Title: 'Platinum'
Description: Generic question

Can someone explain what Platinum is on PS2 game descriptions - they appear cheaper than the 'real' version - but are they the same / lesser quality??

A Platinum game is no different to any other non-platinum version, its the same game only cheaper cos it has sold more than 500,000 copies (gotta check on that number, its probably decreased).
So for example, MGS2:SoL was released and sold 500,000 copies, the publisher will see that the game is successful and has gone 'Platinum' so they release it again with a different cover (Platinum colored) and sell it for a cheaper price. Just like the Classic series on XBox.
Edit: If you're thinking of buying a Platinum game go ahead, its cheaper. I have heaps of Platinum games!

DZ is right, it's cheaper but it other than the price and the cover it is identical to the original release. It's not a rip-off of the game, and is just as "real" as the original.
