Just read a
review of this film and it sounds really good, I first learned about it when seeing an advertisement on the back of my Foxtel magazine and the look really interested me.
After learning more about the film it sounds like it'll be an entertaining cinema experience, a political commentary set in the not too distant future with an 'anti-hero' as the main character and based on a graphic novel written in the 80's.
I'm certainly interested and will probably see this in the cinema which is rare for me, as I don’t frequent the cinema very often at all.
Discuss.

It's going to be fantastic. I've seen the trailers and monitered it closely over the last year or so. The reviews have begun to filter in and so far the majority are claiming that it handles the politcal aspects with intelligence rather than push them to the extreme just because they have a license to do so.
Pity it has been pushed back to the 30th though...

ive heard a bit about this, and yeah its a shame it has been delayed. ill definately check it out. trailers are fantastic...

Well the 30th isn't too far away.

Yeah, but when it was originally pencilled in for November...
borgster101 - March 21, 2006 03:24 AM (GMT)
But that was a worldwide delay, wasn't it because of the London bombings? Either way, the 30th is next week.

:o You mean it's coming out next week!?
*joydance*
Looks like a great film.
Squato - March 21, 2006 08:53 AM (GMT)
Nice, I hope it is good (and not turn out to be crap like others).
locky - March 29, 2006 06:17 AM (GMT)
omg this movie looks awesome! i hope its good.
i reckon it will have a batman begins sorta theme going. you know the a powerful group controls everyone and if they get out of hand they kill them, then someone comes out and will fight them and free the people.
can't wait!
borgster101 - March 29, 2006 06:57 AM (GMT)

thebigm - March 29, 2006 09:09 AM (GMT)
Think I will be hopefully watching on Sunday, and from all reviews / scores I've seen it looks to be a good movie.

Shit, I really wanted to see this tomorrow but can't squeeze it in between Uni.
Looks next week on discount Tuesday will be the go...

Saw it last night and it was pretty damn good. It felt like a blend of a few different genres and it was very slick and stylish.
borgster101 - April 1, 2006 02:16 AM (GMT)
Watched the film today, and was very impressed, an enjoyable two hours :) . There is a strong message, that really makes you think about our own governments and propaganda, especially in the US (even though the film is set in London).
The film is certainly not for everyone, but I would reccomend it, I don't want to go into too much detail and spoil it for others, so go and watch it so we can discuss it :D
9/10

I've heard common problems with its length, in that it's about twenty minutes too long. Did you guys find the pacing an issue?
borgster101 - April 1, 2006 09:40 AM (GMT)
Nah I dont think so, I can't really think of any moments where I was bored, I suppose for some there could be scenes that felt like they where dragging on, but personally I didnt find any problems with pacing.
Even so, a complaint of '20 minutes too long' is a bit much, I mean it sounds a bit nit picky to me.
Cubeoid - April 1, 2006 12:03 PM (GMT)
I'd say there was at least one point where the movie seemed to randomly run away on a tangent and be a little boring but the rest was all good.
_MetalliX_ - April 1, 2006 01:20 PM (GMT)
That movie was simply superb. The only reason it seemed to drag on was because my patience with the uncomfortable seats was wearing thin. But the movie itself was perfect, it was more like a book than a film, where the greatest fulfillment comes from the thoughts it leaves you with, than the experience of watching it.
My only criticism was the scene with the Priest, which seemed to be a marketing device to create controversy rather than an element in the plot line.
Overall most definitely one for the collection.

Well I watched V for Vendetta today, and would have to say that is an awesome movie, well worth watching.
There's a lot of symbolism in it, but not to the point where you get sick of it, instead it leaves me with the vibe that I felt after watching The Matrix, still leaving me in awe, and appreciating life and worried about how the future could happen, but not too worried.
I seemed to miss the first 5 minutes of the movie, I just go into the movie where

I saw this movie and thought it was awsome. The comparisons to 1984 are unavoidable though. As such colour change time:(spoilers for both the movie and 1984)
| QUOTE |
Even visually this movie is comparable to 1984, the giant vid screen of the "High comissioner" is like the giant posters of Big Brother in 1984 so is the pictures of each in everyones home.
The constant ear dropping, the Black list, the goverment controlled media, the picking up of rebels in the night.
All this harks to 1984, but in 1984 they had even more control, with a culture that encouaged children to dob in there parents for "thoughtcrime." The "fingers" are like the "thoughtpolice." Even down to the use of "party members" in both.
I still think that this movie is complementry to 1984 though, a different flavour of the same thing if you will. 1984 is a lot more introspective, the struggle of one, while "V" is a lot more board, the struggle of the entire country.
The main differences for me was the sense of hope that this movie offers were there certainly isn't any in 1984. The last line in 1984 is haunting while the end of this movie is encouraging.
All in all good stuff, a compelling film visually and aurally. Thought provoking and stunning in it's delivery.

| The film is certainly not for everyone |
would you be interested in expanding on that? What kind of people is it not for? What kind of people is it for?
borgster101 - April 6, 2006 04:32 AM (GMT)
Well, some may be confused about whether V is a 'good guy' or a 'bad guy', which really misses the point of the film, I think some people may mistake the film to be a 'superhero' movie being based on comics and all, and therefore it's not really a movie suitable for children.
So when I say it's not for everyone, I'm referring to the themes of the film, in that either they wont understand them (children), perhaps they are politically sensitive, anyone who is conscience about terrorism especially London buildings being blown up (I believe I read somewhere that the film is doing poorly at the box office in London). If I explain any more I risk spoiling the film, so lets just say there are 'ideas' in the film that not everyone will agree with, and therefore I would conclude that it isn't a film they would enjoy, of course someone could disagree with the ideas and still enjoy it so my comment isn’t absolute, but merely an observation.

Saw this tonight and I thought it was great!
The settings were very well done, and I thought how they only made it a little bit more futuristic than life now, was great for getting you to to relate to it more.
I'd elaborate more, but I can't be arsed at this hour. :P

I just came back from seeing the movie!
It was great, and (as you've all said) thought-provoking.
The message that was the strongest for me was all the "coincedences" piling up and what it could mean if they weren't.. *looks at USA*

Yeah I saw it today and I thought it should have ended about 2 hours earlier. It wasn't that it was bad, just that I was absolutely busting to go to the toilet right from the start! :(
Not a bad movie, though I'm starting to get the feeling that the Wachowski Brothers find a song they really like and base their movies around that. But given the taste they seem to have in music that's certainly not a bad thing. :P
I thought the Nazi symbolism detracted from the film a little, perhaps made it a little easier to dismiss the message as "weren't the nazis evil". Though they obviously meant it to suggest that western nations are following in the footsteps of a significant other nation.
It also had a very 1984 inspired feel to it. Definitely not a bad thing and something that I get from the whole war on terror thing anyway. And probably says a lot about the awesomeness of 1984 even if it was written by a socialist ;)
Oh yeah, and how hard is it to take British accents seriously?! Damn Hard. That's how hard.
