The Dreamcast is clearly the more powerful machine, regardless of what Sony's inflated specs suggest.

Power Stone was an early DC game and looks much better than the plain, blocky graphics seen here for the PSP. The visuals shown here are so bad, it may be distracting during gameplay.

I'm disappointed, as I had high hopes for this one. I looks now like it's another lazy port.

For those of us that are lazy..

Clearly better on Dreamcast, although I guess the game will still be fun on the PSP, this was a great multiplayer game though with 4 friends and controllers, which I dont think will be enjoyed to say extent on a handheld as it was on a console.

This is a gaming forum, of course there are people that are that lazy.

Yeah, like me. Thanks for the pictures borg.

The DC screenshots are certainly impressive compared to the PSP shots, but then again they could look better on the actual device. I remember seeing screenshots for Ridge Racers on PSP which didn't look too flash, but on the machine it looks amazing.

DJ-Civic - April 25, 2006 04:27 PM (GMT)
The PSP version looks good, but the texturing in that first shot(the green Sub) looks like arse. Ugh!
I always wanted Power Stone to get ported to the Xbox, but it never happened. How about a DS version Capcom?

You guys are joking right? Ok check out the screens for PS1 on PSP. There's absolutely nothing wrong with them. They've reduced the amount of polygons for whatever reason, but this was never the best looking game anyway. Its so close that you won't even care in the slightest unless you do a side by side comparision. Its going to look blocky and dated on either platform, why split hairs?

Now look at the screens for PS2 on PSP. They look completely shit right?? Guess what, they looked and played completely shit on DC as well.

Anyone who buys this collection will get it for PS1 alone, which was head and shoulders the better game. But even then, it is now so dated that its only worth playing for novelty value. Its not even old enough to give nostalgia trips.

Really, this is a game you could port over to DS and scale down the details dramatically, and even then nobody would care. Powerstone was just another mashy beat em up that you'd pick up for $30, and you wouldn't love it, you'd "not hate it" and call it a bargain at $30. Just because its being repackaged and sold it doesn't mean it was ever a classic, and just because the visuals aren't as good doesn't mean they've butchered a classic.

If you want the game, go get it. Comparing screens for something like this is borderline pathetic.

borgster101 - April 29, 2006 07:38 AM (GMT)
With those abbreviations PS1 and PS2 I thought you mean the Playstation consoles, and I'm thinking "what look at the PS2 on PSP, what the hell are you smoking ultracrazy" :P

But then I realised you meant Power Stone! Anyway I'm not sure what you're going on about, the screens dont look as good on PSP as they did on DC, thats true and theres nothing wrong with people pointing that out. Perhaps since the game is an old game, people expect a new version to look better than the original, fair enough.

And I've got Power Stone 2 on DC (still got it :) ) and it was a lot of fun, blast in multiplayer, dont know if I'd call it a classic, but I wouldnt say it's just another beat em up you pick up for $30 either.

And yet you spent a whole thread defending those same games.

I think that was borderline pathetic, but each to their own I guess. :)

borgster101 - April 29, 2006 08:10 AM (GMT)
What's going on with the code Estapol, I had to edit two of your posts :P Wake up!

BrotherEstapol - April 29, 2006 08:12 AM (GMT)
Well I am still slightly hung-over, that can be my excuse for today. :P

ultracrazy1 - April 29, 2006 08:24 AM (GMT)
I mean, compare screenshots if you want, but the best case scenario is you end up with a perfect port of a blocky clunky game. You can't say it looks worse on PSP and let that be your reason for ignoring it, if you showed interest at some point. Also if you are going to compare, you may as well get some DC screens better than blurred out 320x240 images.

I wan't defending them, I'm not even interested in getting most of the games I mentioned in that thread. I was just correcting these assumptions people made that they were all snes games and there was nothing new.

Where does all this hostility come from?

You seemed to get p*ssed off with your first post, I think it's simply a clash of opinion really, you started your post with "You guys are joking right?", which to me suggests that you're a little pissed off with something that has been said.

There's no hostility per se, merely a clash of opinion. People are going to make decisions to buy or not buy games for whatever reason, and to you they might be stupid reasons, hell 50 cent was the number 1 selling game in Australia, which suggests that there is a lot of people out their that are making their purchasing decisions on far more 'stupid' criteria.

Well, you. :P

Everyone was having a nice little discussion about how the PSP versions aren't quite up to par with the original Dreamcast versions, and then come in say that what there're doing is "borderline pathetic".
Not very nice now is it? I mean, you could have said it in a much nicer manner than you did...but instead of just stating that you thought there wasn't much difference in the graphics(and left it at that), you went on to ridicule the fact that people even want the game by calling it just another beat 'em up you 'd find in a bargin bin. Why didn't you say anything when people were comparing screenshots of RE4 on the GCN and PS2? Or those Fight Night shots for the 360 and the PS3?
Clearly if people are this interested in the game, it's not "just another beat em up".
You didn't see anyone posting about how they don't like 2d fighting games, and how the genre is dead(not my opinion btw) in your OHN 2006 thread...and for good reason; it just provokes arguments, and (usualy) doesn't add to the thread at all.

That is all. :mariodance2:

ultracrazy1 - April 29, 2006 10:42 AM (GMT)
It wasn't really that they were comparing the screenshots, its those 2 specific quotes that led me to think Random Hero and Borgster had written off the game because it was scaled back (I know borgster wouldn't get it anyway cos he's got powerstone 2 on DC and doesn't have a psp).

Put it this way, if people were comparing RE4 on ps2 and GCN and said the PS2 version is so inferior that its not worth getting, then I'd probably step in and say thats crazy. Thats how the dialogue in this thread seemed to be heading. Or even saying that you'd enjoy the GCN version more because it looks better, I'd still say its only something you'd care about for that moment when you look at screens side by side. Its one of those cases where given the choice between the 2, you'd choose the DC version, but I wouldn't call it a lazy port and I wouldn't say you'd enjoy it less.

Also when I had a look at those particular screens being compared, they're both pretty rubbish. The psp shots really show the aliasing, and lets face it this port isn't even complete. The DC shots are low res and blurred out. I just kinda felt like saying "whoa whoa whoa what the hell are you guys doing here?" I mean make the judgement on some better grounds, cos not only are you comparing the visuals by using terrible references, you're talking about inferior visuals ruining a game that has always been blocky and clunky.

Shouldn't have said "pathetic" I guess, but someone had to point these things out.

borgster101 - April 29, 2006 10:48 PM (GMT)
Your quote of my post above, is only in reference to the multiplayer aspects, I was saying that the game is great with friends and 4 controllers, which might be hard to do on PSP since you'd need to have friends that all have PSPs, even if it was online this sort of party game is best played with mates gathered around the TV, in my opinion anyway.

Anyway, I know what you're saying, if you have never played Power Stone before, this PSP version would likely be a pretty cool game to get, but perhaps only if you know a few people with PSP's. And likewise if you didnt have a GCN, but did have a PS2 there is no reason to not get RE4 just because the graphics aren't as good.

Random Hero - April 30, 2006 05:23 AM (GMT)
sorry if you find me pathetic cant i discuss something im passionate about?? it would have been so much better if it came to the gamecube or something else with 4 player. It had so much potential and now it will look crappy on psp although just imagine playing power stone 2 in car rides and plane flights... something that was never before possible
