Title: Battlefield 2142
_MetalliX_ - March 22, 2006 06:52 AM (GMT)
Oh My God!It's like Battlefield meets Halo meets MechAssault!
BrotherEstapol - March 22, 2006 07:43 AM (GMT)
Stupid EA/DICE...this had better be delayed by at least a year if they don't want to piss off the BF2 community, cause releasing a sequel this soon is just stupid.
Can you say Battlefield Vietnam 2?
f15active - March 22, 2006 07:53 AM (GMT)
I saw a small teaser for this a while back, was pre-rendered though. This is alot more clear, it almost certainly looks like the BF2 Engine. Interesting story at least, something BF2 lacked.
Australia should so be in this, at least one of the levels. Aussie forces defend Australialand from noobs in the northern hemisphere.
BrotherEstapol - March 22, 2006 08:11 AM (GMT)
Yeah, looks more like an xpack or a mod than a whole new game...you'd think if they were going for a proper sequel, they'd spend a bit more time on it than this.
thebigm - March 22, 2006 12:03 PM (GMT)
Am I the only one thinking this will be probably trounced by UT2k7 and Quake Wars...
Oh well, I guess I need to see / hear more of this, and hope that it's simply not a slight upgrade / cosmetic redo of BF2.

Oh my no, most people in the BF2 community (me included) reckon this is purely a reaction to Enemy Territory, the fact that the BF2 players will mirate there when it comes out.

Yeah, I reckon it'll just be more like a BF2 mod than a whole new game sadly...
BF2 has alot more life in it, and I think this was a severly pre-mature move on EA and DICE's behalf.
Slightly off topic, but EA and DICE have all but finalized their merger.

Heres the official press release...

EA AND DIGITAL ILLUSIONS ANNOUNCE BATTLEFIELD 2142 FOR PC
All-new Title from the Award-winning Battlefield Franchise to be set in the Future
Redwood City, Calif. – March 22, 2006 – Fight an all-out war for survival in the year 2142. Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) and Sweden-based developer, Digital Illusions, today announced development of the next installment in the award-winning Battlefield™ franchise, Battlefield 2142™. The ground-breaking first-person shooter is scheduled to ship this fall for the PC.
The year is 2142, and the dawn of a new Ice age has thrown the world into a panic. The math is simple and brutal: The soil not covered by ice can only feed a fraction of the Earth’s population. Some will live, most will die. In Battlefield 2142, players will choose to fight for one of two military superpowers in an epic battle for survival, the European Union or the newly formed Pan Asian Coalition. Armed with a devastating arsenal of hi-tech assault rifles, cloaking devices and sentry guns, players will also do battle using some of the most imposing vehicles known to man. Massive battle Mechs wage fierce combat on the ground, while futuristic aircraft rule the skies. When facing one of these new behemoths, players will need to use their wits and an arsenal of new countermeasures like EMP grenades to level the playing field.
"Battlefield has long been synonymous with innovative, best-of-breed online multiplayer action," said Sean Decker, Executive Producer, DICE. "By stepping into the future with Battlefield 2142, the team at DICE has reinvented the rules of engagement for the next century.”
Team play features allow up to 64 players to enter the action on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or work behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their teammates. With in-game success, players increase their rank and unlock awards, including new weapons, medals and more, delivering the most comprehensive and flexible persistence in the Battlefield universe to date. For more information about Battlefield 2142, please visit http://battlefield.ea.com/ or our press web site at http://info.ea.com/

You gotta remember that EA needs to pump out those yearly sequels, so after 2142, expect another one... I think DICE will regret being bought out by EA.

I really need a new card. :P
Jiro - March 31, 2006 05:51 AM (GMT)

You can download the hi-res version of the trailer
here.
Beta testing has begun for this game, I wasn't bothered signing up, but apparently it will go open soon.

Having been inundated with requests overnight (apologies for not replying to every one individually) I thought I'd explain how the 2142 beta is being run.
At present we have invited a selection of members from across the Battlefield community to take part in the initial tuning beta. Along with FilePlanet subscribers these will be the only people in this phase of the test.
The period is not intended or expected to last very long, and there will be subsequent testing periods which will have a visible and straightforward sign-up process. It is regrettable that we cannot sign up further people at this time, however space is limited and as such we have no further codes available.
When the open phase of the test begins we'll give full instructions on how to join. |

BF:V syndrome - all the content of what a mod could do in a $100 package.
/backslash - August 20, 2006 04:30 AM (GMT)
Finished watching the low quality video first, followed by the high-res submitted by f15 and let me say that to enhance the experience you really must download the high-res version. For some reason when I viewed the high-res movie on wmp, the aspect ratio was squashed, it was probably intended for widescreen monitors so I had to view it on PowerDVD then tick off the 'keep aspect ratio' option
A promosing possible must-have but even with my recent $300 videocard purchase, it looks like I'll be reverting back from 1280x1024 (from BF2) to 800x600 *sighs*

Spot-on.
Speaking of which, Point of Existance should be out by the end of the week. ;)

POE:2 to be specific. :P
I've been looking forward to this mod for some time now, heres a nice final teaser trailer they released.

