borgster101 - March 15, 2006 09:41 AM (GMT)
Sony's press conference held today in Tokyo, Japan reveled some key details regarding its Playstation 3 console, of perhaps most importance was Sony's announcement that the PS3 will launch in November of this year in the US, Japan and Europe.

Unfortunately no details were disclosed regarding an Australian release thus far, but if the Xbox 360 is anything to go by, it would suggest that Australian gamers wont be getting there hands on the PS3 until 2007.

Further details regarding the systems online system were discussed, the system seems to rival Xbox Live with community tools such as voice chat and lobby matching, in addition the 'basic' service will be free of charge.

It was also confirmed that the PS3 will require a hard drive, although it is uncertain as to whether it will be shipped with the system, the HD's capacity will be 60GB.

Edit At first the Australian release details were uncertain, but now it seems that Australia is indeed included in the November 2006 launch. Whilst this is certainly good news for Australians, one key factor still remains undisclosed and that is pricing. We'll have more as it develops.
