Title: What's The Point Of Smoking Weed?
Description: i need an explanation right now

Drake - July 11, 2006 03:56 PM (GMT)
Do people smoke weed when they have the blues? or is it just a nigger/hiphopper trend? i know its really worldwide problem.

why would people seek to delete their brain cell count when they're depressed. It seems like a sad, twisted version of suicide to me.

BrotherEstapol - July 11, 2006 04:14 PM (GMT)
Well depending on the person it can make you happy if you are depressed.
I don't think there are as many deaths that are directly attributed to smoking pot, as there are to say...excessive amounts of alcohol, or harder drugs, so I can't say I agree with your "sad, twisted version of suicide" comment.
Though to be honest I'm not an expert in the field(never smoked it, all my college(Yr.11 & 12) mates did, cept me. I'm a good boy :P), so I can't really say much on the subject.

Random Hero - July 12, 2006 08:59 AM (GMT)
i too have never tried it while veryone around me did.....i really have no idea why people smoke it, it stinks to high hell yuck!

That is one of the funniest things I've ever read on this forum.

People smoke weed largely because it makes them feel good - so basically the same reason people drink alcohol, tell jokes, watch movies or buy new clothes. If you do something in your life for the sole purpose of feeling good - that's the same reason. There are plenty of silly spiritual reasons as well. Yes it's bad for your health but people do plenty of things that are bad for their health but make you feel good - like drinking alcohol eating chocolate or watching too much tv. I really think it's very obvious why people smoke weed and I'm sorry that you've either lived such a sheltered life or are mentally retarded if you could think of this reason yourself.

borgster101 - July 12, 2006 11:08 AM (GMT)
I dont think you can compare watching TV or eating chocolate with smoking weed, I see where you are going with it, all are bad for your health but people do them, but they are not in the same class.

If there are many ways for people to "feel good" then why choose one that has a higher chance of killing you one day? Surely people who smoke weed to "feel good" can do something else to gain a similar feeling?

Seriously though I think the heaviest reason is because kiddies admire niggers (they are like heroes to them), and copy everything they do..

Suity - July 13, 2006 08:37 AM (GMT)
I've never smoked weed, probably will in the near future though, not from peer pressure or anything I just want to try it myself.

I was laughing at you not with you.

I think it's hard to explain the experience weed can bring to people who haven't tried it. Not that I smoke lots but if you have tried it more than once I'm sure you can understand the attraction. I also think the 'risk'/legality of it makes it more appealing to some people - especially people who already feel somewhat alienated from society - or certain parts of society.

I kind of gathered that seeing as the odds of somebody actually finding mild racism funny are quite low. :P sorry if i offended anyone...

on second thought...

LIMEWIRE -> SEARCH -> JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - CRY ME A RIVER - > DOWNLOAD FINISHES -> HIT PLAY

:P

Wiggers I suppose are the worst, we have many of them around my town. metalheads too. I have a friend named Matt, he's smoked himself dumb. he has slow reaction times to anything and is pretty slow. i don't get why he still continues to smoke?

In the words of Willy Nelson:

We didn't get high because it was the thing to do...

I don't think there is any point in it.
People do it to try to act cool.

BrotherEstapol - July 15, 2006 05:27 AM (GMT)
Hmm, can't say I agree with you there...that may be the case at first, or with some people trying to fit in.
For others it's a lifestyle.

I don't think that it's a totally invalid line...it's probably true for most cases with kids in High School, and others in group situations.(read; peer pressure)

But in general I'd say it's a gross generalisation and not the case witht he vast majority of pot smokers.

That's a bit 'arsh! I always see n00bs smoking weed because somebody else "cooler" offered them some

Could be many reasons. Escapism readily comes to mind.

A friend of mine says he just likes the effect it has on him. Prefers it to cigarette smoking. He also says other stuff, like taking away some of his lower back pain, but I think these are ways for him to rationalise and justify it.

I've tried it, but didn't really care much for it. Just doesn't appeal to me.

Short answer to the question:

To get toasted. Niiiicely toasted.

quartz_donkey - July 17, 2006 11:52 AM (GMT)
Andys right people smoke pot to get high. Simple.

Random Hero - July 17, 2006 02:41 PM (GMT)
But i know some people that dont particularly enjoy the high, and still smoke it when its around

...which brings us back to doing it purely to fit in. ;)

My friends and I got kinda bored of the repetitious getting drunk method of having a good time, and perhaps something to do with our age and what others were doing persuaded us to give marijuana a shot.

It's not a big thing for me at all. I don't rely on it, I don't go places purely for the weed, it's just a way to pass the time and do something with others. My opinion of why people smoke it is not to look cool or fit in, it's to experiment and to maybe know what it's like to be stoned first hand.

If you want Maynard James Keenan's opinion (frontman of Tool), you do weed in order to get to a place you can't get to whilst sober, and then aim to get there without the aid of drugs. Too challenging for me. :P

Texta - July 18, 2006 11:37 PM (GMT)
I guess there are a lot of reasons why you might smoke weed.

I honestly prefer the feeling of being stoned to being drunk (plus you don't have to worry about all the peeing). But I don't do much of either these days.

Just to clear something up, smoking weed isn't some massive brain cell killer. That's alcohol. That said, there is some pretty strong evidence that weed can contribute to mental health issues and like everything too much of it can really mess you up. There's also the whole cancer thing, though my educated guess is that tobacco smoking would generally be a bigger problem because tobacco smokers generally smoke a lot more than pot heads.

2 of my best friends got involved in drugs a couple of years back and they're still doing it today. Just the other week I heard from a friend that he went to a party and witnessed both of them getting heavily drunk whilst smoking whatever-it-was, then proceeded to show off to some other in another friend's ute by doing snakes down the road causing $10,000 damage to the car.

I'm not sure how they started off doing drugs in the first place but I think it all started when they originally came to Perth to do Tafe and just got too addicted to drinking, then ended up going to parties revolving around drugs and alcohol.

It's a shame because I used to get along with them really well for 6 odd years and now it feels like I didn't even know them at all

Beast - July 31, 2006 05:30 AM (GMT)
I don't know how accurate it is to blame that kind of behaviour on drugs - I know a lot of people who do drugs (and "harder" drugs than weed) and none of them have ever to my knowledge done anything that has caused any kind of damage to property or society - I tend to think responsible people who use drugs are still responsible and irresponsible people who use drugs are still irresponsible. I would also say that the stigma of drugs being what it is, the majority of people who use drugs are irresponsible - but that they would be even if they didn't use drugs (although drugs definitely accentuate that irresponsibility).

RooK - July 31, 2006 08:57 AM (GMT)
I smoke weed for two reasons

1) Everything is fun as hell when you're high

2) I'm a sniping god in Halo 2 when I'm baked

:P
