Title: The Chaser's War on Everything
g1ggy - August 29, 2006 10:21 PM (GMT)
This is just about the best darn show to TV at the moment, and I just got season 1 on DVD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOT
Does anyone else have the DVD, I wanna know what to watch first?
BrotherEstapol - August 30, 2006 10:58 AM (GMT)
The first episode perhaps. :P
I've got all the shows via the beauty of bittorrent, but I'll probably buy the DVDs anyways. :)

They put their episodes available on their website each week for free download don't they?
The show's okay but there's alot of material I'm against, mainly their live stints (moreso with that guy who appeared in court for selling fake weapons at a rugby game) that simply go too far on more than one occasion. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes I feel like punching them
BrotherEstapol - August 30, 2006 01:12 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I agree, some of their live stuff in questionable...mainly cause the people they are doing...whatever to, don't know that they are joking. Like dishing out fines to people for have shit ringtones and wanky number plates...one guy actually gave him $50!!
Though, I do wonder how much of it actually is legit, cause I know some stuff isn't.
For example, Chris asking for a divorce with his "wife" live on Sunrise, that was as setup. As was Lisa Mcuine actually doing all that crap with Chas. :P
Though for the most part, I think their stuff is pure gold.
Squato - August 30, 2006 02:48 PM (GMT)
A few things.
This is not the first season, it is the first part of this season.
The episodes shown on their website can be viewed (all the time), or download the full episode for the week after.
Still, it is a damn good show.
auhsor - August 31, 2006 12:06 AM (GMT)
This show is awesome. Sure some of the content is a bit questionable, but for the most part its very clever. I'd never thought about downloading the torrents. I'm usually out when it's on, so it will be good to see all the ones I missed. I don't like downloading them off the site as it never quite works properly for me.
CNNNN was also awesome. Is this show is a replacement for that, or are they going to do more CNNNN?
Drake - August 31, 2006 07:44 AM (GMT)
these guys are brilliant, anything that goes against the grain of society with humour is genius.
BrotherEstapol - August 31, 2006 08:11 AM (GMT)
I'm pretty sure this is a replacement for CNNNN.

Wouldn't it be easier to just record it?
BrotherEstapol - August 31, 2006 02:25 PM (GMT)
No it wouldn't actually.
When you buy the DVD there's a few things you have to remember compared to burning your own;
Time: Coverting the videos to fit on the DVDs takes ages.
Space: Assuming I use single layer DVDs, I'll be using around double the discs...on the other hand if I use dual layer DVDs, I'd probably use less room.
Price: Assuming you can get the DVD for a decent price, then it's probably cheaper than if you used dual layer DVDs since they are still like $8 per disc.
Features: Don't get special features with the home-brew version.
Quality: Duh, DVD's will be better quality than the TV rips, dispite the fact that they are digital TV grabs, they aren't as good as DVD made from the master footage.
Support: Those guys deverve my money! :P
It's also better having everything in a neat little offical DVD package that sits on your shelf. :D
g1ggy - September 1, 2006 02:04 AM (GMT)
Started watching the DVD and it's really great!!
Aside from the first 13 episods (of which #1 is the best so far :D), there are also a stack of special features, and every single segment on the show.
So far, I've watched all the Osama vides (A jihad on Bas Luhrmann!) and some of the Surprise Spruiker (Come on, come all, get your fair work conditions, they all have to go!).
It's definitly worth getting the DVD; downloading it takes a while, and it doesn't have all the goodies of DVD :D
BrotherEstapol - September 1, 2006 06:47 AM (GMT)
Well I'll go against saying that downloading takes a while...I got 3 episodes in 1 night the other day.(each episode is about 230mb)
But I've already said that I'll be buying the DVD once the full set is out. ;)

I actually meant it would be better to record than download, I wasn't referring to the DVDs.
But anyway.
Time: It only takes about 25 minutes per episode.
Space: You'd be about to get 10 eps on a SL DVD.
Price: $1 would get you enough room for 20 eps.
Quality: Actually, it's the same quality as DVD if you have a tv card. Better still if the show, and ABC broadcast in HD, but they don't.
The other points I agree on.
BrotherEstapol - September 1, 2006 07:33 AM (GMT)
Well the episodes I have are "DVD quality", but like I said, nothing beats DVDs being sourced from the master. ;) (some of the episodes I have, have small bit where it goes all pixely cause the signal has dropped out)
Resident-Seven - September 1, 2006 01:11 PM (GMT)
The 230mb downloaded ones are clear and 1024x576? What kind of magic codec do they use, I seriously need it.

Funny...they are about 70mbs off their website.
Resident-Seven - September 2, 2006 02:26 AM (GMT)
I can just imagine the quality now.
thebigm - September 2, 2006 06:40 AM (GMT)
Definately good stuff this show and well worth watching on TV or downloading through the net.
Also love when they first released the Video Podcast how they said that people would still use Bittorrent for it anyway

According to my HDTV card while I was watching the show last night, it was being broadcast in 720p, which is 1280x720.
1024x576 isn't what DVDs are, DVDs are 720x576, then are streched to a 16:9 aspect ratio, which fits into 1024x576.
Some of the videos are 688x380, and some are 656x368, all are XVID format...everyone uses XVID. ;)
Resident-Seven - September 3, 2006 12:49 AM (GMT)
Yes DVDs are 720x576, but they don't play at that resolution, and SD digital tv is the same.
Your tv card on the other hand is obviously incorrect, as ABC only broadcast in 720x576 (1024x576). The only difference between their HD and SD broadcasts is that one is 576i, and the other 576p. SBS and Channel 7 also do this, which is why I don't consider them to be HD. Channel 10 and 9 on the other hand broadcast HD in 1440x1080i (1920x1080).
BrotherEstapol - September 3, 2006 07:27 AM (GMT)
Fraid to dissapont you, but my TV card never lies...it may have been upscaled from SD (very common), it was being broadcast in 720p on the ABC HD channel, which is always in 720p.(which is 1280x720)
Perhaps your area doesn't have the proper HD channels broadcasting yet...
Random Hero - September 3, 2006 09:03 AM (GMT)
guys stop having your own little war.
BrotherEstapol - September 3, 2006 10:49 AM (GMT)
Why? Heated discussion is good. :)
Most of the time, both people come away more informed on the subject than before they had the discussion. ;)

Other then one that had bad sound, they have been top quality. In fact I would say it is better then what you get most TV's (unless you have HD).
It goes to show that Aunty cares for us and doesn't put out crap (as Aunty Jack will rpi their bloody arm off).
:P
D43M0N - September 3, 2006 08:27 PM (GMT)
I'll be buying the DVD, but I've been downloading the podcasts as of late. I don't mind the quality, it's a comedy show. Why do I need detail so high so I can see their nose hair?
Random Hero - September 4, 2006 04:38 AM (GMT)
didnt realize so many of you were pirates! :P

My bad, I just went and checked mine, and sure enough it's 720p. But in my defence it was 576p only a few months ago, which is why I haven't been watching the HD channels, and the Connect section of the papaer also said that they only broadcast in 576p. A pity channel still use the shitty 576p, could they be any cheaper? Oh, and the SBS, but I don't watch that.
Whether anything on the ABC is actually shot in 720p is another matter though.
Here's a screen cap from an SD episode.
