Great thread. :D

I voted NES, because well, it had the best games imo. Even today they're good to play.

Ah, that brings back memories.

Sega Master System hands down for me. I loved the NES, but the Master System just had that little more oomph. It seemed to me that for every game the NES had there was an as good or better game on the SMS (Mario-Sonic, Zelda-Phantasy Star).

Manny M - May 5, 2004 10:47 PM (GMT)
Sega Master System without a doubt. It's the system that introduced me to mainstream gaming.

I voted for the NES. I was too young to remember it much but I used to play my cousins NES every time I went over. It got me into the video game world and when the SNES came out I bought that, because of my Nintendo influence. The SNES has to be my ultimate system, and I refer to those days as the 'glory years' of gaming. And all thanks to the NES I was able to be a part of it.

NES for me. Brings back a lot of memories.....

I voted for the SMS. The NES, whilst having a lot more recogniseable games, doesn't have much (aside from the Mario series) that I would consider favourites of mine.

The SMS on the other hand was one of my first exposures to console gaming and games like Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Monaco GP are favourites of mine.

I voted for the NES, it has a library that spans over 750 games with well over 100s of classics that nobody can forget - including me.

Ghazrat - May 6, 2004 03:21 AM (GMT)
Say it with me now "Sega" "Master" "System" "II". Alex Kidd shats all over that Mario chappie.

Shadow Link - May 6, 2004 04:48 AM (GMT)
Although I owned both as a child, the SMS brings back more memories. Games like The Ninja, Alex Kidd, Golden Axe and Altered Beast dominated my youth.

Comrade Natrak - May 6, 2004 06:25 AM (GMT)
I never owned a Master System, it was the NES that got me into gaming. So it wins by default. I have so many fond memories of Mario Bros. 3, Excitebike, Ghouls n' Ghosts, International Karate (I think that was it, it was something along those lines) etc.

Chrisł - May 6, 2004 06:34 AM (GMT)
With so many people owning NES's back in the day, it's weird that I never knew anyone who owned one.

Fyuusii - May 6, 2004 09:49 AM (GMT)
Sega Master System II hands down. The NES had classics sure, but the SMSII's didn't always necessarily revolve around the conglonmerate's core franchises, which shows much more third-party influence (of worth anyway).

Classics through my earlier days with the SMSII included the Alex Kidd, Sonic the Hedgehog & Wonderboy games plus Dragon Crystal, Penguin Land, Populous and many, many more.

EDIT: Ugh, I am not the ace speller today...

Golden Axe on SMS was only one player: How do I know this? I basically lived on the game. :D

This is 8-bit discussion, dammit!

Sega. Mainly because I owned one for the first years of my life, and grew up around it. Oh, and speaking of old-school consoles, I recently just bought a DreamCast for $35 :ph43r:

Alex Kidd was one of the greatest games of that time, IMO. B)

OldSkOoL - May 14, 2004 02:22 AM (GMT)
Look at my Avatar/Sig. That game alone will sway my vote. Sega Master System 2.
