BrotherEstapol - March 14, 2006 04:27 AM (GMT)
Yay! Old school mario!! :D
Machiavelli - March 14, 2006 05:35 AM (GMT)
I think the screen shots look amazing. To me, it screems classic Mario platformer, and that is exactly what I would want. This would have to be the most anticipated DS game right now.
borgster101 - March 14, 2006 09:22 AM (GMT)
Indeed this is classic 2D Mario action :D It's great that Nintendo decided to go this way, even though the DS is clearly capable of an original 3D Mario game, perhaps they are saving that for the Revolution.
But when it comes to platforming games, it seems 2D is the way to go, when these games make the switch to 3D they tend to turn into 'adventure' games, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, although when you're after the insane 2D platforming action, 2D works very well.
JJJames7 - March 15, 2006 09:28 AM (GMT)
This is looking rather nice, but what does the other screen do whist your playing? Also, how is the touch screen implemented?
Random Hero - March 16, 2006 03:10 AM (GMT)
totally awesome im just hoping i can get this before my birthday NO DELAYS PLEASE!! ive been craving some old school mario for ages
Gio - March 16, 2006 09:26 AM (GMT)

That picture makes me happy. :)
Manny M - March 16, 2006 09:30 PM (GMT)
Blah! It's like they're trying to do funky graphics on a horizontal plane, but the system itself can't handle it.
Those screenies don't have me convinced.
borgster101 - March 16, 2006 09:44 PM (GMT)
See it in motion Manny :)

I think that's what you meant, Manny. :P
This is the game that'll get me to buy a DS.
JJJames asked a good question and one I also want answered. What's the touch screen used for? I've seen that powerups are "stored" on the touchscreen, so I assume you use them by touching them?
NismoR34 - March 17, 2006 05:05 PM (GMT)
You know, I was completely set on the idea that the DS Lite was releasing alongside this game that I totally forgot about the possibility of it happening with Metroid.
Well either way I am definitely anticipating both titles and can't wait to hear about the Lite's Australian date so I can prepare my purchase. These two games plus Mario Kart and Animal Crossing shall mean awesome fun with the new handheld.
Bring it on. :D
borgster101 - March 18, 2006 12:32 AM (GMT)
To answer your question Civ, I'm not sure if the touch screen really has any significant effect to the game, I think there will be unlockable mini games like there was in Super Mario 64DS which specifically use the touch screen, but as for the core game, I'd say it's classic Mario. The dual screens would be used to remove clutter from the main game screen :) .
NismoR34 - March 19, 2006 04:52 PM (GMT)
Which, while only subtle, will enhance the game experience quite nicely. :)
Jiro - April 2, 2006 10:20 AM (GMT)
ok i am definatly going to buy a DS now that this game is coming out!!
i hope its like Super Mario 3, that was the best one. i remember when i finished it i was like "that is the best moment in my gaming life"
Spag - April 3, 2006 11:40 AM (GMT)
I'll get this one after all my exams are finished in June. Will be a nice treat for myself.
Looks like a great game and the old skool Mario action looks like it will be a blast.
Random Hero - April 28, 2006 05:54 AM (GMT)
any new news on this im still loving the videos ive seen so far they are so rad
DZ - April 28, 2006 06:36 AM (GMT)

