Title: Big Day Out 2006 - 2nd announcement page 6

JJJames7 - October 4, 2005 01:55 PM (GMT)
News is gonna start coming out midnight, so in about 10 minutes! For me to say the bands I want to see is stupid, because they won't come. News is gonna come thick and fast, get on the BDO forums!

bands that have new albums (I'm trying to be realistic) I want to see:

Thrice
Marilyn Manson
Fall Out Boy
Avenged Sevenfold
Story Of The Year
Funeral For A Friend

There are probably more... and what were those rumors about AFI?!!?

JJJames7 - October 4, 2005 03:36 PM (GMT)
CONFIRMED SO FAR:
The White Stripes
Iggy & The Stooges
Franz Ferdinand
Kings of Leon
The Mars Volta
Soulwax
AFI
2 Many DJs
Sleater-Kinney
The Living End
Gerling
Dei Hamo

Pull out your eyeliner: the BIG DAY OUT gets dark in 2006 by welcoming A Fire Inside, better known simply as AFI. The decade-old and counting Californian hardcore boys are what frontman Davey Havok calls a “risky” proposition: hard as hell one minute, infectiously melodic the next. But the risk has paid off – AFI’s bond with their audience is like nothing you’ve ever seen at a rock show. With an epic follow up to 2003’s major label debut “Sing the Sorrow” due in the new year, AFI will sing it and mean it at the BIG DAY OUT this summer.

Fucking breathtaking

[m]averick - October 5, 2005 12:47 AM (GMT)
Wow...I suddenly care about the Big Day Out a whole lot less. The only bands I'd wanna see are Franz, The Mars Volta...and that's it. I doubt I'll go unless some better bands are announced (read: Tool or even RHCP!!!)

EDIT: I just read on BDO forums that The White Stripes are the HEADLINE act? Someone tell me this is a joke. Oh, and I'm no metal fan, but where's the metal? I wanted to go to BDO so I could see a decent metal act and see what the fuss was.

I'm hoping the second announcement is awesome, cos right now, the first announcement is anything but.

BrotherEstapol - October 5, 2005 02:16 AM (GMT)
I'll probably be going, but not to see the White Stripes...

Franz, Mars Volta, AFI and The Living End will be who I'm going to see. ;)

One can only hope for some better bands in the line-up...wsihful thinking, but here's some bands I'd like to be there:
A Perfect Circle
Radiohead(FAT CHANCE!)
The Killers
The Bravery
Bloc Party(probably not since they were just at splendor)
Gyroscope(may actually be possible!)
The Chemical Brothers

Most of those bands are proabably too high-profile to be announced in the 2nd announcment. :(

rampaging_geek - October 5, 2005 06:45 AM (GMT)
Can't wait to see AFI.

JJJames7 - October 5, 2005 07:39 AM (GMT)
Brestapol, most people are saying that the first announcement is to please the masses. I still think there's a second band I'd wanna see on announcement 2. Anyone know when that will be?

EDIT: off topic but isn't there supposed to be a gif of what you are lisening to/playing/watching next to that monkey?

Yeah, but the ftp I was linking to went down ages ago, and I way too lazy to re-host it and change the link! :D

I'd be cool to see Bodyjar and Area 7 again, cause they rocked when I saw them at the Warped Tour. :)

The Stripes are good but they definitely shouldn't be classed as a headline act.

Hell, I'd gladly hand over $100 just to see two of those three bands live. However bands of such calibur certainly would be announced as soon as the tickets were put on sale because they shit over the current line-up. Still, I'll settle for a seperate Radiohead concert next year after their next album is released. ;)

Can't say I'm going to BDO again either. Last year was bad enough with the Beastie Boys headlining and somehow this year's big acts don't look any promising.

If each and every one of these bands made it to the BDO, it would rock. Even moreso if Radiohead (which I deleted because I agree with your 'fat chance' comment) and Tool were announced.

Lazlow - October 5, 2005 06:37 PM (GMT)
I could see Cradle of Filth popping down. They haven't visited our shores since Midian, and with their recent boom in mainstream appeal, it wouldn't be totally out of the question.

Ahh.

You made my brain hurt.

The Warped Tour came to Australia? Why didn't I know? Did the good bands come? What year was this? What month? I hate Brestapol? That last one wasn't a question? What about that last one? Yeah, that last one was.

Anyway I'm seriously doubting any other good bands (good bands = AFI & The Mars Volta) will be coming to the 2006 BDO. I mean, I was reaserching old BDO's and the sheer amound of shitty unknown/crap bands (IMO people...) such as The Spazzys are about to clog this event.

Thought about it more and the possibility of Fall Out Boy coming to the BDO is strong. They haven't promoted their new album on our shores... Same goes for HIM! Unfortunatly My Chemical Romance and Jimmy Eat World are looking slim to coming because I doubt they would want to go from Australia to home to Australia within two months...

Hawthorne Heights, Thrice, Anti-Flag should come too.

[m]averick - October 7, 2005 12:58 PM (GMT)
'04: Muse and Metallica.
'06: White Stripes and AFI.

Yay. Big Day Out gets better each year. No, seriously, we are getting shafted this year.

Metallica were playing their St. Anger bullshit at the BDO though so I don't know how good you could consider that to be. ;)

Last year definitely had a worse line-up in my opinion. Slipknot and SOAD coupled with Beastie Boys as the headline act, strutting around the stage mucking around with basketballs isn't exactly what I would call a good concert. :P

NismoR34 - October 7, 2005 05:00 PM (GMT)
SOAD are awesome live, what are you on DC?

