Well, besides Vista and DX10, I've got higher than the recommended, so I should be fine.

The only video I've seen of this, is the really shit quality one that was on the cover disc of PCPP a couple of months ago.

Robert - August 10, 2006 04:47 AM (GMT)
First i've heard of this, can you post any screenies??

Resident-Seven - August 10, 2006 08:30 AM (GMT)
While they do look great, those people ain't anywhere near photo-real, hell, FMVs still don't look photo-real, or even a lot of big budget movies.

That said, it is definitely a sweet looking game. I'm just trying to imagine those shots in high resolution.

Jiro - August 11, 2006 02:10 AM (GMT)
man u should see the close-ups of there faces, they look real, every face in the game is different. thats about as photo realistic as your gonna get.

/backslash - August 11, 2006 05:48 AM (GMT)
Damn my PC only just passes the minimum requirements! Sounds like a game that's too advanced for today's systems which means you'll have to wait a few years before your computer is even capable of running it smoothly with high details (ala Doom 3)

I've heard alot about this game but I think I'll wait till it becomes a budget title (to go along with my theory) which is exactly what I did with Far Cry (creators of Crysis), purchasing the game for $19.95 only a couple of months ago

And Reisdent Seven, small screenshots never do the game justice for ultra realistic textures, you'll have to wait for a demo or play the full game until you hit Keanu Reeves "woah" factor (taken from The Matrix)

E3 Demo

good little video that shows of the opening parts of the game. it does have some very good ideas for it.

This game is looking quite cool. Let's hope they don't include any Far-Cry-esque gaffes. like those f&*%ing mutants!

Read also, the Flood in Halo

From what i've seen, though, the game is graphically impressive, and the environments look (and react) stunningly.

Completely agree with you there, the mutants ruined Far Cry. All this realism and they add mutants, so disappointing.

Jiro - August 12, 2006 06:59 AM (GMT)
^^ agree with the last two statments. i enjoyed the early portions of the game coz it was all against humans. and in fracry: instincts when u turn into tlike the crazy hybrid animal, abit unessesary.

Face Close-Up

Pretty photo-realistic if you ask me.

Illusion - August 12, 2006 12:15 PM (GMT)
From what I have seen from the Video and Pictures, this game looks simply amazing. Also, I have a small question about the requirements. Do you have to have Windows Vista in order to play this? Sorry, I got confused when looking over the requirements. Thanks in advance. :)

So XP will work fine, but its recommended that you have Vista.

Illusion - August 12, 2006 01:45 PM (GMT)
Ah thank you _MetalliX_ for clearing that up for me! :) I probably wont be getting Vista in a long time anways.

More realistic that other games, yes. But photo realistic?

Oh hush you're being disparaging. Of course it's not going to be 100% photo realistic especially when you consider the limits of current 3D cards

Resident-Seven - August 13, 2006 07:32 PM (GMT)
That was my point, I don't expect to mistake an NPC in a game for a photo of a real human for quite some time.

I never said the game didn't look great, quite the opposite.

Though you have to wonder what the game looks like with the minimum specs, as I doubt even my pc would get the quality of those screens with a decent framerate (at high res anyway).

borgster101 - August 14, 2006 12:28 AM (GMT)
Meh, I dont know what the appeal of photo realistic characters is anyway, when playing an action game like this, I'm not going to be staring at the characters faces saying "OMG this is a real person[/i]" , but rather I'll be actually playing the game and you know shooting stuff :P

When you're moving fast in a game like this, it's all a blur anyway, so having photo realisim seems pointless :P

Andy - August 14, 2006 04:16 AM (GMT)
It's not like you're gonna shoot some guys in the chest, walk up to them, zoom into their face and say "Holy crap! He looks just like me!"

I think for cinematics, realism might have its place, but it's not necessary.

But the graphics do look great. Although I was more impressed with the intricacy of the foliage and how it reacted to your gunfire.

Raven - August 16, 2006 03:11 PM (GMT)
Well, considering that this is the first of heard of Crysis thus far, I think that from what I have seen that the graphics are pretty darn impressive. But my questions about it are, how is the gameplay and storyline?

so how long have you been living in that cave for? :P nah but seriously good to hear you got out hahaha.

anyway, crysis is set on a giant open island, you can go anywhere, big open levels and eveything reacts to everything that can happen. like an updated Far Cary (i hope you have heard about that, or you've been missing out :P)

if you just search around you can find some interesting details. o and go back to page one, i hade a link to and E3 gameplay demo that should help you understand.

Raven - August 18, 2006 06:24 AM (GMT)
Actually I have heard of FarCry, got the demo laying somewhere within the vast confines of my hardrive. I normally play fantasy type RPG's such as Fable and TES III & IV; so that's what I ussually keep track of.

Anyway I'll be sure to check Crysis out.