It'll be at E3 in finalised form (I assume), and perhaps an announcment that it'll launch with the Lite?
NismoR34 - May 2, 2006 05:58 PM (GMT)
I bloody well hope so damn it. This wait is almost persuading me to get a normal DS, which I'd rather not do. *sigh*
DJ-Civic - May 2, 2006 06:02 PM (GMT)
I just wish Nintendo would announce something on both the Lite's and the game's release dates for other regions not starting in "Ja" and ending in "pan". <_<
NismoR34 - May 2, 2006 06:38 PM (GMT)
You do realise that Australia's date for the game is June 8th, right?
DJ-Civic - May 3, 2006 03:12 PM (GMT)
And I'm meant to trust the NOAus site with release dates? :P
borgster101 - May 4, 2006 01:45 AM (GMT)
Nintendo Australia's website is reliable for release dates, especially for Nintendo distributed games, everything else is pretty useless though.
Apparantly, the US date for the Lite will be announced very soon, according to Craig from IGN DS, so expect an Aussie date to follow.
Random Hero - May 4, 2006 07:32 AM (GMT)
june?? man i think ill import....it does get released earlier overseas doesn' it?? are there any reviews around yet for this game??
borgster101 - May 4, 2006 09:11 AM (GMT)
Mario is released end of May in US, and Lite has not release date in US yet.

Well unless we hear otherwise, it's the only date we have so yes you are. :P
Random Hero - May 7, 2006 05:41 AM (GMT)
ive been thinking of what id like to see for the final battle with bowser what if the final battle was against a gigantic 75 meter bowser on the traditional bridge. You have to jump all the way up enemy infested platforms before jumping on his head, and eventually on the axe that spells his doom. Of course, he would be spitting fire and what not the whole time. :D
DJ-Civic - May 7, 2006 03:31 PM (GMT)
I'd love to see a "3D" version of the original SMB. It wouldn't be true 3D as you could only walk forward towards the castle. ;)
dave_cool31 - May 9, 2006 06:11 AM (GMT)
IGN have reviewed it!9.5/10
From the closing comments: "Before New Super Mario Bros. entered my life, Yoshi's Island was, to me, the greatest platformer ever created. That title may now have to go to New Super Mario Bros."
:woot:
wow, I really want this game now. I busted out Super Mario All Stars with Super Mario World yesterday and played that a bit after getting psyched about this :P
DJ-Civic - May 9, 2006 03:21 PM (GMT)
Yeah, read that a few nights ago. It's a must-buy for sure. :)
This waiting is driving me nuts I tell ya!! ;)
NismoR34 - May 12, 2006 07:18 PM (GMT)
You're not the only one Civ, you're not the only one.
Thank god there is only a fortnight or so to go.
dave_cool31 - May 14, 2006 08:51 AM (GMT)
yeh I'll probably have to wait until the holidays though, or at least til after block exams, I'm not studying enough as it is :P...
DJ-Civic - May 18, 2006 04:49 PM (GMT)
The full site for the game is up and its fan-fkn-tastic. It plays some of the new music tracks in the background and the new remixes of the old tunes are sounding good. :) So point your b[r]owser (har-har) to
http://mario.nintendo.comIf you don't have broadband tho, leave it loading while you go take a shower and make a sandwich. ;)

But yeah, this game is getting some great reviews, it should be great :D

Anyway, I now have the money I need for my DS Lite purchase. Why is this being mentioned in here? Because I have the money for all the games too including this brilliant one. Oh how this is going to kick arse. :D
Stumpflower - May 19, 2006 09:58 PM (GMT)
I think I will be getting that game for my birthday on June 30. It looks pretty cool.
borgster101 - May 19, 2006 11:43 PM (GMT)
Nismo, do you have enough money for WiFi as well? As we'll need to play online in Metroid.
DJ-Civic - May 22, 2006 11:21 AM (GMT)
I think the kid has set enough for everything... right? ;)
And the WiFi dongle's a bit pricey at $70 imo. A more comfortable $50 price would've hit the spot better.

Nah, haven't put any money aside (or towards) getting the Dongle thingy yet. Rest assured it won't be too long until we play each other over Metroid, the Dongle will certainly be one of my next purchases.
$70 bucks for it though? What the? I thought it was $50. Or is that only if you order from Nintendo?
borgster101 - May 22, 2006 11:50 PM (GMT)
I'm pretty sure it's $50 ordered through Nintendo, and $70 from EB, probably since EB has a monopoly on the product in retail stores, Might as well get it from Nintendo directly.