[m]averick - October 8, 2005 12:14 AM (GMT)
SOAD this year would be awesome, as their new album is out and they could play songs like Sad Statue, Old School Hollywood, and BYOB. hell, most of the awesome album.

QUOTE

I don't mind St. Anger. Small doses though. But surely most of their set would've been from their older stuff. But still, Muse and Metallica shit all over anything this year's lineup could possibly produce.

Hell, they could probably play their whole "double" album released this year in a one hour set.

I'm pretty sure at least half Metallica's set was St. Anger [m]av. I didn't go but have a friend who went and he was pretty disappointed they didn't play a lot of their older material.

I was fucking disappointed that Metallic played really loud and had fireworks going off, so we couldn't hear The Flaming Lips properly.

Bodyjar & Area 7> JJJames

This was Warped 02...and for some reason the only other big bands I can remember being there were Pennywise and Guttermouth.
You know, proper (non-80's)punk bands, none of this chemical romance shit.

EDIT: Found the list of artists who were there:
QUOTE
INTERNATIONAL
ALL
GUTTERMOUTH
PENNYWISE
LUCKY 7
MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES
MXPX
NEW FOUND GLORY
THE VANDALS
WILL HAVEN

AUSTRALIAN
AREA 7
BLUELINE MEDIC
SUNK LOTO
TOE TO TOE
BODYJAR
28 DAYS
ESKIMO JOE
ONE DOLLAR SHORT
FOR AMUSEMENT ONLY

I'm pretty sure that was the last Aussie Warped Tour.

Good times. :)

They seriously should consider calling it Emo Day Out these days.

Edit: I've heard rumours of Tool playing, that'd be pretty cool - but I highly doubt it. If memory serves last time they played at a festival was lolllalapaolzaa '94.

Tool are rumoured quite frequently to play Big Day Out as they are a major draw. Don't rule them out just yet, it seems unlikely now that The White Stripes are headlining, but the mail was Tool to headline if the Red Hot Chilli Peppers pulled out. To which my mate said: "Wow! The Peppers were gonna play Big Day Out?" I countered by punching him in the head. Moron.

When APC came a couple of years back Maynard was fucking furious that they got less than an hour on stage (rightly so). I'm pretty sure the band pulled out after that and had a seperate tour of Australia. With that said, I'm pretty sure the whole ordeal would still have a left a bad taste in his mouth for future BDO's. Besides the band couldn't play much material if they were only given an hour, especially if they are planning on a couple of songs going over ten minutes for their new album.

Chilli Peppers wouldn't have been much as a headline act but I would have marked out heavily if The Pixies came as the replacement, which was also rumoured.

BrotherEstapol - October 9, 2005 01:08 PM (GMT)
An aussie band I think may pop up in the second announcment is Spiderbait, since they've got that greatest hits cd that just came out.

Big Day Out, seperate tour, I don't care, just get them out here :P

But yeah, come to think of it, Tool at Big Day Out isn't realy a feasible option. I mean, ever after hearing Salival I've wanted to be there to hear Third Eye and You Lied live, but those songs together are pushing up towards half an hour. In fact, in the bootleg copy I have of Tool's visit to Melbourne there isn't a single song below 7 minutes. Disposition plays for 5.28, but that's part of the Disposition/Reflection/Triad three-for-one.

rampaging_geek - October 10, 2005 01:50 AM (GMT)
Remember, there can be 'big bands' in the 2nd announcement. Slipknot was announced in BDO 05's second announcement. I have no doubt that the next announcement will have some metal. Opeth would be cool, but I doubt that they'd play in BDO somehow...

HamburgerTrain - October 10, 2005 05:30 AM (GMT)
Speaking of the Chili Peppers, back in 2000 (or when the Chili Peppers last played BDO) Keidis stopped Mr. Bungle from playing, because of an on-going fued between him and Mike Patton.

He accused Mike Patton (in the Faith No More days) of ripping him off. In retaliation Mr. Bungle dressed up as the Chili Peppers one night, covered their songs and pretended to do herion on stage etc...Keidis heard this and ever since that incident Mr. Bungle wasn't allowed to play the same Festivals as the Chili Peppers. lol.

I saw them the other night at Coke Live (Thank you eBay), They're a damn nice live act.

But yeah, I'm a bit lukewarm to the the first round of announcements like most people I know.

I would love to see The Mars Volta, but considering the set lenghts, it wouldn't be anywhere close to what a concert from them would be like. The only other acts i would catch would be The Living End, Wolf & Cub, and maybe drop in on Iggy & The Stooges.

From what i can gather from the rumour mill;

Out of the Running
- RHCP are likely not making it, as their new album has been delayed.
- Tool are apparently still recording their new album.

In the running
- NIN (good news for anyone not on the east coast), as apparently in an interview with trent for some american magazine, he said something to the effect of 'we're finishing up our US tour, then going to Europe and Australia for some festivals next year'.
Also, (my friend who was at the melbourne show) said trent told the crowd 'See you early next year' at the end of the show.

- ACDC, they were rumoured and their new album is still due out at the end of the year. (If they are confirmed, IM SO FLIPPIN' THERE.)

- I'd say on the smaller aussie front, Wolfmother and The Butterfly Effect are likely, as they have new albums coming out by December.

Wishful thinking;

- Bloc Party, i cant believe they only did two shows when they came here :(

ps. does anyone know the date of the second round announcements?
