IGN has posted their detailed hands on impressions of the upcoming PC port of Ghost Recon: Advance Warfighter. The preview details how developer GRIN, has gone to great lengths to maintain the strategic depth of the original PC iterations of the franchise.

Quote:
Along with the story, there is a large similarity in the art style. While the engine is actually completely different for the PC version of the game, players will see very few noticeable differences. Lots of browns, use of blur filters for distance objects, very nice explosion effects, and very lifelike animation are all pretty much the same. Different is the more prolific use of physics for visual effect. As demonstrated in the video entitled "Destruction and Physics", some objects in the world are given more life. Boxes will blow into the air and scatter around and vehicles are way more extensive in the number of parts and level of destruction, and vegetation will flutter around when contacted.

Players will find that maps are much larger than they were in the 360 version and have been tuned and set-up to support a much more tactical style of gameplay. There'll be more corners to watch, more directions for enemies to come from, and generally more difficult gameplay.

In order to facilitate the need for more methodical gameplay, GRIN and Ubi decided to add a more functional tactical map back into the experience. Each of the three team members can be given orders individually here and told to execute them individually or all at once for combined assault tactics.

The accompanying videos can be found here.

This is the first Rainbow Six title I've been interested in since the very first in the franchise. I'm really glad to see that GRIN is going out of their way to deliver the kind of R6 experience PC gamers want.

now i have never really been a fan of the Ghost Recon games, to slow, but this one actually looks good and i am looking forward to it. i have played a bit on the Xbox 360 Demo units at work and it looks awesome.
the graphics will be amped up and it will use the full ability of the PC processor.

hopefully it will be a good port, not just a lazy attempt at flinging it onto a new platform to increase money made.

If that article is to be believed, then this looks in no-way to be a lazy port, but an experience geared towards the more hardcore gamer. :D

I played GRAW for the first time today and while the single player was great fun, I was a little dissappointed that the campaign could not be played in co -op mode.

Doesn't run very well on my computer. :(
And the controls seem to be a big groggy as well...I'll have to fiddle around with the settings a bit methinks.

It runs fine on mine, cept it slows when I turn software audio on, which is a shame cause I can't hear my own gunfire when I turn hardware audio on.

It's gone back to the Ghost Recon of old where you get pwned pretty hard by bots who basically just camp the whole time in gay places. No 3rd person is pretty annoying as well. Its pretty much like the first Ghost Recon except better graphics. Basically you just die and then kill the bots when you try again from the last auto save.

Your squad is pretty good though, I wouldn't have been able to finish that level without the boys backing me up.

BrotherEstapol - April 28, 2006 12:27 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I think that's what they want you to do; use the bots to your greatest advantage.

Hmm, I wonder if you could get through the whole game without firing a bullet. :P

my brother downloaded this....it looks incredible but i wasnt as impressed with the gameplay side of things though
