Title: The Simpsons-Going Down?
Daniel-117 - March 8, 2006 10:37 AM (GMT)
Has anyone else noticed that the newer episodes of the Simpson’s don't seem to be quite as entertaining as the older episodes...

I think seasons 1-12 were okay, but after that the stories seem to be getting pretty damn crappy.

Like Come on...I think I speak for everyone when I say that I would Much, Much rather watch Marge Simpson become a cop than watch Bart Simpson’s become a “badass” wigger rapper.
Just wondering who here agrees with me?
Cheers,
Daniel

I agree, I dont find the Simpsons as funny as they used to be.
/backslash - March 8, 2006 12:39 PM (GMT)
If anyone hasn't noticed then it'd be the people who live in country towns (used to be me a year ago) that couldn't pick up Channel Ten and instead had another channel that aired seasons 1-8 before it started repeating again & again :P
Everyone on the forums would agree with you yet the ratings in America & Australia still keep on going strong, so Fox studios keep on asking Matt Groening for more episodes. Fox is a company that doesn't know what strong series are (like Firefly & Futurama) or when a series should've closed its doors already
BrotherEstapol - March 8, 2006 01:57 PM (GMT)
The Simpons sucking can be pinpointed to one key event; when the good script writers went to work on Futurama.
I think they came back to the Simpsons after Futurama got canned, but I'm not sure.
Slightly off topic, but a Futurama movie is in the works. :D
borgster101 - March 8, 2006 09:27 PM (GMT)
Yeah I heard the Futurama writers went back to the Simpsons after Futurama got canned, but that was a while ago now, and I haven't really seen any improvements in the quality of Simpsons since Futurama's cancellation.
DZ - March 8, 2006 10:05 PM (GMT)
Futurama didn't get canned. Its on Adult Swim. And yes, The Simpsons are getting more annoying than funny, its sad.
Machiavelli - March 9, 2006 12:18 AM (GMT)
Recently, the show has seemed to take a lot less risks, making for a somewhat stagnant feel. I can't think of a format-bender that didn't turn out to be entertaining or memorable, so why not take more risks with what you can do with the show?
BrotherEstapol - March 9, 2006 12:55 AM (GMT)
I think that's cause took risks in the seasons before that(after futurama), but they were really shit, so they've scaled the risk taking down.

Yes, it DID get canned, there's only 4 seasons.
What you'd be watching on Adult Swim would be called re-runs. ;)
[m]averick - March 9, 2006 05:18 AM (GMT)
I don't think David X. Cohen, Conan O'Brien or Brad Bird write for The Simpsons anymore. Which would explain it's sucking.
~DC - March 9, 2006 09:50 AM (GMT)
They exhausted the series well over six years ago.

Conan only wrote for the first 3 or 4 seasons. He left around 1994 to host his late night show. Brad Bird only directed two episodes, very early on.
No, I think the demise was a combination of the abscence of Mike Reiss (nobody knows who he is), Josh Weinstein, Bill Oakley, Wes Archer and Mike Scully. They were the Tour de Force.

That explains a lot, because I was about to post how Futurama seems to have exactly what's missing in the Simpsons these days.

I was just name dropping some writers. I have a Simpsons book with all the writers in it, bt it's back home in Albury. Did Brad Bird direct the 'Do What You Feel Like' episode?

My fave Simpsons ep was the one where they had to work as a family to retrieve the lunch from a tree. The wolves were funny.

My favorite was the one with the twin towers and homers car got that wheel lock thing on it.

Brad Bird
[7G12] Krusty Gets Busted
[8F05] Like Father, Like Clown (With Jeffrey Lynch)
Those are the only two. Brad Bird had a thing for Krusty. If you listen to the audio commentary of Like Father, Like Clown, the team talks about it extensively. He also animated all of Krusty in that episode, which is why it looks so good.

You actually listen to those audio commentaries? Relying on your wit and intelligence to succeed in life may not work. Honestly, good luck with it all.

