Title: Arrested Development
Description: ...too good for television.

After falling in love with the show in its irregular 11:00pm timeslot I purchased the entire DVD collection for my birthday. This show is brilliant, it goes further than any comedy before it, and delivers cleverly timed humour intertwined with real-life events. It has won 13 awards, has a religous fanbase, and has legends like Ron Howard and Michael Hurwitz behind the scenes.
And yet despite its amazing success and flattering reviews, FOX has pulled the plug. Delivering the final blow when they aired the final four episodes back-to-back opposite the Olympics opening ceremony. To make matters worse, due to the unknown future of the show running plot lines and questions were all tied up (superbly) in the final episode, now whilst it may ease the devoted audience in the short term, companies such as Showtime and ABC have expressed interest in reviving the show which is both a relief and a nightmare, as the show will basically have to start again considering all the loose ends have essentially been tied up, although with the sheer scale of this comedy, I would not put it beyond them to achieve utter success.

Yeah my mate bought a DVD set of this(I think it was just the 1st season), and I watched the first few episodes...it's some pretty funny shit. :P

Arrested Development is easily the best comedy since Seinfeld. I purchased the Season One boxset quite a while ago when JB first had it on sale for $20. Considering there was something like twenty-two episodes that equates to around ninety cents an episode. It's amazing that Channel Seven haven't tried it, at least briefly, on a primetime slot.
The Season Two DVD boxset is scheduled for March 15th and Fox has already finished off airing the thirteen episodes of Season Three. I've downloaded around half of these and have to say that the writers pulled out all the stops to make sure the show finished up on Fox with a bang. Obviously they realised they weren't going to attract any more fans, once they only managed to attract a pitiful four million for a double episode in the US, thus made the episodes more wacky then ever.
I can understand why Fox pulled the plug though because they really did give it a decent go and the stupid viewing public failed to catch on. Apparently the DVD sales are through the roof though and it's regarded as a critical darling to other networks so I'm pretty sure someone like Showtime will pick it up.

I credit its failure mostly to FOX's handling of the comdey gem. AD should be viewed several episodes at a time to for greatest enjoyent, this is due to the fact that it utilises a running storyline unlike other comedies where each episode is independant of one another. To make the show successful, it means advertising the show so that viewers are aware of when it is on, however FOX failed miserably at this even to the point where some devoted fans were caught of gaurd when the finale was aired opposite the olympics.

I've watched a few episodes here and there, and found it interesting but due to timing I haven't really had a chance to catch the series and what I did see was mid episode, mid season, so I had little understanding of the back stories.
But from all the praise I've read it's something that I look forward to watching.

They tried almost everything, man. I recall them airing double episodes and repeats well before deciding to pull the plug. I admit that Fox are very trigger-happy when it comes to their programming but they aren't at fault in this instance. Blame the stupid viewing public who fail to grasp the show's delighfully quirky humour.

Yeah, it's fecking awesome. I just wish that they'd put it on tv a little more. I might have to make the sacrifice and get the dvd's. I just need a good excuse (apparently I'm meant to be saving or something :| )

After being capped, and thus deprived of my US episodes of all my favourite shows, I have reverted back to watching Arrested Development... and it has me rapt once again.
Please, I urge you to do yourself a favour and get yours hands on this series. It is truly the pinnacle of sitcoms bar none, which also seemed to be its Achilles heal. Despite adoring reviews and numerous awards, the show was canceled.
The boxset's are dirt cheap, if you find yourself with some spare time, fill it with twenty minute installments of Arrested Development, you wont regret it.

It seems like much longer, but the final season was released on DVD here in Australia in December of last year, so it should be available.
***MINOR SPOILER FOR HEROES + ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT***
Arrested Development predicts Heroes! There are usually subtle jokes made at other television shows (An example being a character auditioning for the role of Dr House) and the episode I just watched, GOB buys a sword, and Michael remarks, "You look like you're hunting dragons in the future" which closely resembles Hiro's quest from Heroes. At first I laughed at the mockery it made of Heroes, until I realised the show wasn't around back then - thats how good this show is, it parodies events which have yet to even occur!!
WATCH IT PEOPLE!
