industry has ever seen before. And Wingnut Interactive isn’t stopping at Halo – the newly formed gaming behemoth will also be working closely with Microsoft to introduce a brand-new gaming IP created by Wingnut themselves.

Gasp! Does this mean Bungie is distracted from Halo 3? No. In fact the Bungie team, now bigger and better than ever, thunders on down the road to completing Halo 3 and will simply not deviate from that path. A few select team members have been chosen to liaise and interface with Wingnut Interactive and in fact, the sharing of ideas and technology with Wingnut Interactive and to some extent, WETA Digital, will likely bring creative benefits to Bungie as we complete our scheduled march to finish and release Halo 3 in 2007. Thanks to careful planning and good use of resources, these new projects have added not one single day to our schedule.

Yeah I just posted this news on the portal, its interesting since Halo started out as a RTS, but went to FPS probably for the better I think most would agree. And having this RTS on a console? Hmm... would work better on PC.

I like the idea that Halo Wars is being built from the ground up, specifically for the Xbox 360. It's not going to be some port of a PC game, it's going to actually be designed to play well on the console. The trailer on the marketplace is incredible.

Honestly, I'm actually more excited about Wingnut's "story driven" Halo-based game. For some reason I keep imagining a mix of Halo and KOTOR.

Didn't a recent Lord of the Rings game prove that RTS can work on the 360? Or is that not out yet?

I'm personally not really a fan of the RTS genre (bit too slow for me) but as always I am willing to make an exception. As this is being developed for the 360 rather than to the 360, there is already a lot of promise behind the game. If they can nail the controls and build upon the Halo franchise in a new and exciting way then all I can say is bring it on. Plus it would be cool to have an all out war between the humans and the Covenant, perhaps the Flood too. But like Mach I am more interested in Jackson's other Halo title...

Hmm so do you mean something like Dues Ex or System Shock? a halofied version of system shock would be excellent, but sounds wayyyy too much like bioshock

BFME2 worked well on the 360...very well. And plus, seeing as that the game is being developed exclusively for MS's new console, then controls are going to be paramount to the team. And the devs happen to be Ensemble, RTS-genre pros. I think the game is good hands, and so far, it looks like they're sticking to Halo lore.