Anonymous? Lynx is an amusement, i'm sure everyone is aware of.

Edit: Bwahaha: "The Simpsons - Going Down?" <_<
~DC - March 10, 2006 12:05 PM (GMT)
Try and keep the flame baiting to a minimum Fretz.
Out of curiousity, does anybody know if that Simpsons feature movie is still in development?
Gio - March 10, 2006 02:40 PM (GMT)
Wikipedia to the rescue!
2008 apparently.
Mykle - March 11, 2006 11:16 PM (GMT)
The Simpsons seems to have lost a lot of subtlety - it's resembling South Park nowadays. South Park has always been very in your face about it's social satire, whereas you could watch an episode of the Simpsons and laugh your arse off without realising that it's parodying (word?) about 30 movies and making a comment about the nuclear family. It's a real shame to - the Simpsons is solely responsible for any cultural knowledge I have and makes up about 50% of my lexicon...

I've found the Simpsons have gone really downhill of late, past year or two. I think the quality has decreased, and the relience on gag humour or increasingly bizzar or stupid premises is dragging the whole show down. Sometimes you wonder that maybe they should end it now or with the film before its completley in the toilet.
Death - May 13, 2006 04:38 AM (GMT)
Seasons 4-10 are my personal favourites, so many classics. The newer eps are still worth watching, but they don't have as much substance as the older ones.
Retro - May 27, 2006 12:58 PM (GMT)
I would definitely agree with you guys that the Simpsons is just missing something these days. Yesterday, I watched the episode with the chili cook-off and Homer's quest to find his "soul mate," and the Guatemalan insanity peppers and Johnny Cash as the voice of the space coyote...gosh, that's the greatest cartoon episode of any series I've ever seen in my life. Period.
Now, if only the newer stuff could be as funny and worthy of remembering...
Random Hero - May 29, 2006 08:56 AM (GMT)
the only thing that can redeem the simpsons now is the movie they are apparently working on i think its slated for release in like 2009 or something isnt it??

Your opinions?

Was I the only one who didn't laugh ONCE during the Simpsons movie trailer?
Inquisitor - July 24, 2007 08:20 AM (GMT)
Sorry to go slightly off topic, but same thing's happened with Family Guy. The last two seasons or so absolutely SUCK ANUS. They've completely ran out of ideas. However, the first two or three seasons were absolutely gold.
P.S: Futurama is God.
sarunas007 - July 24, 2007 08:50 AM (GMT)
Well i must say the trailer was not funny at all... For me anyway...
As massive fan of thee Simpson's i hope the movie wont be a disapointment.
What will Happen: ( My guesses )
For the first time the Simpson's will be wearing differnt clothing.
And i think that Maggie will speak
And maybe Bart falls in love ...
Whats your opinions people?
borgster101 - July 24, 2007 09:09 AM (GMT)
I'm a long time Simpsons fan, but I hate the more recent Simpsons episodes, they're just not funny, and unfortantely it seems the movie is along the same lines as the shit recent TV episodes. Spiderpig? Whats so funny about that?! <_<

I must agree. the old eposodes may not look as good but are way funier
Random Hero - July 24, 2007 09:28 AM (GMT)
I heard the hardcore fans won't be happy with the movie and it feels like some of the better newer episodes just all strung together into movie length. :(
borgster101 - July 24, 2007 09:35 AM (GMT)
I'm certainly not getting my hopes up for this movie, I'm expecting it to be crap, who knows I might get suprised, but it's better than hyping it up, only to get disapointed.
sarunas007 - July 24, 2007 09:45 AM (GMT)
The creators of simpsons will probably be disappointed too after the movie launch and all the fans are unhappy.
And i agree borgster, theres no point of 'hyping' the movie up to be disappointed, its better to be amazed while not expecting so.
It doesnt look good ( dont mean the graphics ) as far as im concerned neither its funny. But i hope, and really truly hope the movie will be good. ( just to make borgster suprised :P )
One word to sum up the movie so far; DOH
~Sarunas
