Title: Nintendo copies too
Random Hero - March 20, 2006 01:36 PM (GMT)
I hear a lot of bull crap about other companies stealing nintendo's idea......honestly why do people care if a console takes a good idea to make its self better? but anyway...this topic is based off of the idea that nintendo copies a lot of people too.
Disc....even tho they are one generation late, Nintendo now uses dvd's like sony and microsoft used last year
dvd player ability....well sony was the first system to play dvd and microsoft was the first to use a dongle add on....nintendo is doing both this time around.
The internet exists? one gen later.....nintendo realises internet gaming is important to a lot of gamers. ps2 and xbox did it last year.
downloading old school games............the xbox live arcade can download a lot of old school video games as well as new interesting ones. 360 was released in what mayb be one full year before revolution is released.
Almost nothing Nintendo has done is completely original.
ok....go ahead and ignore me or call me a sony/xbox fan boy because i am done letting some steam off.
EDIT: 200th post!

Other companies used CD's prior to Sony and Sega, so did they copy? Not really. It's all about the technology that's best suited to game development. Nintendo was just stubborn when it came using normal DVDs this generation.

I think it's more of a "give what the consumer wants" scenario imo. Maybe. :P

Now this one I agree with. While both Sony and MS went online, Nintendo TOLD US we didn't want online games. Then all of sudden the DS is online and everyone wants online games? :eyebrow:

While the idea is the same, I think Revolution's games will be a shitload better. I mean you have a HUGE catalogue of classic NES, SNES, N64 games to choose from!

im really not trying to talk bad about nintendo.....the revolution is probably the only next gen system ill be buying. i just think its stupid when people start saying that sony is copying nintendo's marketing strategy.
honestly people should stop caring and be happy for other systems to do well. the competition is the only reason nintendo is making the revolution anyway. if the gamecube was the only system las year then we would prolly just see better graphics from nintendo.

Assuming like that though gets us nowhere. We all know by now that the gaming world is unpredictable. Sure people like to think it is predictable based on history but then as per usual something happens out of the blue and away we go again. So saying that this or that would have happened otherwise is pointless in my opinion.
As for Nintendo, of course they have used ideas that were implemented elsewhere first. It is part and parcel of developing a better product as a whole and of course being a business that is in competition. However, the reason why so many people slag of Sony or whatever for stealing/implementing ideas is because based on history, Nintendo has been stolen from more than any other company. Of course most of the arguments are biased from the Nintendo fanboys but even so, the fact is there. It's a cruel world out there but hey, why should we complain? Those gamers who actually realise that fun can be had with all companies rather than a particular one end up having and enjoying the best time with our medium. What else should we as gamers want?

It's not like Sony or MS invented discs, it's just a storage medium.

Again, this feature isn't really gaming specific, but yeah if Sony/MS didnt have the capabilities Nintendo wouldnt bother with it.

Nintendo has been experimenting with online gaming for a long time, the N64 had online features but it was only availble in Japan. The only reason Nintendo's online features were not mainstream until WiFi connection, is because Nintendo felt that the technology (online) wasnt profitable enough.

Yeah the vitural console is indeed Nintendo's answer to the Live Arcade.

True, touch screens, analogue sticks, motion sensing etc existed before, but Nintendo applied them to games in a new way.
That said, companies 'stealing' Nintendo's ideas only forces them to be more competitve and come up with more innovative ideas. And really the only ideas that were 'stolen' (say analgoue stick) were simply because the features set new standards for the industry, if Nintendo's revolution really kicks off, then we will see similar offerings in the future by Sony and MS.
Notice that really the word 'stealing ideas' is a pretty harsh way to put it (it's really a fanboy term), I like to think of it as setting standards, Nintendo set the standard for 3D console gaming with control sticks, MS set the standard for a top of the line Online service, etc...

Yeah dude Nintendo are a bunch of dirty basturds. Hmm Anyway it seems everyone go's on about all the Nintendo fanboys. But I ask you why aren't they buying GCN's? heh why are the sale numbers so bad if there are so many of us? For the rest of it I don't care.
borgster101 - March 21, 2006 12:32 AM (GMT)
Because the fanboys relative to the mainstream audience is very small.
DZ - March 21, 2006 01:50 AM (GMT)
Because Nintendo didn't have balls until this [next ]gen. The NES had an online feature where you could download stuff like TV shows, so Ninty didn't really steal anything.
BrotherEstapol - March 21, 2006 08:58 AM (GMT)
As DZ pointed out, the NES was online...THE NES! :P
Even so, MS didn't invent the Internet...same as how Nintendo didn't invent the analouge stick, or how Sony didn't invent the Eye-toy tech...what they did do was bring those ideas into the home console industry, and like Civ said, after they'd been brought in, they became the new "benchmark" in that area.
Funilly enough, I was going to say that Sony didn't invent the CD...but then I remembered that (along with Phillips) they did!
Anyways, why are you posting this here? This forum is relatively fanboy free...and the fanboys are that are here are generally not as closed-minded as the norm.
borgster101 - March 21, 2006 09:59 AM (GMT)
Indeed, there isn't much to justify here, maybe Random Hero didnt want to get a fanboy slaughter after his post.
Although he did say "ok....go ahead and ignore me or call me a sony/xbox fan boy because i am done letting some steam off", were you expecting a fanboys to reply?
