that's a nice piece of 3d hardware. perhaps i should upgrade it from my current GeForce2 mmx400? my 3D card is so ancient that it doesn't even have compatibility with today's latest games. i have enough trouble just with the original Max Payne that suffers from occasional framerate and detail issues.
one of the reasons why i haven't upgraded my comp for such a long time is because i hardly ever use it to play PC games. PS2 is my main choice whereas the PC is just there to play games like The Sims. i want to buy The Sims 2 but it seems awfully stupid to upgrade eveyrthing only to play 1 game and nothing else

/backslash: It depends on whether you plan to upgrade your entire system anytime soon, and what its current state is. If you're looking just to play the sims 2, maybe a 9800 Pro is what you need, as they'll be dead cheap soon (even though they were already getting very cost effective).
As for me, i'll be grabbing a X800 Pro to give my current ATX system a longer life. My 9600 XT will only last so long. <_<

As will I, and it seems that the cards are doing well even on the beta drivers, with the current cpus are limiting the peformance.
But at $600 Au roughly the X800 Pro is going to be hard to beat.

Some damn nice cards. I'd like to see how the PCI-Express cards will compare to these generation of cards, when they get released towards the end of the year.
BrotherEstapol - May 6, 2004 01:50 AM (GMT)
Damn, nVidia won't be happy. :P
I think I may be picking up a next gen card later in the year, but I'll have to check the prices 1st. ;)

Umm Lordage, that was 25000 in 2001, 12000 in 3Dmark 03 ;)
Maybe you should get your glasses checked :P

Well so it is... I flipped when I saw that. :P 12,100 is still damn good.

I was checking out the benchmarks, and when you crank up the resolution etc boy do those new cards kick ass!
I will buy a X800 pro, as firstly an xt would be like $800-1000 at first, and secondly my cpu couldnt keep up.
Looking good ATi :D

Some questions:
Are either of these cards out here.
And how much will they be/are they?
Thankyou for your time. :D

I've seen shops advertising the X800Pro in Aus. But the X800XTs won't be out for a few weeks yet. The PCI-E versions will be out here in a few months.
If you're desperate you can order an X800XT from overseas like some other people have done.

Good to see some initial reviews are finally hitting the net.
I'm going to buy either the 6800 or this card (although I prefer Nvidia due to their support), so this news'll come in handy.
Still waiting on the comparison in next months Atomic..i'll provide a rundown then.

Actually the X800 Pros are only $700.
And most of those owners have been able to mod their Pro into an XT with one little solder...

So is the 6800 out here yet?
Or just the X800 Pro?
Also, is there a big performance difference between the X800 Pro, and the XT?

If 20fps at high res for the latest games matter, then yes, although those games are already over 60-70fps, so there is no real notable difference.

I'm more of an Nvidia man myself.
My first vid card was an Nvidia, and they have been ever since.
I'm not really a fan of the lack of support ATi cards have got, although they seem to be getting better.
I'll wait a month or so until complete comprehensive tests and comparisons are done on both the x800s and the 6800s before I make a decision on which one i'll definately get.

nVidia is releasing a mainstream version of the 6800 Ultra. I don't know what it's called and no idea when it's out in Aus (should be sometime next month for US). But good for those who would like something next-gen without the hefty pricetag.

I am sorry to have to tell you this, but nVidia ain't cool anymore, after they have been caught using driver cheats which have downgraded image quality considerably. ATI have also been caughht using driver cheats, but their's didn't downgrade the quality of images in game.
And since when doyou buy something simply because it is cool ;)

Sorry to say Sam, but that's one of the most stupid things i've heard in a long while.
Who honestly says "Ohh, you've got an Nvidia card..you're the shiznit!!11" or "What the f*ck! An ATi card!!1 I'm regretfully withdrawing the friendship between myself and your person".
***Edit***
Oy! Don't you be editing my post for no reason now Estapol.
I think the authority is getting the better of you.
sam - June 27, 2004 01:18 AM (GMT)
i was only joking before
u should probably get the cheaper 1 cos theres not a huge difference in performance.