Texta - August 22, 2006 05:01 AM (GMT)
I'm pretty sure those system requirements are not official. Some crytek fansite posted them up as "estimated sys requirements" or something. So it'll be interesting to see what the real system requirements are like.

But yeah, it is a pretty awesome looking game.

The plot is that a meteor hits an island in the pacific and you lead a team of marines to examine it, but the North Koreans get there first and so the first part of the game is battling them. Then it turns out that the meteor was carrying an army of aliens who start invading and killing etc. So you have to fight them and stuff.

Yup, it's totally nothing like farcry. <_<

Pretty awesome looking though! I can't wait.

EDIT: It's also set a little bit in the future, so apparently we'll get better weapons. Though I really liked the farcry guns, so hopefully not too much better.

New Crysis gameplay video, min requirments for this game will be 8800 gtx! sure u can play it with lesser hardware but it wont look like anything in those screenies!

Decman - January 7, 2007 03:48 PM (GMT)
Pffffft, my FX5200 will manage it no problem!

Drake - January 8, 2007 10:02 AM (GMT)
What is everybodies guess on requirements and such? This baby will only play on a beast im tellin ya.

Robert - May 2, 2007 08:15 AM (GMT)
The graphics are basically the selling point of this game.Crysis fanboys disgust me :P

dave_cool31 - May 13, 2007 09:46 AM (GMT)
the graphics and the other nifty things about DX10, like destructible environments and cool physics models, but yeh you're right - pretty much the graphics. And also it has a level editor which would probably be kind of cool... Also does anyone know the release date of this game?

Decman - May 13, 2007 11:16 AM (GMT)
Who knows. Some say summer, others say autumn. I don't think it'll slip into 2008, that's for sure. The game looks pretty done, but sure, so did Stalker. :D:P

Maybe I dreamt it up, but I think I remember reading Crysis would be DX9 compatible at the sacrifice of various bells and whistles.

Resident-Seven - May 13, 2007 01:09 PM (GMT)
Yeah, they said that in PCPP.

FreakTrigger - May 13, 2007 10:34 PM (GMT)
Currently no official release date - but yeah, it's also DX9 compatible.

It would be a tough sell to make it DX10 exclusive, considering Geforce 8 series owners are currently a minority.

I'm willing to bet it will be something along the lines of Far Cry - extremely pretty, but capable of scaling back really well for lesser machines owned by mere mortals, powered by electricity rather than the souls of LANers.

Robert - May 14, 2007 10:26 AM (GMT)
Do you own a DX10 capable card? cheap DX10 cards are there any?

BrotherEstapol - May 14, 2007 12:27 PM (GMT)
There is now.
Just recently(few weeks ago?) Nvidia released it's cheapo 8000 series cards that support DX10. They(8600 GT & 8500 GT) range from around $150AUD to $400AUD based on performance and what-not.

Not sure how they'd perform...I'm thinking somewhere around what the 7900's spit out.

And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that :)

BrotherEstapol - May 15, 2007 05:07 AM (GMT)
Not at all. They're great value for money at this point in time. ;)

Qubert - May 15, 2007 05:22 AM (GMT)
DX10, visually, just provides ADDITIONAL ambient effects. Texture, polygon and overall graphical quality will still be dependant on things that DX9 cards can do.

Robert - June 14, 2007 04:52 AM (GMT)
Well Direct X 10 has some competition. Unless games start using both settings, because in my opinion Open GL 2.1 looks way better, and yes I do agree Direct x 10 does look nice too.

Decman - June 19, 2007 04:26 PM (GMT)
The new, budget DX10 cards are apparently a waste of money. I read a review about the 8600GTS where it was absolutely slated: the much older Radeon X1950 can nearly out-perform it (though the 8600 did supposedly shine with larger, outdoor environments as seen in Oblivion). I'd much rather spend the extra few hundred for a better DX10 card, than blow it one that's matched by a DX9 card from 2005/06.

There's no point in spending money on a card that's going to be ageing rapidly before 2007 is over, unless of course you simply can't wait for Crysis and you plan on upgrading again.

I was reading an interview with one of Crysis' development team, and they said that no computer will be able to run the game at ultra-detail for another 18 months, when better tech is available on the market; even more evidence to suggest that budget DX10 cards are a big no-no.

FreakTrigger - June 20, 2007 02:06 AM (GMT)
As far as I'm concerned, updating a graphics card right now is a matter of taking the big dive and getting the 8800, either the 640mb GTS or a GTX, overclocked or not. We've actually found the higher models of DX10 cards to be far, far more popular (we have trouble keeping them around more than ten minutes) than the budget models at Gamehead.

The budget models are nice enough and from the looks of things perform comparably to late DX9 cards, but my bottom dollar says they're going to date before their time, particularly when the price drop arrives as a result of ATI entering the DX10 arena.