Hmm... this game... or Quake Wars?
Difficult choice.
Oh yeah... i must buy an actual gaming PC and not use my year old laptop.
:(
I hope testing is thorough. I couldn't stand the bugs in BF2.
D43M0N - September 8, 2006 11:44 AM (GMT)
I would definatly wait for QW, it seems to be better. However, make up your own mind, the demo for BF2142 comes out on Monday, Sept. 12th.
BrotherEstapol - September 8, 2006 12:42 PM (GMT)
You mean Tuesday the 12th? :P
ET will pwn 2142...no competition.

Fucking...all day, I've had my dates mixed up. I thought today was September 11, and was wondering why there was nothing on TV about it... <_<
f15active - September 15, 2006 06:17 AM (GMT)
Are you sure you didn't mean October sometime?
All I know for sure is that the game will be released on October 10th, I don't think I'm going to bother with this though.
BrotherEstapol - October 22, 2006 09:28 AM (GMT)
I'm temped to get 2142 what with all the good press it's getting, but after BF2, I'm feeling let down...no mod support, shit patching effort, and the retail price for this is $110!
$110 for a PC game is daylight robbery!
But since I can get a new copy on Ebay for as little as $65(sent), I'm still tempted...
Where are you Enemy Territory? :(
D43M0N - October 22, 2006 09:49 AM (GMT)
I'm saving for QW. I'll wait until the demo is out on coverdiscs and such before even bothering about it.
Neo.Sanity - October 22, 2006 10:21 AM (GMT)
I'm confused. Has EA released a modification for Battlefield 2 or is this a totally new game?
BrotherEstapol - October 23, 2006 06:32 AM (GMT)
It's techically a new game, but it's more like a Mod since it's just new content (and some code fixes) dumped on top of thw BF2 engine.
But yeah, you wanna play it, you won't need BF2, so it's not a mod in that sense.
Drake - October 24, 2006 06:59 AM (GMT)
I heard it's buggy as hell from my american friend
BrotherEstapol - October 24, 2006 12:25 PM (GMT)
Well it is running on the BF2 engine. :P
Decman - October 24, 2006 09:23 PM (GMT)
The same engine? I thought as much.
Have the minimum specs been released yet? I have Battlefield 2 (no online play though, but I survive) and I barely scrape the minimum requirements in terms of my GFX card. It says that only nVidia FX series 57+ is supported, yet I was quite surprised when my sepulchral FX5200 managed to run the game, even at 1024x768, and even BF Vietnam chugged when I turned the res up that high.
Do you think that the same specs will apply to 2142?
BrotherEstapol - October 25, 2006 02:49 PM (GMT)
I'd probably say that you'll need slighty higher specs than what is required for BF2, but it is pretty much the same game, with more toys to play with.

That's some mighty poor phrasing Estapol :P
At least I could still run it at high detail @ 30fps. Shame I didn't opt for a widescreen LCD instead earlier this year. I'm looking at the ultra-stylish Viewsonic VX2235wm 22" TFT LCD atm but I know I shouldn't. However I could sell my VX922 on ebay....arrghh, better not think about it
I might pick this game up next week, maybe.

Come on adminerator, don't make excuses.
D43M0N - October 26, 2006 09:35 PM (GMT)
Oh my fucking god, I hate this game. While the premise seems nothing more than a cash cow, Dave_Cool (living up to the cool part of his name) burned me the demo on DVD. Installed it this morning.
So far, I've booted the game up three times, with three CtDs. Fuck the game.

It is a very enjoyable game... just not as good as BF2.
docturrer - December 20, 2006 01:16 AM (GMT)
I rekcon this game will be the next hit on the PC
with the new mech type vehicles and weapons.
A bit like mech assault but ten x better!
ElPresidente - December 21, 2006 01:41 AM (GMT)
Well it had been out for a while and the general community response seems to be to leave it alone and play BF2.
