Title: Devil May Cry 3
Description: includes screens

/backslash - May 3, 2004 02:49 AM (GMT)
Hooray! Finally Devil May Cry 3 will soon be upon us :) Hopefully much better than the 2nd one

Details from the mag:

QUOTE
"- The game is a prequel.
- The series producer Tsuyoshi Tanaka wants to return to the visual style of the first game.
- Many of the games stylish action features will not be in the E3 demo to avoid spoiling the surprise.
- The core of gameplay in DMC3 revolves around a new feature called the "style system". You will be able to chose a specific style at the beginning. Gunslinger, Swordmaster, Trickster, and Royal Guard are the four styles revealed thus far. As you progress through the game, you can distribute points into categories related to the style you are using. Each style has its advantages and disadvantages. How Dantes Demon powers will work is still a secret, but he gradually remembers powers as you progress through the game.
- DMC3 is currently planned to last about as long as the first game and it will be just about as puzzle focused.
- Tanaka admits that DMC2s large open level design meant that most players could use guns for the entire game. In DMC3, the levels have been designed to test long range and melee fighting skills equally.
- DMC3 has a brand new 3D engine
- This allows for new special effects. For example, an enemy might form from sand, spew sand when hit, and return to sand when you kill it.
- The environments are much more destructable.
- Shadows and lighting are much more realistic
- Weather effects
- DMC3 will be mission based (like the others), but will feature intro movies to each mission and completetion movies that move the storyline along.
- Some missions have no bosses, and some have multiple bosses.
- A new mysterious female character whos involvement is unknown at the moment."

I don't want to get excited about this but I will not be able to help myself. Any idea of a release date or is this just a teaser for now?

That picture with a blue DT bar with one yellow symbol. Probably just the blue DT bar being used, but it may have something to do with mixing styles or weapons. Having multiple fighting styles to choose from could really open up the replay value, plus it just sounds like a lot of fun. Hopefully the developers won't botch this one up.

CLL - May 3, 2004 03:38 AM (GMT)
It says it "will be ready to rock this fall" on scan 7. So that would be around Sep-Nov for us.

Sweating Bullets - May 3, 2004 05:04 AM (GMT)
Wow!! How unreal does that look?!?!

Thanks heaps for those /backslash!! You are *the* man!!

MrRae - May 3, 2004 05:06 AM (GMT)
Looks very nice, but what's with his outfit? :P Put on a shirt dude

This makes me want to get back into the first one too, maybe beat on a harder difficulty than easy :P

oVerCaffeinated - May 3, 2004 07:06 AM (GMT)
First game Producers: Shinji Mikami and director Hideki Kamiya
Second game Producer: Tsuyoshi Tanaka
Third game Producer: Tsuyoshi Tanaka

You can guess how this ones gonna turn out, average, unless some magical miracle happens.

Aww thats crap!

thebigm - May 3, 2004 07:40 AM (GMT)
Has promise, although I hope Shinji Mikami will have some input on it.

Lordage - May 3, 2004 08:39 AM (GMT)
Wow, that looks and sounds amazing.
I was a huge fan of the first game, although the second only dissapointed me. :( Hopefully this installation will better things.

DJ-Civic - May 3, 2004 01:35 PM (GMT)
I have yet to play the 1st one.

This one sounds cool, and that Dante render looks damn cool too.

I bought the first one for $10 at Harvey Norman. I've still yet to finish it though :ph43r:

Although the 2nd one was pretty crap and that the 2nd producer is being used again, things could only improve right? He's listened to all the negative feedback, so hopefully he'll use this to an advantage to overcome everyone's skeptical thoughts

tinklez - May 4, 2004 07:30 AM (GMT)
Hey, hey /slashy -- good to see you around mate! ;)

I was pretty much burned by the craptacular 2nd game, and the fact that it's the same producer at the helm, I can't say I'm overly excited about this prequel. Get it back to Kamiya, dagnamit!

Young Dante sure does look pretty cool though.

Hey, don't bag the lack of shirt. It makes him look like a Metal legend. Which is very cool. B) :P

After reading some lacklustre reviews for DMC2 I didn't bother with it. Hopefully this game fares better.

You lucky mofo! I'd snap it up for $10 for sure. I've heard the game got a pretty shitty PAL convertion. Is that true?

Yes, an annoying letterbox and slower framerate. I had a choice whether I could get the NTSC version for $27, or this one for $10. I went with the PAL. Special mention goes to sidochrome for buying it for me and sending it all the way from Sydney :D

I did pay him of course.... :ph43r:

True, but considering that he was trusted to continue in the footsteps of already incredible positive feedback after the making of the first, yet he somehow botched the making of Devil May Cry 2, I'm not inclined to believe success will be so simple. I guess he earnt a chance to correct past sins.

Those screenshots look a little low-poly...

Comrade Natrak - May 5, 2004 12:21 PM (GMT)
True, but I find screens often do look worse than what the game does in action. A lot of the Screens of Silent Hill 3 I've seen are less than spectacular, yet it looks great when playing it.

Don't forget that these are just scans from a magazine too. Depending on the type of scanner, it can make anything look bad when it's actually a high res screenshot. Also, take into account that the game isn't even close to finishing, so there'll be a polish & shine before they release the final product

Yeah, I figured as much. It's just not an excellent sign considering the expectations people are going to have of this game... :(

Übermensch - May 7, 2004 11:37 AM (GMT)
Maybe this might rekindle the fire between the PS2 and myself...

StElLaR - May 9, 2004 10:01 AM (GMT)
hmmm....played and loved the first one. Also, since the second one is only 35 dollar atm, im thinkin about picking that up aswell

48MB trailer, wont be posting any info as I wont be able to watch it for a while.

DJ-Civic - May 14, 2004 01:33 PM (GMT)
Just saw the trailer and wow! Looks pretty damn good! :D
How good does the juggling look? And that new spinning attack.... :o

Machiavelli - May 15, 2004 02:06 AM (GMT)
Being able to go into different moves mid-combo is a good thing to see, brings back good memories of DMC.

That fight w/ Vergil, I think i had a joygasm. :P

[DZ] - June 15, 2004 04:53 AM (GMT)
DMC2 was pretty cheap. It had 2 discs with the same game!! :| The Diesel wear was the only good thing... also, the one liners were damn sexy! "Here's your crown." BAM!! :P

sonic - June 23, 2004 08:38 PM (GMT)
wow nice pics might get it when it comes

DJ-Civic - June 24, 2004 01:51 PM (GMT)
I rented DMC 1 today, and damn it's fun! It's a bit hard ont he fingers with all the combos you can pull off. :D
Right now I just beat that Lion/Shadow boss, which was cool. I've also seen some similarities between this game and Viewtiful Joe. Like after finishing a mission, you can continue or power up.

sonic - June 24, 2004 03:48 PM (GMT)
yeah its alright i guess
i like both of them

Neo Sephiroth - November 19, 2004 05:27 AM (GMT)
DMC3 looks great, anyone seen the opening two cinema's? (the FMV and the opening cutscene) its bloody great, and Dante is back to his cheery self after the broody DMC2 (I realize DMC3 is a prequel but I'm just comparing to the last game).

Yeah the fight with Virgil was awesome Mach, but I prefered the fight with that flying guy at the Coloseum, it felt so epic.

[DZ] - November 19, 2004 11:56 PM (GMT)
I saw some screens the other day on GS. Dante is freakin' shirtless! Hooray!

Neo Sephiroth - November 21, 2004 03:21 AM (GMT)
heh its about time too eh? :D

eggman - December 7, 2004 04:50 AM (GMT)
Even though I really dislike DMC2 I can't help but wet myself with excitement at a prospect of a third installment, hopefully to right all the wrong's that Tanaka made with the second game and return the series to the game to the pinnacle in the action genre which the DMC series so rightly deserves. This game looks absolutely gorgeous and I am hoping that they bring back the elemental powers to your weapons from the original masterpiece. That was one of my biggest gripes I had with the second game (plus it just wasn't very fun to play :( ).

DMC 3 is coming out in Japan on February 17, America a month later and us sometime in late March/early April. I wan't an awesome DMC game so bad Dante rocks

[DZ] - December 7, 2004 05:59 AM (GMT)
Yes, and this time, I only want ONE DVD please!

Comrade Natrak - February 28, 2005 10:10 AM (GMT)
I just bought DMC on Saturday, Ex-rental. And after playing an hour's worth already my anticipation for DMC3 has soared. I really can't wait for its arrival.

DJ-Civic - February 28, 2005 01:18 PM (GMT)
Yeah, and from what I've read, Ninja Gaiden has nothing on this game's difficulty. :nooo:
I've played the original, and damn did it give me a challenge. I can only imagine what #3 is going to be like. Should be good.

[DZ] - March 1, 2005 01:24 AM (GMT)
Yeah the DMC games have a steep learning curve, I took me a fair bit of time to beat the last boss in DMC2. The "trinity" boss you know? With all the past bosses in it? Freaky!! :o

I've played an import of DMC the other day. You start off in this apartment and pracice woopin' devil ass with the blade and pistols. It was great fun, and Dante was shirtless... :P Definitely getting this game!!

Comrade Natrak - March 1, 2005 10:24 AM (GMT)
I just got Ifrit, beat the giant bird (which I'm guessing will not be the first time I face it) and made my way through the labrynth.

I am absolutely loving Devil May Cry and am really pleased with my purchase (Such an awesome game for $25 :D ). The boss fights are really enjoyable, that final fight with the Spider boss was great and the fight with the giant bird was even better. There's nothing like classic bosses with attack patterns in my mind, it's just such a fun way to approach boss battles.

Loach - March 1, 2005 10:58 AM (GMT)
Did anyone play through DMC1 on the hardest setting? Maybe I'm just crap, but I couldn't get past the Lion on that setting!

Its not that punishing. I completed it in a couple of days. Or maybe I'm just too good? :P
Hopefully DMC3 is much, much more challenging, and long.
